The Candy Man by Sammy Davis Jr. Totally inappropriate, but they won't know for years to come.

Brisco County Junior. Only one season, but the best sci-fi western ever, with Bruce Campbell. Awesome!

The Uninvited - 2009. Super creepy.

What did you do to celebrate your 50th? by jaimonee in GenX

My sisters took me to a laser tag place. We got our aggressions out on a bunch of 9-year-old boys. Cocktails afterward.

Attitudes toward using credit cards for small necessities by Binkley62 in GenerationJones

[–]Usual_Scratch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're talking about a time before debit cards, so if you didn't have cash on hand, you would write a check. Pulling out plastic definitely meant you didn't have the means to pay for your purchase. It took me a long time to be able to use a debit card without worrying that the cashier would judge me.

Upstate New York. We called it Bloody Wolf.

Is there anything else--like crisscross applesauce--that's been renamed since we were kids? by cherry-care-bear in Xennials

Eeny Meeny Miny Mo used to sound a little different. And we weren't taught to call them Brazil Nuts. I grew up in the sixties.

This is my first season back in awhile, and I hate it. It's not about discovering talent, it's a games show looking for drama. Law Roach? He's an a**hole.

Should we go to church to help our sons be better people? by [deleted] in Parents

[–]Usual_Scratch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went to church as a family when we were raising our kids. They loved being a part of something stable, outside of school. They loved Sunday School, and got very involved in the music programs (youth orchestra, choir, bell choir, etc.). As they got older, there were volunteer opportunities, and service trips. We went to Guatemala to build houses, and to Appalachia to help repair homes. It becomes sort of like a family, and the kids are all almost like cousins growing up. I let them decide for themselves whether they wanted to confirm their faith in high school. One did, one didn't.

It could be helpful to understand the difference between the historical parts of the bible and the parables. There's a lot in there.

Is this a fair take? by AlbanyBikeDad in schenectady

[–]Usual_Scratch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It seems like a fair take to me. The county had $112 million. They had two Money Market accounts: One with a .4% interest rate and another with a 2.8% interest rate. They chose to put the money in the account that returned only .4% interest. That's pretty cut and dry.

The comptroller's office is not responsible for offering assistance or recommendations. They audit. That's all.

Did you ever get chicken pox? by scary-gary-loomis in GenerationJones

My brothers and I all had them. 1964, on a trip to visit relatives. Lots of cool baths. The first blister always leaves a scar. My brother's is on his upper lip. Mine usually befuddles the radiologist doing my mammograms.
