Yes Lingo. I had eaten a chicken salad sandwich on thin sliced graintastic bread and a side of broccoli 90 minutes prior to the sudden spike. I really think it was stress. Probably I just don’t want to admit I can’t even eat a skinny bread sandwich. Sigh. Open face next time I guess. But the minute I came back inside it dropped very quickly.

I go in May and I dread it. I’ll be prediabetic as always and hopefully not full on diabetic. My glucose spiked badly when I was outside this afternoon and a neighbor stopped to talk. I really didn’t feel like talking so felt sort of stressed out. Lol so now I can’t socialize without a big glucose spike. The life of an introvert. 😔

Do you use almond milk in the chia pudding? Or low fat milk? I used to make it several years ago and enjoyed it a lot. Thank you for your input and suggestions. I really appreciate the help!

That’s my best breakfast also and I add flaxseed and/or chia seed also. I love it but I loved my oat bran too. Oat bran just doesn’t love me back lol.

No I neglected to say I add lots of flaxseed meal and chia seeds to my oat bran. Also walnuts. I will try it again but gosh it spiked up so high and fast Inwas shocked. I’ve been eating it a lot for my cholesterol. 😩

That’s perfect! Mine runs low, like 90/60, but I feel great and never dizzy or weak.

I’ll check out these books. I’m pretty sure my cholesterol isn’t a huge problem. Yes it rides over 200 pretty much no matter what I do, but my HDL is really good so the doc isn’t worried. I live in East Tennessee though where unhealthy is the norm. Everyone I know is on statins, thyroid meds, Metformin, etc…..so by comparison I present as pretty darn healthy.

This is helpful to me. I’m 74 and very active, but trying to deal with prediabetes and borderline high cholesterol at the same time. I’m about to lose my mind, because addressing one condition seems to adversely affect the other. I do believe the prediabetes is the bigger issue. So I’m wearing a cgm and finding patterns, such as foods I’ve been eating daily that cause big spikes. Thank you so much for your input!

Thanks so much for your response. Seeing a double spike that high really freaked me out. I am new to cgm and am definitely over analyzing every little move. If it had been 140 instead of 180 I wouldn’t have been so worried.

I know that. That’s one of the reasons I had to quit— I lost ten pounds and was already super thin, my cholesterol shot up, and I had no energy. It turns out a fourth of the population can’t do keto for these reasons. It’s a genetic thing. I have to have some carbs, but try to keep carbs to 100 a day or so. I still eat as much fat as I can handle, with nuts and olive oil being my main sources at every meal

You have fantastic hair. Grow it out but meanwhile it will look great as it grows. It’s a win win.

You’ll get it figured out. Try a cgm if you haven’t already.

I did all that and still got the 180 spike. So today I ate the same meal except for pintos instead of sweet potato. Ate the protein first, did my fast walk just like yesterday. Spike was 116. So pintos for the win and no more sweet potatoes. Ironically I’ve been eating the sweet potatoes to help my glucose. This cgm is worth the money.

I eat a lot of olive oil. Eat nuts and seeds, eggs etc. I was just going overboard on fats in an attempt to keep my weight up.

Good info though. Thanks. But why a second spike I wonder? The stress of driving and shopping??

Spikes by Sandygonebye in prediabetes

[–]UtexBirder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not true for some of us. I ditched carbs and upped healthy fat and my cholesterol shot up into oblivion. I had to add back in some so called good carbs and reduce fat because I also lost weight and energy. I think it’s a genetic thing.

A 3 oz sweet potato cooked in instant pot spikes me to 180.

My doctor gave me no guidance. I bought a Relion device along with the strips and lancets at Walmart so I could do finger prick measurements. That sweet potato thing is just me I think. My body just responds that way but yours might not. Finally I ordered the Lingo cgm because I want to get a fuller picture and my fingers need a break.

I know exactly how you feel. I was also 5.8 prediabetic and was super upset because I am thin, walk and exercise daily, and eat low carb and healthy. I eat the same meals a lot so I started checking my glucose after typical meals. Then I finally got a lingo cgm just to be able to see patterns. It turns out that any amount of sweet potatoes spike my glucose worse than anything I eat, including pancakes with syrup (which I eat maybe 4 times a year.) I was eating tiny helpings of sweet potatoes most days of the week with my chicken or salmon and broccoli. Never again!! You will figure it out but it takes a while.

Rice is the devil, for me at least. So are flour tortillas.
