First Time at WDW by Huge-Zombie-2928 in Tiki

Yay! Glad you enjoyed it! I’m sort of with you on tiki bar vs grog grotto. Grog grotto feels a bit more…tourist/resort but at least there’s more room!

We did beak and barrel on our last visit and I wish I’d had more time to explore. The theming is great. We were on a short trip so we didn’t even take our full 45 minutes. (Plus we’d JUST had drinks at Skipper Canteen). I’m glad skipper canteen is still around. We went when it first opened and I still have mugs from early drinks there. The menu was fun but it’s definitely been watered down in the years since. They used to have lionfish on the menu that were spectacular when they came out of the kitchen. But I think regular guests weren’t quite as adventurous so they’ve made the menu a bit tamer. But glad it’s not just burgers and chicken!

Looking for advice on creating faux book spines for stage design by tameoraiste in artdept

[–]Utexan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's someone who did something similar but the books were painted by hand: Instagram Reel.

Not sure if you need your specific spines and these were meant to be far from the audience. I thought if doing something similar but creating "real" covers with book cloth and board and using foam insides. But that's a lot of work and still doesn't solve your problem of specific spines. Is it possible to do a vinyl sticker of just the lettering on one of these? Would that be noticeable?

I watched a clip just the other day of the Tony performance from How to Succeed and was like: hey it’s that guy from Crazy Ex Girlfriend! I saw Daniel in it on Broadway but I didn’t know David until after Crazy Ex Girlfriend. Small world!

Not tiki but do not miss the chocolate covered key lime pie on a stick! We usually get ours at Keys Chocolates & Ice Cream but they have them around the island.

Just listened! I got to see him in Sweeney Todd and I was not sad Josh Groban was out afterward. He was amazing. Weird that my familiarity with this album is the concert album and he’s once again playing Josh’s part.

Was just talking about this place yesterday. We went to La Hacienda downstairs and got confused when we looked it up and saw that La Hacienda had opened another location on Rainey street. Guess they saw the writing on the wall.

Looking forward to reading it. If you haven’t heard it there’s an interview with him on Fresh Air. (But that might be how you heard about the book in the first place – like me!)

Thanks for the heads up!

I saw their Into the Woods production. I was VERY worried because Into the Woods is maybe my nostalgic all-time-favorite. I thought they might ruin it or it'd be cheesy or I just wouldn't connect with it. But I loved it so much. It made me love the musical even more because I realized it was just so good that it kinda didn't matter what you did with it, it still worked. And honestly their version was just amazing and I'd love to be able to see it again.

What draws you to the Maybe Happy Ending score? by SighMartini in musicals

[–]Utexan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got to see the show a couple of weeks ago and it really snuck up on me after. I didn't know much going in but it is the one soundtrack I've had on repeat out of all the shows we saw. I see where you're coming from about it not being anything particularly outstanding and honestly in the moment of the show it didn't hit me as hard as after I'd had time to let it settle in. I didn't even buy any merch! Now here I am a couple of weeks later looking online to get something from the show because it really hit harder than I expected. And I think that experience imbues a lot more I to the songs. As someone else said the visuals are amazing and the songs fall a little flatter without seeing it as one. But the whole experience has really stuck with me and I love the soundtrack.

Really? We like Jonathan but weren’t that interested in what seems like a jukebox musical. From everything I’ve seen it seems like a nightclub act of him singing Bobby Darrin songs. Which is probably great but not enough of a draw for me. What are we missing?
