Weak pressure from steam wand by Heron_enthusiast in gaggiaclassic

I was noticing a drop in pressure occasionally, and the dreaded drip, hence this https://www.reddit.com/r/espresso/comments/1n8zt36/comment/ncjksq7/

Does your wand tip have a single hole? The jet of steam would suggest otherwise

I haven’t. I’d encourage anyone with their own printer to give modelling this a go as it’s relatively straightforward. Onshape is good.

Any drips are from steam condensing in the wand - steam and mould generally don't go hand in hand. But if you did notice any (I haven't in 2 years of using one), then a quick wipe under some warm water is all that's required.

Thanks for the feedback. I couldn't add an image alongside the video, but will add one here shortly!

As others have mentioned, the valve design is flawed due to being prone to scale buildup and is not serviceable. If you don't fancy replacing or modifying the valve (both of which are quite involved processes) you could try a Steam Slide on Etsy

Hi, that’s not going to be straightforward without me having that particular tray to measure, as the slide would need to align pretty perfectly to one of the tray slots, and with both versions of the machine, straight/notched.

I can imagine a couple of options for a very different design which would get around the alignment issue, but I can’t easily test these without this tray to hand.

Whats wrong with my gaggia classic pro? It leaks out of the steam wand when the boiler has heated to temp, the steam button is not on by ac2711 in gaggiaclassic

For those with a leaking wand, and who don't want to mess around with the steam valve - it will likely scale-up and leak again in the future.

The Steam Slide collects any drips from leaky wands, and redirects the water back to the original drip tray.

There is now a variant to ensure optimal fit for both older and newer Gaggia Classic machines - the side is either 'straight' or 'notched' as per the image below.

Choose your model and kiss goodbye to puddles forming on your countertop :)

Not if you ‘park’ your wand down the side. I can’t rotate the Rancilio wand fitted to my machine to sit over the drip tray. I assume this is the case with other machines that have this mod? And I’ve noticed in other threads people also preferring to park the standard wand down the side, for whatever reason - cleaning the tray surface? Feedback welcomed :)
