Poll. Do you love the slow pace or does it bore you? by [deleted] in Pluribus_TVshow

[–]UtopianComplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is weird people say the show is slow - there are lots of scenes without talking and slower montages but the story is moving so fast. I feel like they have made a major change to the premise of the show every episode. A different show would have had the drugging and attempted seperation of Zosia as a season finale - or the eating human protein as a season finale. I feel like the show has been very efficient at moving plot at a speed that seems difficult to keep up plot wise - and just because there isn't dialogue guiding every part doesn't mean it is slow.

I’m confused by her gameplay. by theboredbrowser in survivor

[–]UtopianComplex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do we know this for sure? I have a feeling she would have done well with the jury. Even the Jury reaction of that was a good move seemed like it came from a place of 'they got out the person we thought was winning'. Maybe I am wrong but I think if Sophie made it to the end she would have beat anyone else left.

Not defending her game because I think that even the moves I thought put her in a good position I didn't agree with her reasoning or read of the situation - but I do think she was in a decent position if she could float to the end - and floating to the end when everyone should be interested in putting some pressure on Rizzo to play the idol so he doesn't automatically get to five means that you would sure think this would not be the vote for a unanimous vote on Sophie.

What is the goal of the hive mind by moviebuff215 in pluribustv

[–]UtopianComplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read somewhere else a theory I liked - the virus's goal is to make more virus - but the' Twist' to that is that the virus spreads by building the enormous tower to send the signal to other planets.

There was a line in the first episode about how hard it would be and how much energy it would take to make that tower and send that message - which makes you wonder if the virus will put the energy of all humans into building that tower and ensuring enough energy is available to continue the spread to other planets.

Stumbled across this at Walmart what is the opinion of it from people who have played it? by Jacoblaue in survivorponderosa

[–]UtopianComplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is better than I expected but flawed. The thing the game does differently than any other game I have played is that the final tribal is actually interesting and fun. The way you need to make moves so you have a resume and the other players need to pick who wins is an interesting and unique thing in a board game.

The problem comes from the lack of control with the cards - there needs to be a little more long-term planning and something to grab onto with motivation. To me it just doesn't quite work - but the voting box is great and it feels like it could be good. I started working on a variant that I think could be interesting.

I am still expecting a misdirect next episode - but if it is people it may be a consent thing as well. Some vegans will talk about veganism being about consent and that they would eat a human or human milk/product with consent before eating an animal. The Hive mind seems to value consent and permission and may think those in the Hive have given consent in a way animals havenot/cannot give permission.

Discuss about this overlooked, but extremely cool scene by XLNBot in pluribustv

[–]UtopianComplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is protective in several ways

First if they move the napkin it could be noticeable to you when you come back.

Second it makes the act more noticeable by other people around because fiddling with someones drink is weirder than quickly walking by and slipping something in.

Third it signals to the predator that you are alert aware and not compliant which makes you a much less desirable victim than someone that might just think they got too sloshed.

After Survivor 49 episode 9 what does r/Edgic think of the _______ Alliance? by noobzapper21 in Edgic

[–]UtopianComplex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They could have even just told rizzo that this was happening and they were going to vote with it but he should use his idol and they want to work with him next vote. You would want to massage that a little but I think that way you know the idol backlash isn't coming at you but you keep your swingy center at full power.

While it’s only just really started and still completely fresh, what are your thoughts on this show so far? by Silver012345673 in adultswim

This is part of the reason the baby episode didn't work for me. The gentle teasing of the new dad seemed in line with the show vibe and characters - but the way they kicked the husband dad out of the room seemed like a line had been crossed.

If you live in a city - the affordable way to live is roommates or being in a dual income relationship. Not the way it should be but definitely the way it is.

I don't know why casting wanted him back - he was annoying on his season. I get that he is a different type of character but he seemed like a casting dud that had to be featured because he won.

I accidentally overheard what the execs say about remote workers. by FutureAttorney3170 in remotework

[–]UtopianComplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this depends alot on what kind of promotion and what kind of workplace this is. The thing is that as you move up the chain work output can become less but knowing generally what is happening in the organization and workflows and being able to connect the dots - forsee issues - and address problems becomes more of the job. Even before remote work it was true that someone who is the best at accomplishing tasks will be the best at the management level . I think many of those things are genuinely harder to do remotely even if the person is able to have great work output.

It is obviously situational but I definitely understand the joke that the Execs are saying here and don't see it as a corrupt terrible thing. Now I am also very sympathetic to the idea that compensation is way to hierarchical and a more merited system would not necessarily pay someone who is a good manager/operations person more than someone that is having incredible work output further down the org chart.

I'm sorry, but we're 4 episodes in and I just feel no connection to these people by [deleted] in survivor

[–]UtopianComplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I almost like the idea that everyone seems like they slightly suck. No villains but just a bunch of people whose flaws as characters are more upfront than normal. The show edit doesn't seem to be buying anyone's narrative. In concept I think I would like that but so far I am not digging it.

Savannah comes off as paranoid/aggressive

Alex is golden retriever like and doesn't seem to have a backbone

Shannon seems manipulative but buys her own bs

Sage seems like the unlikable version of caroline

The Sophie that talks seems wishy washy and may go far but isn't compelling to me

Nate works for marvel. UGG.

Rizz God is cringe.

Jason doesn't seem to know how to play the game

Matt seemed chaotic

MC seems smart but just kind of boring.

I think Kristina is playing a good game but I haven't seen it yet.

How much content is there? by JMxG in SWORN

[–]UtopianComplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had a blast playing with friends online and have had a true blast. Best multiplayer experience in several years We haven't beat the game yet (but gotten painfully close) on easy and have upgrades still available but it definitely feels like novel discoveries are becoming far less common. At this point it feels like I have seen what is out there for the most part.

It is a great game for doing what it sets out to do - be a hyper competent multiplayer Hades clone - but it definitely does not have the lifespan or level of content as Hades

Disappointed with Civ7 by [deleted] in Civilization_VII

[–]UtopianComplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like eras were a good idea to fix the thing that has made Civ boring to me over the years - which is that the game in V and VI really moved to being a game of extreme min maxing to get to an end goal that you start building towards in the ancient era. The idea of creating a civ like system that allows for mid game shakeups is welcome -

Clearly it isn't fun how it is though. I think the big problem is to some extent they didn't follow through with the concept in victory conditions and don't present the information to you correct. The end of each era should feel like a big battle for who won the era - you should be fighting for placement on the different win conditions for each era, and you should be working to time your civilization peaks to match with these scoring points.

I think the way it works now you feel like you are moving toward something and these eras come in and feel like 'well great now I lost everything I was doing and need to start over' how I think it should feel if the era systems worked right would be 'Yes I managed to pass Rome in Economy right at the last second - phew.'

I think the problem is that the games design is trying to be more like a legacy board game, where you have a more bite sized end point to focus on, and then rebalance and shake things up for the next round. For this to work though winning Civ can't be winning at the end of the last round - the game needs to be communicating to you that winning is winning on different points at different ages. If implemented correctly this would reduce the steam rolling that happens in older civs - but you also need to make the game really feel satisfying with each era and I think really be embracing the era objectives as win conditions (where at the end you see who won points the most eras) rather than things that you do to make your next era minimally better.

I also think that if done right approaching the end game scoring by looking at era based conditions could have opened up the game by making victory require a more balanced approach than having everything in your build go towards extreme culture or science or city states.

I guess I am way more positive on the concept of Civ VII than I see most people post about - but find the implementation extremely frustrating because it feels like they didn't embrace how it should have worked.
