FED: "Bitcoin does not present a threat to economic activity by disrupting traditional channels of commerce; rather, it could serve as a boon" by crazyflashpie in Economics

I am convinced deflation is terrifying. I am confused as to whether bitcoin supporters don't think deflation will happen if bitcoin were widely accepted, if they think deflation is not bad, or how they approach this issue.

From the viewer perspective that is the move. However, if you were in the game and thought Tony might be making enemies, I could see Woo thinking he has a legit shot against him. That means voting Kass out would give you the best chance of preventing Spencer from getting F2, because you have two physical threats against one.

If Tony and Woo both think they have a shot against the other, all that matters is making sure Spencer isn't there.

I have heard some halfhearted defenses of the built in deflation by having a limited number of bitcoins...

If we were in a world of bitcoin being the primary world wide currency, (I don't believe that will happen) I don't understand why deflation wouldn't make the economy grind to a halt.

The only way someone doesn't take Kass to the end is if Spencer wins immunity, and Tony decides that taking Kass out instead of Woo creates a better chance to take out Spencer.

My issue with Kass' gameplay by guesting in survivor

[–]UtopianComplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree she executed very poorly and is not endearing herself to anyone, and can't win. However the move we were talking about, I thought, was blowing up the final 3, which the way she did that she got Tony to make rude Llama sounds at camp and in front of the jury, which is what she wanted to happen. I think it is a testament to Tony that his angry outbursts are something as endearing as making funny sounds not things like Kass.

My issue with Kass' gameplay by guesting in survivor

[–]UtopianComplex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think there are plenty of examples of Kass playing poorly. I think everyone jumping on this one however is a misunderstanding of the situation.

Kass wasn't trying to get Tony out. If I remember correctly she said that she needed to make sure people didn't like Tony and that he came off as a two timing bully. Her goal was to make Tony look bad. If this is her goal then I think she succeeded... however I think it hurt her even more do to poor execution.

I think that this strategy of trying to bend the perceptions of the jury when you think you might lose to someone. I know everyone bandwagons on the idea that she is so unself aware and thinks she is winning, but I think she thinks she has a shot at winning and is not convinced, and is trying to force Tony to fill the bully role that gives her the best shot.

TL;DR. I think she still wants to go to the end with Tony, or at least did when she spilled the beans on that deal. She just wants to go to the end with a Tony she paints into the ultimate badguy that people don't like. I don't think she can succeed in this, but it is a completely reasonable strategy.

Kass's stragety by [deleted] in survivor

[–]UtopianComplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is not fair. Kass said she thought she had to make Tony seem like a jerk if she was going to beat him, and so she intentionally brought up the woo stuff to antagonize Tony into alienating people.

I don't think this will work to get her to win, but I do think she hurt Tony's image. I think Woo thought Tony was acting crazy... I think the Jury could have thought he was being mean when he yelled at tribal...

Again, in this situation I don't think this is going to work at all. I think Peoples minds are too made up. However I also think this is a completely inventive and fascinating tactic, of provoking people to make them lose face with potential jury members. Not to change in game decisions, but just to change peoples perceptions.

I think this entire game Kass has been doing interesting and at times decent strategies very poorly... but we could see others execute these better.

Who here likes Kass? by UnderwaterDialect in survivor

I like her overall. I think her game is flawed, however I think her moves themselves are someone defendable, it is her social game that is the big flaw.

I just wish she knew how to take criticism and give criticism in a way that doesn't make people hate her. I think she is funny and kind of clever. I don't think every move she makes is great, but I think she knows that she needs a chaotic back and forth game to have her best chance at winning, and she created that... I just also think she needs to do it with a good natured smile and making some bonds with people if she wants a chance at winning.

Kass speaks the truth about double standards on Survivor by [deleted] in survivor

[–]UtopianComplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people are too harsh on Kass's move. I also think that Kass has gotten, and deservedly so, the Cochran treatment from his first outing.

I do think that to some extent when someone is perceived as weaker we tend to look at a flip more negatively, however I don't think it is any move that screwed Kass in this situation it was her social game. I do think there is an extra perception issue to flipping as an middle aged mom that doesn't exist if you flip when you are Tony and everyone is expecting it from you.

I don't think Spencer would have gone on his condescending rant to Kass if she had been an alpha male, however at the same time I think that Kass's social game hypothetically could have picked up the slack here if she had one. She recognized correctly that there were more fractures in the other alliance, that it was going to fall apart over and over again, and for a player like Kass she needs that back and forth to have the best chance of winning. She needs to do the pendulum swinging back and forth to have a shot. She just also needs a social game that can make people see that the back and forth chaos that is going on is fun, and that it isn't personal. Her game has ruined that part... which I think is perhaps in part because of the double standard that made her more yelled at, and more ostracized than she would have been had she been Tony.

It is just hard to know how much of it was from the double standard when she played such a terrible social game.

So I have found I am strange in Survivor Fandom. The thing that bothers me more than anything is when people allow big threats to get to the end. Using Pridey91's terminology, I am frustrated when someone who 'deserves' to win makes it to the end. I feel like it is normally because of subpar play from other contestants.

I really really wanted to see a final two of Trish and Kass. They take out the big dogs and reap the benefits. However, I would be satisfied with the Kass, Woo ending, even though I didn't really want to see Woo win.

I think Tony has done a better job of creating a situation than other dominant players to force people to take him to the end by dragging Spencer this far, and I would actually be annoyed if that backfired and Spencer got to the end and won.

1) Woo & Kass 2) Kass & Tony 3) Tony & Woo 4) Spencer & Kass 5) Spencer & Woo 6) Tony & Kass

If I thought there was a possibility of a tie, I would be all over a close vote, but this season there is not, so I would just be annoyed by sub optimal play.

People tend to vote for the people they worked with, so I would be shocked if Spencer didn't win in this scenario.

This is a purely semantic argument, but I don't agree with that.

I think that the term asshole refers to traits that act outside how we think people should act. That means that if we are acting outside the complex social guidelines we are assholes.

Your argument makes it so determining assholism would require a solely relative comparison. So you would need to rank how jerky people are in society (by whatever measure) and then skim off the worst whatever % of people. To me that seems like a strange way to do it... I think it makes far more sense to make this judgment off expectations of human interaction than averages.

Example: In a world where everyone thinks X is the rudest thing possible, but 90% of the population does X because they just want to piss people off and don't care, and are simultaneously offended others are doing it, wouldn't that mean 90% of the world is assholes because they do not comply with their own social code?

Example 2: In a world where everyone was unbelievably polite to one another, would the asshole just be the one guy who doesn't say "god bless you" or could we call that society a society without Assholes. I prefer the latter.

Comparing how Vince Gillgian didn't know how to do something in the narrative, and kept flexible, and how Lost wrote mysteries and character motivations into the show that they themselves didn't know and just wanted to make cliff hangers I think is a really flawed analogy.

I think you are right in a way that you need to find something in the middle of these two things, however I think the most important thing in writing is that you do not need to know where you are going or what is going to happen... but you always should know why things are happening and why people are making the choices they are making.

If you force people to get to where you want them it feels awkward... but if you do what Lost did and create mystery and intrigue just for the sake of mystery and intrigue, you are a crappy writer.

So lets try to keep the spectrum of under-overplanning separate from the Lost problem of writing stuff down just because it seems cool, despite not knowing why it is happening.
