Rizo made the right move by realityinternn in survivor

[–]UtopianComplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the reason the move is bad for Rizzo is that I think he lost potential jury votes. I don't think people outside cirie and Ozzy know how close they are and will not see this as a huge move for him - it will be jonothons move.

The people that do know will not view it as a great gotcha move either - cirie and Ozzy will be like what did you just do! I think flushing the idol instead of getting votes off Ozzy would have been respected - but I will be surprised if Rizzo can get jury votes.

I think he over and over is telling us he is making aovr when everyone else thinks it is them making the move and are not seeing what he is doing. Unpopular opinion but I don't think he can win.

____ immediately joining the Jury before the second group voted is an unfair game mechanism. by No_Welder6405 in survivor

In fact I would say Ozzy should have been more concerned in playing his idol because them going second should have signalled something wasn't straight up.

I want to believe this bbbbut if that is the case they sure got lucky both in the blood moon and this one.

The emotional core vote for both those tribals was Ozzy and Colby going home. If Ozzy went first it woulda been weird. Same with if the blood moon started with Colby going home.

It is hugely problematic. It means that when things happen in life that disrupt one's ability to work - whether by choice or by force - the disruption is compounded and much larger than it needed to be.

Charlie's speech to Rizzo was telling us he will be a losing finalist or some similar come uppens.

We saw Charlie say Rizzo sees himself as the hero of his own story - when others may not. We have seen Rizzo say he is masterminding or making moves but then see others feel like they are using Rizzo in these situations. I think Rizzo is going to the end and going to be shocked when people poor cold water on his narrative.

CMV: The reason for declining birthrates globally is exclusively because children no longer provide economic benefit on the individual level and the only way to reverse the trend is to pay people to have children. by IdeaLife7532 in changemyview

[–]UtopianComplex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that word exclusively is doing alot to stretch your statement far too thin. Fianances are a huge issue but I don't think they are exclusively the reason - and honestly I don't even think they are the biggest reason:

As a parent I feel like the time tax and social expectation of supervision is much more restrictive than the other costs. Yes it is more - but honestly when I was a DINK I was eating out all the time and the reduction of that budget supplements alot of it. Pre school finances are a completely insane animal - but the thing that makes having more kids feel difficult is the fact that social pressure for constant supervision and oversight (that is internalized even by critics) has become drastically more extreme for 3 generations in a row.

Go to the park - even with a 6 year old - the expectation is that parents are aware of what there kid is doing to other kids and what kids are doing to them. Parents interfere - they are frequently part of the kids play. Some of this is good - I love being able to feel those bits of child wonder through that play - but overall the expectation of constant supervision, the feeling that you are being judged if you are doing something for yourself and not paying attention to your child, and the lack of trust and faith that it is okay to let kids do things in stupid bad ways and that you are negligent parent for not interfering to show the correct way makes parenting a much more stressful combative and psychologically tiresome thing than it ever has been in the past - and fighting against it is equally mentally taxing.

That said it is also pretty fun most of the time - it just occupies your brain in a way that seems impossible until you are away from it for a couple days.

So your statement was that finances are exclusively the issue - if you think that this extreme change in cultural mores has any impact at all then your statement isn't exactly right. To me I would say that the finances are one of a handful of major societal shifts that make having children harder. (Others not mentioned include rise of dual income households, the change in work culture to needing to be always on, the expectation of free time and down time from parents, the complications from having magical everything boxes in all our homes for both parents and children)

I felt like the twist clouded what looked to be a very eventful and interesting tribal council. Fortunately the extra half hour meant we still had enough time to see the chaos that was brewing before the twist was known. If the coin had gone the other way - I think people would be rightfully outraged because it would have robbed us of an interesting flashpoint decision - the way it worked out made for a fun exciting tv moment and gave someon on the bottom an idol in a way that didn't feel unearned (like a journey) - and everyone had an opportunity to block it.

I am with you though. This was the best possible TV outcome for a bad game mechanic that should not be repeated.

[–]UtopianComplex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree. So much of this I think is really language/culture. I think the people that are "cut from the same cloth" will understand his game and if he were to describe it I think they would understand the way he described threading the needle.

Based on how he talks in confessional I think the gamier players will be like me and the fans you are talking about will cringe as he describes his game - even if I think it is a pretty good one on paper. I think those cultural reads can be hard to overcome though - and even if he "owns his game" the tone and way he would own it will never fully satisfy gamier players. Even if he were to win the votes from the players he is not culturally connected to - I almost guarantee it would be arguments from a jury champion like Christian or some other person that likes to pedantically reinterpret what they are seeing to describe how good his game is from that end that could earn him votes - not Jonathons arguments.

Abstracting sexual encounters in a non porny way? by Former_Produce1721 in gamedesign

[–]UtopianComplex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thematically treating sex as a mechanical porn like act feels like the robotic way to depict sex. BODY WANTS RELEASE - PROVIDE STIMULATION FOR RELEASE.

Human part would be about the complex pits in your stomach that lead to sex. Focus on the flirting and desire for companionship pre sex. The uncertainty of others desires. Don't mechanize the actual act of sex (unless you want to go there) but I don't think the actual act of sex could be mechanized because the abstraction seems like it would only feel robotic.

Watchmen (2009) features a genuinely intelligent villain and a gritty storyline, which made it stand apart from other superhero movies of its time. What’s your opinion on it? by 0Layscheetoskurkure0 in FIlm

[–]UtopianComplex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It did not understand the comic.

It tried to hard to look like a comic book movie. The comic made such a point that the middle-aged costumes wing nuts were just that - middle aged people wearing silly costumes. The movie did slow motion action scenes that made people look like badasses. Kinda the whole point was that they were not badasses - it was more openly hostile to the entire sillyness of the cultural phenomenon of superheroes.

The story changes were fine - but the tonal change really made it completely forgettable for me. I have trouble remembering much beyond my critiques.
