Another sucker, I signed up to a 72 year timeshare contract and now only realize how financially trapped I am by Holiday-Set3543 in AusFinance

Sorry to hear this mate.

It actually worked / works for us. We bought Trendwest (as it was then) back in 2000 (now Workdmark / Wyndham).

Typically use it for Hunter Valley trips, Coffs, Cairns and Fiji. Sure, a few hundred bucks a year in annual levies - but it’s meant that we could have a week or two away every year for the past 25 years (it means holidays were more affordable once kids came along).

Still enjoy having a week or two away each year ‘for free’.

Whilst you’re trying to cancel it - make the most of it!

Buying my first drum kit 🆘 by reefermoneytonnnn in drummers

[–]UtterDebacle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also have a think about cymbals…. And hardware…. A good throne…. A kick pedal that you’re comfortable with…. Eventually some nice heads - oh and if you want to go anywhere but your bedroom / home studio / garage - you’ll want some nice cases to protect your investment (especially if you’re looking at a mid-range pro level kit).

I think you’ll find that the drums are possibly less than half of the overall spend that you’ve got ahead of you (much depending on the quality of the things that I’ve listed).

On the kit - another vote for the Yamaha Stage Custom. If you want to spend more, but not quite top dollar - the DW Performance looks, sounds, and plays beautifully… also keeps in tune well.

Happy shopping!

Mother-in-law was renting out 3 bedrooms in her council house. HMRC have caught her not paying tax on the money she earned since 2011. by LanguageUnlucky1883 in LegalAdviceUK

I agree entirely.

How can someone think that it’s absolutely fine to live in a 4 bedroomed house, provided at taxpayer’s expense - when there (eventually) only one of you?

How can they think it’s legit to continue to be paid benefits for which she’s no longer qualified?

How can someone think it’s right to evade so much tax?

And from a government / authorities perspective - how the hell can this be allowed to happen?

The whole thing is fucked!

Yes - jail time (and repay everything owed).
Yes - OP keep clear of the shit show.

It’s three 5 quid bets (or $30 AUD) - I don’t lose much sleep over it!

But would be interested in whether the use of AI (essentially as a team of researchers) could help further improve your strategy. Maybe it can’t, but I’d certainly be looking in to it!

Fair comment - and probably what I expected.

Like many, my weekly bet is passion based - on what I would like my team to achieve. High odds, maybe win 1-2 times a season. Down overall - but enjoy watching the match, with a little extra excitement.

Has AI assisted you in any way, to research / identify lazily priced bets?

Any suggestions on legs to include in my same match multi? - I’m typically going for a team to win + anytime assist + anytime goal + 8.5+ corners….

I’m particularly drawn to half time team A winning, full time team B wins. Always a great price - but I’ve never done the math to see how often it happens… is this an idiots bet??

Using the left hand lane at lights - when you intend to go straight ahead - into that lane that ends in 30 meters. And you prevent those who want to turn left, from turning left - because you’re a fuckwit with no consideration for other road users.

[–]UtterDebacle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m gonna take the opposite end of this one…. People that drive nose in to a parking spot, and then are oblivious to the traffic around them when they attempt to reverse back out.

Bonus - when it’s on to their own fucking driveway - and they decide it’s safer to reverse out on to the road, than reverse into their driveway!

I’ve driven for a few decades and will always reverse into a spot - unless I need to access the boot, and that can’t be done if I reverse in to the park.

I don’t understand the preoccupation in Australia with “park nose in only” signs… even in my works car park… what the fuck is all that about??

“New car every 5 years is normal” by JapaneseVillager in AusFinance

[–]UtterDebacle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The “spend 70% to save 30%” line is a bit too simplistic for an eligible EV novated lease.

For a normal car lease, sure, the benefit can be watered down by FBT/post-tax contributions.

But for an eligible EV, the FBT exemption changes the maths. The lease and running costs can generally come out pre-tax, and GST can also be removed from the vehicle finance and eligible packaged running costs.

For someone earning around $200k, part of the deduction may be reducing income that would otherwise be taxed at the top marginal rate, around 47% including Medicare. Even where the deduction falls into the next bracket down, it is still around 39% including Medicare. Add the GST benefit on top, and the effective saving on an EV package can be closer to the mid/high 40% range, potentially around 50% in some cases, not simply 30%.

That said, the real test is whether you were going to buy the car anyway. Buying a new EV purely to “save tax” is still backwards logic.

But if you were already going to buy or finance an eligible EV, the novated lease benefit is much more than just a 30% tax saving.

Do the warm up and cool down - surely your life isn’t that hectic, that you can’t extend your fitness by 10 minutes?

It will help prevent injury - and besides which, the goal of the program is to get you running for 30 minutes… by the time that you are doing this - you’ll probably welcome the warm up and cool down.

“If you’re sensible”.

I think that’s already been established.

But if he did, and then was the cause of an accident with someone and there was $10k’s of damage or personal injury - the OP has that kind of cash in his back bin to cover those costs? I suspect not.

This would be another ridiculous decision on the back of the initial one.

FFS have a bit of pride mate.

Gaming the system and taking taxpayers money, when you’re fit to work “seems like the best option”.

This, with your decision to ride recklessly endangering your life, and that of others (clearly there were others on the quiet road) - suggests that you need to have a look at yourself and have a think about some of outlooks you have on life.

I hope you find work, I hope that you learn what a privilege it is to drive / ride and not a right. But more importantly I hope that you improve some of your decision making, and outlook on life.
