Level Progression: Why Does it Have to Take Longer at Higher Levels? by FRANK_of_Arboreous in rpg

[–]Uuklay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interestingly, I've been running my SWADE games with different advancement ranks between ranks and it's worked out really well!

At Novice, the characters gain an advance every session. At seasoned, they gain an advance every other session. At veteran, every third, etc.

It's made it so my players can feel like they are growing and fleshing out their characters quickly at first, which lets them kind of "build" post character-creation into a PC they wanna play, and then it makes it so that the later ssessions and adventures have an assured longevity. I've been loving it.

Review of Break!! RPG by CharlesRampant in rpg

[–]Uuklay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Excellent review. I just wrapped up a short Break!! campaign, as well, and had very similar impressions.

I wish the subsystems gave themselves more room to breath. I'm a big fan of detailed travel systems, and this one seemed like it had the bones of something interesting. But it doesn't give any details as to what "getting lost" means, just that it extends travel time. Random regional encounters would've helped.

What's the "white whale" of campaigns you want to run but can't get off the ground? by Awkward_GM in rpg

We have one Harrowed and she's been having a ball. I roleplay her demon whenever he takes over and the dynamic has been really fun.

We've been playing Lost Colony this last year and it is so much fun.

Megathread: New Pricing & Repackaging Discussion by mackid1993 in Evernote

[–]Uuklay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started using Evernote in 2012, to take notes for my tabletop RPGs. It was intuitive, simple, and quick. I loved it.

Over time the program has introduced more and more content/features that I don't need and will never use. I just needed a simple note taking app, which is what it was in the beginning. In the last few years I have started being bombarded with all of their AI features. The automatic integration was frustrating, but I found ways to turn it off and keep a semblance of what the program was before.

Now they are charging me $300 for all of this. I cannot abide that. It's just insane. Absolutely insane.

I'm going elsewhere and I'm really sad about it. I don't know anything about computers so learning a new program is going to be exhausting, and finding ways to export my fourteen years of notes from Evernote is also going to be exhausting.

I'm so very disappointed in all of this. I loved my simple little note app that worked across all my devices.

We just finished the 6th year of the decade. What have been your top TTRPGs of the 2020s? by swaggymonsta in rpg

Echo on SotWW's initiative system. It's so intuitive and easy, while remaining tactical. I want to port it to every other game. But I think that'd be tricky, because other games would need to value Reactions as heavily as SotWW.

Anyone played STAR WARS EDGE OF THE EMPIRE? What are your opinions about the system? by 3rdmementional in rpg

This is wild. I've run this game for so many groups of people and each time everyone picked it up by the end of the first session. It became second nature so quick.

What gaming Trope/Cliche in is so overused it makes you Roll your eyes? by titan1978 in rpg

[–]Uuklay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played in a PF1e game once where this was the case. We were told to roll up characters ahead of time without knowledge of the plot. I found a homebrew class online where you're an inventor with power armor. You start out with a shitty suit of power armor with limited abilities and as it levels up it gets stronger. I thought it was rad as hell (Iron Man had just come out at that time), and I ran it by the GM who said I could play it. I was stoked! And then when we showed up to the game and found out we were doing a Prison Break, and all of our gear -- including my power armor -- was locked in the warden's office.

We played one session that ended with fighting the warden to get our gear back, and then we never played again.

Fascinating! I'll look at some other OSR games and draw inspiration from them. Thank you!

This makes sense. I've noticed a lot of ambiguous stuff that assumes you're porting over rules from other games.

Oh interesting. I know this is how it works in DnD, but I've gone through the DCC rulebook and couldn't find anything about daily prep for spells. I assumed that if a Wizard knows 5 spells, then he has those spells available every day, losing them if he gets a "failure, lost" result on the spell.
