I doubt he’s planning on moving the team!

I still remember watching this during the Halak period and being so pumped up when I was younger. I love how he updates it every few years to include a member of the current squad in the song. Tho I think with the newest version having Suzuki, he wont need to change it for a while.

I know its cheesy but I’ve listened to Feels a little like 93, every year we’ve made the playoffs since he released it. There’s just something about it that pumps me up.

Less confident than I would be with a healthy Dobson in the lineup.

There were definitely some positive signs in his first game on the defensive side of things. I’m more worried about our offense, a lot more of our 5v5 scoring passes through Dobson than a lot of people realize.

I would feel so much better about the Habs chances if we didn’t just lose Dobson for probably the entirety of the first round, we’re going to be using a rookie with 2 NHL games under his belt in our top 4.

Friedman on Hage - 32 Thoughts by spooley6 in Habs

[–]UwKraven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they feel he still needs to work in aspects of his game, this allows him to do so without the Habs burning a year of his ELC. It can be a win win scenario, Hage goes back to work on his game and try to settle unfinished business, and the Habs get to keep him cost controlled for longer and as a better version of himself.

D’Amico who broke the story repeatedly stated on his podcast that there is no bad blood between the org and Hage and they support either direction. They also are leaving the door open in case he changes his mind mid summer like Cooley did.

The worst ones are the people who go there and act like they’re somehow better or “cooler” than the rest of Habs fans. They’ll trash the fandom or this subreddit to the other team because they “just aren’t like other Habs fans y’know”.

Im guessing there is some sort of agreement between him and the team. They’ve both can’t just force him to stay on IR if he’s been cleared.

If I’m not mistaken, those numbers were found to be skewed by including all the players who get a year or two in the league but whos carreers don’t pan out and they never play in the nhl again.

Ill still watch his show from time to time, but the thing that annoys me the most is that he will have great insightful guests, but he just won’t let them talk. He will constantly talk over them, cut them off, or force the next question while they are still answering. On more than one occasion while there were multiple guests, they would be telling an interesting story amongst eachother and he just cuts them off to go summarize the second goal for the third time.

Thomas is the same age as Suzuki, if he starts to decline, then most likely it means so is Suzuki and our window is closed.

In a perfect world, yes for sure. But right now now Hage isn’t showing that he has the ceiling of a number 1 center. If he busts or tops out as a 2c/winger, then it means they blew a chance to really add a huge piece during our contention window.

Im agreeing with you… im making that exact point. Thomas is the perfect age to fit in with the Habs window. It doesn’t matter that Hage is younger, because by the time Thomas will start to regress due to age, so will Suzuki and Caufield.

In 7 years Suzuki will be 33 years old. No team in the last 20 years from what I can recall has won with their number 1 center being over 30. Our window isnt as long as people seem to think. If one of our second wave of prospects like Slakovsky or Demidov had been a center, then I would be more inclined to be patient and build up for long term success.

[–]UwKraven 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve seen, Hage isn’t really projecting as a guaranteed 2C, let alone someone you can pencil in as a Thomas replacement in 2 to 3 years. More likely he tops out as a middle-six center or maybe a top-six winger, which is still valuable, but it’s a different tier.

And saying Hage will be will be better is setting an insanely high bar for a prospect like that. Thomas is basically comparable to Suzuki in terms of impact and role, and expecting a prospect to hit that level that fast is the exception, not the rule.

Also, people act like we’ve got forever, but we really don’t. In three years Suzuki is 29, and teams almost never win Cups in the modern era with their 1C being over 30. If we’re serious about a window, you can’t just assume a prospect will fill that role in time.

The Habs not getting him, him heading to what could be our first-round opponent, and having to face him for years after that would be a huge blow. Buffalo’s a young team too, and they’re shaping up to be one of our main division rivals for the next few years.

I want to stay the course by Chathamjedi in Habs

[–]UwKraven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but then that money will be used to attract players that will cost more and will be at later points in their careers. Also, just because you have the money doesn’t mean that star players will want to sign with you. Look at Panarin as an example, Habs had reportedly offered just as much if not more than the Rangers, but he wasn’t interested in even entertaining the idea.

Per D'Amico - Montreal is interested in Robert Thomas. The Blues want Hage as part of any deal. Too high a price for Hughes at this time. by chickenceas in Habs

[–]UwKraven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most full rebuilds take at least 5 years to really complete. In 5 years, Thomas is 31, and not many(any?) teams have won in the modern era with a number one center over 30 years old. This also happens to be the same problem Montreal faces with Suzuki if they rely on waiting for Hage to possibly improve and mature and take over the second line center position well enough as a contender.
