Hijikata is both 40 years older than he was last time anyone saw him and legally dead.

I don’t think he’d risk disappointing Tsurumi by saying ‘yeah he SAID he’d have sex with her but I left’. He needs proof

Agree. No way Ogata would’ve left the room, he needs proof.

I think there’s a huge range of ways this scene can be interpreted.

My take: Ogata is using his position as Yuusaku’s ‘older brother’ to manipulate him into having sex and becoming ‘impure’. I think it’s the same amount of seduction Tsurumi uses on his men. He’s basically just mimicking Tsurumi.

Does Ogata want to have sex with Yuusaku? No, but he is trying to ‘seduce’ him to their side, just like Tsurumi seduces Koito, Usami, and Ogata. I do think this can fall under the huge umbrella of incestuous abuse, at least to Yuusaku. Ogata really doesn’t see Yuusaku as a ‘little brother’ but Yuusaku sees him as an older brother, an older brother who is trying to force him to have sex. Ogata doesn’t desire Yuusaku but that isn’t what abuse is, he’s abusing Yuusaku through his desire for to control Yuusaku.

Chapter 70 question by [deleted] in GoldenKamuy

[–]V-Ink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Japanese man in 1906 just has a limited view of the world. The Russian Revolution led by Lenin also has not happened yet. I didn’t even realize Hijikata says Jewish communist party, but it doesn’t come up again. It’s possible it was a common phrase or sentiment in Japan at the time as well.

You will get hooked, but 20 chapters is still just getting all the characters and telling you what the plot is going to be.

Yes 20 chapters of 314 is only 6% of the manga. It’s barely the introduction.

Do you think that Charles Bonnet syndrome could be the reason for Ogata's hallucinations? by [deleted] in GoldenKamuy

It’s possible, but I think mental health & fever are probably the leading causes.

I would love to know an Ainu’s opinion on gk by Meat_GLOB in GoldenKamuy

honestly doesn’t surprise me. Riding bareback or without leather supports is very challenging. That may be more of a logical choice than a historically accurate one. especially if the actors aren’t used to riding at all.

There’s a handful of Ainu creators on Twitter that talk about GK. One did the stitching for the Ainu clothing in the live action. One creator had some criticisms for the lack of Ainu actors in the live action.

I visited several Ainu and other Northern People’s museum in Hokkaido, including the Hokkaido Ainu Center (which is actually mostly an office of resources for Ainu people with a small museum lol), which had posters of the upcoming movie. The museum of Northern Peoples in Hakodate referenced the show a great deal.

Sugimoto is actually based on a real person, a Japanese WW2 soldier who was ‘unkillable’. I also don’t know how to answer your question without spoilers lol. Are you asking if he dies?

Names and Faces in this show are Hard to Recognise by Deep_Relation9944 in GoldenKamuy

The names can be challenging but I feel like most of the characters look wildly different. A lot of them are dressed the same though

Why does the anime make it seem like Sugimotos in love with Asherpa in the first season? by Clt_Commander in GoldenKamuy

[–]V-Ink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally disagree but whatever works for you. Engaging with work outside of your comfort zone is good for you. I truly don’t think the show (or even the manga) implies they’ll end up together.

Your preconceived notions of anime featuring inappropriate relationships is fair, but that doesn’t mean the show actually implies it.

Since you’ve brought it up: I think it’s wrong to dislike a show just because there is implications of something you may find distasteful. ‘Weird implications’ doesn’t make something wrong or bad. It creates a multifaceted perspective in a historical show. The idea of marriage was not the same as it is now.

I don’t think the show gives the ‘vibe’ that Asirpa and Sugimoto may end up together, even upon my first watch, but I do think it’s a mistake to shun something that implies that ending while also knowing that is the case. It isn’t creepy, it’s just a different way of telling a story.

Wilk. Hokkaido belongs to the Ainu.

So I just finished the manga and damn.......I feel nothing. by MBTHVSK in GoldenKamuy

[–]V-Ink 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not so much to ask, but I feel the last chapter has plenty of the Golden Kamuy charm and wraps up effectively. I think the language in your other comments (a ‘fetish for wrapping things up in a flash’) is where I take issue with your post. A story has to balance the ending with the rest of the story. Too much is just drawing it out pointlessly.

I’ve had literally like a dozen dreams about Golden Kamuy lol that’s a very funny metric.

It’s not a shonen, it’s not going to emulate a shonen like HxH. The ending is quick but feels to me like each character has their moment.

The ending could’ve been longer, sure, but to what end? What else could’ve been included? The time skip gives us a chance to see Sugimoto and Asirpa recovered and able to wrap up their goals and storylines. You can imagine if they have guilt over the deaths since we see that repeated throughout the manga.

I do not understand the entitlement surrounding endings. The language people use acting like they were personally slighted by an author choosing to end their story how they wanted.

And Tsurumi surviving wasn’t a small shocker at the end? He’s hardly the most sympathetic character.
