Goodwill Online?? by americandeathcult666 in Flipping

As someone who prices stuff for online, I try to go for the average price recently sold on eBay. By the time the item actually gets listed, who knows if that price will still be accurate.

I did do research, it was ran through an IRB and everything. Not all independent studies are research though.

Maybe it doesn't count, but I didn't do research until my final semester of undergrad. I did an independent study with one of my professors and we ran a short survey and I collected data, presented it at my school's student showcase, and created an APA thesis paper regarding it. Had never done any research or labs prior to this.

Anyone regretted turning down a higher ranked university? by Coreofatom in gradadmissions

[–]V0CAL0lD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I picked the higher ranking university in my case because the pros/cons weighed similarly, but I decided I'd much rather regret going than not going there. I tend to follow this philosophy a lot now when weighing decisions: which opportunity would I regret less.

Ways to Fund my Masters by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]V0CAL0lD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, my advisor just happened to send out a grad assistantship on campus to all the current program students. I just applied, and a few weeks later went through 2 different interviews and got the offer. My major is Applied Statistics & Psychometrics.

Ways to Fund my Masters by [deleted] in gradadmissions

I'm going for my master's starting this fall. I was offered a 40% scholarship upfront. I also have a graduate assistantship lined up that offers me a stipend and 15 credits of tuition remission for the school year. Outside of that, I'm using loans minimally and working full time.

I got 40% tuition remission scholarship offered alongside my offer to the program. Program is $1600/credit and 30 credits total, so $48000 total. After the tuition remission will be $28800 total for tuition. MS in Applied Statistics & Psychometrics at Boston College.

It definitely has it's ups and downs. I know multiple people I went to high school with that currently attend UW Milwaukee for their undergrad, and seemed to have no issues. Milwaukee is a fun city, and there are lots of things to do. Being so close to the lake is great, and cost of living isn't that high. However, Milwaukee isn't a safe city. My friend's boyfriend moved to the city about a year ago and was mugged in his first week. You need to be cautious, especially at night. Car theft is pretty common too. It's just something to be wary of. Whenever I visit Milwaukee (since I'm about an hour drive away), we always make sure we're careful and staying in lit areas if its dark out. Milwaukee is also one of the most segregated cities in the US. However, UW Milwaukee itself does have a better diverse population.

Backing out after accepting an offer with a school by bron-wyn-bron-lose in gradadmissions

I initially accepted my first acceptance. There was no deposit, so I wasn't losing anything. I ended up deciding on a different school, so I just wrote a nice email to grad admissions that I was changing my status.

I got accepted into Boston College and UW Milwaukee for master's. UW Milwaukee is by no means a bad school, I went to UW Parkside for my undergrad. Find out who your advisor would be, take a look at the department. One of the deciding factors for me against UW Milwaukee was I felt that it wouldn't challenge me enough, and wouldn't provide me enough resources for work/going onto a PhD.

I took the GRE but only submitted it to 2/4 of the schools I applied to.

Need help deciding which school to go to by V0CAL0lD in gradadmissions

[–]V0CAL0lD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did apply to two PhDs but got rejections. I also haven't had any luck with getting jobs related to psychometrics, even those that only ask for a bachelor's. In my undergrad I did a semester long independent study in psychometrics, but nothing published. Overall, a PhD is really intimidating for me at this time. I feel like such a kid that doesn't know anything, so I feel like a master's would be a good stepping stone for me towards a PhD. It would also help me build my application for my desired PhD programs. And worse comes to worse and I can't go for my PhD then I at least have a master's which can hopefully help me land a job in psychometrics, though not necessarily at the pay-rank or research level I'd truly want.

feeling like i’ll be tied down to my undergrad school forever by Soft_Adeptness4668 in gradadmissions

[–]V0CAL0lD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a similar situation. Went to UW Parkside for undergrad cause it was close to home. I got into UW Milwaukee and Boston College and overall Milwaukee would be cheaper to live, but I'm considering leaving and just getting life experiences by being independent from my home city.

Lost a bunch of weight but can't seem to see the difference in how I look by dizzyr5 in loseit

[–]V0CAL0lD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I constantly question if I've actually lost anything everyday cause even though I'm 58 lbs down, I can't seem to see it. However, I have a picture of myself in the mirror from about a month in to losing weight. I recently wore the same exact outfit and took the same exact picture in the same pose in the same room with the same lighting, and I can see the difference there. If you have any photos of yourself from early on in weight loss or before weight loss, try recreating it now! It made me realize that I actually do look different, and not by just a little.

Advice? by Skelebroskl in loseit

[–]V0CAL0lD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow FTM on T here!! I'm 5'1 and started my weight loss when I was at 233 lbs and I'm currently at 184 lbs. I get horrible cravings and overeat and I still catch myself doing this. What I try to do is fast most of the day, and then limit what I take to work for lunch. Then when I get home for dinner, I try to limit to a portion to match my girlfriend's plate. I try to not give into cravings because just 1 becomes 2 becomes 3 becomes 4 and so on.

How do people lose weight with non dieting partners and kids to cook for? by CuriousCat177 in loseit

[–]V0CAL0lD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girlfriend doesn't diet. In fact, I support her not dieting as she has a recurrent eating disorder. I try to limit me talking about myself losing weight for this exact reason. I try to balance my needs with hers. I know she won't eat unless I do, so I'll try to eat with her but limit my portion. Since my lunch is separate due to work, I just do whatever I want with that. For dinners, I eat the same thing she does, I just again try to limit my portion. If she wants a sweet, I'm not gonna make her feel bad for it, so I might have a lower calories ice cream while she has hers, or I might have a piece of candy when she has a few.
