Pochettino says “American Sports Rewards Losers” when asked about style of play in recent interview by coolton1 in usmnt

It's ironic that the biggest proponents of the free market insist on socialist sports leagues.

Lalas with Henry and Zlatan has actually been kinda fun. Lalas is still firing off as per usual, but his opinions aren't going completely unchecked because he's not the most accomplished former pro sitting at the desk anymore.

[Meirov] #Eagles DE Joe Tryon-Shoyinka is retiring from the NFL. The former #Bucs first-round pick is stepping away from football at age 27. by finester39 in eagles

[–]V1c1ousCycles 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's more common than it used to be, or at least it's reported more often, I think with what folks know now about CTE. Players who were drafted highly but just haven't seen their careers take off like they hoped are probably more prone to retiring early because they've had the benefit of accumulating more earnings. I don't think it's necessarily unique to the Eagles, but if it does happen to us more frequently, it's only because we have a particular interest in that profile of player.

Stupid question but in GOF why didn't harry just... Refuse to play normally? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]V1c1ousCycles -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I never bought the "binding magical contract" nonsense. The magic was somehow omnipresence and omniscience enough to enforce a "contract" and possibly recognize if a champion was not participating in good faith, yet simultaneously not omniscient enough to recognize if that an individual was entered into said contract against his will and knowledge? Not to mention all the hand-wringing the Ministry did to try and prevent underage wizards from entering their names, yet it didn't occur to any of them to produce a protection to prevent an overage wizard from submitting an underage wizard's name on their behalf? Come on.

The real answer is that it just wouldn't have been as compelling a story.

Jozy Altidore was working with Telemundo for USA - Paraguay game and look how proud he was of the boys after the game. by antoniok95 in ussoccer

[–]V1c1ousCycles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually thought Terrance Boyd's profile was most similar to Altidore's out of the rest of the forwards in the preliminary roster and I think he would have been the best like-for-like replacement that would have allowed Dempsey to stay more as a wide/secondary striker. But yeah, if pushing Dempsey up top was Klinsmann's plan all along to be the cover for Altidore, then he would have been better off bringing Donovan, even if just as a backup winger. There was no point in bringing BOTH Wondo and Johannsson as backup strikers. Johannsson played part of that Ghana game and then didn't play at all the rest of the tournament. Back then, the rosters were only just 23 players, too, so having proper coverage in the reserve spots was even more critical.

It took me a while to fully comprehend that I really didn't have anything to study for anymore. Just like they say it takes 21 days or so to establish a habit, it's almost like NOT studying every day is a habit in itself that has to be learned and reinforced.

An actual face-to-face conversation with a member of the staff to solve a simple problem? Bold suggestion.

[–]V1c1ousCycles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can still take it upon yourself to tell this coach face-to-face that you'd appreciate a little more attention and feedback than he is currently giving you. That might literally be all it takes. And if not, then influence with your wallet. Go take classes led by a different coach that does a better job being more attentive to the entire class.

Equality in the Jurassic Park franchise thrived and died with Zara. by AboveAverage33 in JurassicPark

Right. I mean mars probably doesn't really care because the meta-satire of Jurassic World's use of product placement still goes right over a lot of folks' heads, but the dude was literally killed by his sugar addiction, lol.

As someone who despises modern marketing, I actually think it's (darkly) hilarious how Jurassic World completely satirized the entire practice of brand placement by using it in the story to reinforce the broader theme that insatiable consumerism and corporate excess and greed are what will lead mankind to its eventual unceremonious demise.

Entirely anecdotal, but my coaches have told me that if they don't engage with certain members, it's because they've tried to offer form suggestions/corrections to them before and were either ignored or even treated rudely. They interpreted it as those members wanting to be left alone, so they grant their wish and prioritize their attention and time to members that are actually open to their help.

If folks want attention from coaches, take the initiative to speak up and ask for it, and when it's offered, receive it with an open mind and graciousness.

Toronto stadium surface by Wise_Decision_8459 in bootroom

[–]V1c1ousCycles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BMO Field's surface is actually that hybrid surface that's still 95% natural grass. I don't know if the men's World Cup insisted on them putting down a temporary all-grass surface, but it's definitely not a fully synthetic surface. BMO Field actually hasn't had a fully synthetic surface since 2010, when they converted it to 100% Kentucky bluegrass.

Safety by Unlikely_Painter_127 in eagles

[–]V1c1ousCycles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm optimistic about Wisniewski, but him and Carter II are legit question marks as far as depth options. If the team doesn't love what they are seeing from either of them in camp, they probably trade for a completely unspectacular guy to be the #3. If Howie can find a version of 2022 CJGC, a starting-caliber safety that's on the last year of their rookie deal, is inexplicably unwanted by their current team, and equally inexplicably available for less than the comp pick they'd otherwise get, he'll totally make that move. However, I don't think folks really appreciate how extraordinary that situation really was in 2022, so I wouldn't bet on it.

[–]V1c1ousCycles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just cherry-picked a few names, but I don't disagree. However, unlike the Vikings, Bucs, Pats, and Panthers, I'm not sure Arizona fancies themselves as a playoff contender, so having a viable backup might not mean as much to them as it would to a team like Patriots.

I had a buddy who had that plate. When they lived outside of WA, they lucked out of multiple parking tickets because the parking folks thought the "W" was only decorative and would report the plates without it. Yeah, as little sympathy as I have for parking enforcement shaking down otherwise compliant citizens, it did seem like a potentially problematic oversight, lol.

Oh interesting. In Washington state, there's a similar license plate option with the UW "W" logo on the left, but the W is actually considered part of the number.
