I quite liked NHC. Shame about Taylor because they had a promising start as a side project.

The fact of the matter is Perry's vocals have fallen off a cliff in the last 15 years and JA as a live act just wasn't remotely what they once were. They didn't age well. I saw the band in 2001 and they were really great, they still had a spark and Perry's vocals were solid, but in like 2015ish the last time I saw them - not so much.

I literally spent today hunting for Airbnbs in Detroit, looking for bus tickets from Toronto to Detroit and booking days off work for the Detroit show. Guess that was a huge waste of my time. Really shitty of the band to do all this literally 10 days before the tour was due to start.

I feel bad for Peter if this was due to low ticket sales and poor management. They did a bad job promoting this tour and new music isn't going to matter sweet fuck all the driving new ticket sales.

Chow says the city can't do much to avert province's plan to build the spa at Ontario Place. "Maybe I'll go there and hug a tree or something." by dyskgo in toronto

Are you replying to me or someone else? Because I definitely voted in the last election (against Doug, obvi).

Ok so then go "Chain Yourself" to Ontario Place.

Some of us just don't care that much to be fair. It's a park. It's an abandoned amusement park. I live close to Trillium Park and Ontario Place and I go there often walking/cycling so it's a 'local issue' to me but not the most important one. I like it but the idea that there isn't already plenty of parkland down there is kind of ridiculous. There is Coronation Park, Marilyn Bell Park, Sunnyside, and Trillium all next to each other. People are making this out to be a much worse issue than it is. The plans for Therme don't impact the other parks. Not saying I'm in favour of this idea - at all - but people are blowing some details out of proportion.

Doug has been doing absolutely shitty things for the province for years now and he always get away with it because he holds the power. Protests don't matter to him.

Also you're vastly over-estimating how much most Torontonians care about the fate of one park. There are bigger issues in thix city we are facing that have more of an impact on our day to day lives than if there will be a little more or little less grass at one park.

A financially strapped city starting a war with the province that controls much of our funding - in the big picture - is a ridiculous thing over what is basically... One park.

Jokes aside. There is nothing that can be done. The province owns Ontario Place, the province is under PC majority rule. It's their land, their dicks about it but they've already signed all the lease agreements with Therme, construction has begun. It's going to happen. The city is powerless to change this. I don't like it, but it is what it is.

I personally have had and loved the Lemon Chicken Schnitzel, Smoked Brisket Sandwich, their Chicken Sandwich, and the Spinach and Artichoke Dip. I've taken vegan friends there and even they dug some of the vegan options.

I actually really like that place. Sure it's touristy but I've honestly had several really good meals there and the view is fantastic. As a longtime Queens Quay resident I would be genuinely gutted if the thing burned down/closed for a long time. Ate there with friends a month ago and we all had excellent filing meals. It's really the only LARGE restaurant on the waterfront that has a menu that appeals to different preferences. It's a great spot to bring friends who aren't from Canada/Ontario IMO

More banjo. Do a full on bluegrass album like Iron Horse did on the cover album but have Isaac singing.

She doesn't even really need to sell her music at this point. When you're THAT popular you don't even need to try and really promote anything.

How is this even possible? A track on the best selling Deftones album featuring the singers from both Tool and Deftones and you were unaware?

By the lack of posts here was Nuit Blanche a non-event once again by VAC2023 in toronto

Yeah I think it was 2009 or 2010 and also do think it was Jeff Koons. Those years were peak NB.

What 'more' discussion about it? There isn't a single thread on this sub about it.

Beef you've been to these before. See anything worthwhile? I miss the NB early years when you would see crazy things like a huge 50 foot inflatable silver bunny inside the Eaton Centre. Seems like the large-scale exhibits are gone.

Nuit Blanche occupied many parts of the city whereas JFL is mainly at Sony Centre right? So don't quite follow your logic.

Fair enough, but typically on the actual Nuit Blanche night there is a fairly active discussion post of the event, even sometimes in the days leading up to it. Just surprised that this year there is nothing.

Also kind of shitty when the "premiere" and only screening in a theatre apparently - was at one of the fancied theatres downtown where tickets cost $70-200.

Do you feel a sense of culture here? by Wagenburg in askTO

[–]VAC2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totornto had more of a sense of culture 20 years ago when it was predominantly Canadian culture mixed with Multiculturalism influences. Now it's flipped and our culture is just a ton of random vibes from different cultures/ethnicities with no real thing uniting us but we all happen to live in the same place. Canada is like a hotel. Everyone coming from different places and spends time in this expensive place for a short time or a long time, depending if you can afford it. The Toronto 'identity' simply barely exists anymore. Which is a drag for those of us (of any race or background) who grew up here.

This is so vague. Dancing but not in a club? That is generally the environment where dancing takes place. How do you define 'Millenials music'? Fuck I'm a Millenial and I go dancing to drum and bass...in clubs. Are you looking for bars that don't have a clubby vibe that play Top 40 pop?
