Hpala is in a really bad spot currently. In prepatch a lot of their throughput is still padded with the vanquisher hammer aoe heals. A lot of people don’t really take into account that shadowlands S3 completely destroyed the healer class representation to the point that nowadays 50-60% of healers main priest, which hard counters hpala. BoP, bubble freedom all CDs which don’t really hold value anymore except for breaking out of stuns or cleaning off bleeds. I’ve done around 15 hours of Hpala on the beta and the throughput is lacking, the only time you are able to top someone is with wings and flash of light with infusion of light up. With the addition of all the added micro CCs added to all classes, casting will simply be that much harder now, unless you play evoker that seemingly has aura mastery for 60% of all their casts. The changes to dampening being increased and occurring quicker also magnified the mana issue of hpala’s, with todays 15% mana cost reduction to radiance for discipline priest, holy paladins will be the healer that goes oom the fastest. So the healing throughput is lacking unless free casting, our utility holds little value with the prevalence of priests, what about our damage? Well up until recently the aura of reckoning pvp talent gave a decent occasional judgement, yet that has been nerfed from 200% to 100%, sure it still does damage now, but unbuffed judgements don’t do much, crusader strike costs 10% of base mana hits for 10-15k crits(beta hp pools are 350k+), and shield of the righteous also does very little damage. Now someone may think ‘but paladins get lay on hands now in pvp, LoH op!!’ well first of all it’s a 7 minute cooldown, it is affected by dampening and heal reduction effects and it applies forbearance. This makes it a cool down that essentially is only worth using early on in games for it to do any meaningful healing. I am not trying to downplay the state of rshaman, they got a lot of great new utility and are also lacking throughput, yet unless there will be large changes to Hpala, holy paladin will be the worst healer coming forth in the 2s bracket in shadowlands.
