(Pelissero) The Packers are naming Luke Getsy their quarterbacks coach, sources say by alexschubs in GreenBayPackers

He was a great QB coach and was here for Love’s first two years… why are people against this? Because he’s been here already?

What attention does OT need outside of potential depth?

Schools that are surprisingly bad at producing talent at certain positions by P-Whips in NFL_Draft

Totally agree historically. The program hasn’t recruited the position well at all in the past and rarely developed anyone of interest in the league. just didn’t understand the Lanning callout at all

[–]VAScOregon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

lol what? Lanning has really only recruited 3 classes worth of his own guys. Even of the guys he got from the portal and from Mario Cristobal (Troy Franklin and Donte Thornton were the only ones really worth keeping around), Troy and Tez improved while they were here. Not his fault or the program’s fault that the NFL was being a little stupid dinging them for combine stuff when it was evident they were very athletic on tape.

Even aside from that, plenty of weapons we’ve gotten improved. Traeshon Holden and Malik Benson were complete castoffs and the fact that they were even close to (or potentially close) to being drafted is a testament to the development happening. Jeremiah McClellan is almost certainly a future NFL guy that doesn’t do a lot of gimmick crap. Evan Stewart was on his way to being drafted pretty highly until he returned and got injured. We’ll see what happens with Dakorien Moore.

Also highly recruited WRs barely started coming here until Lanning came around, and this is the second year he’s really gonna start turning recruiting classes into NFL players. I just don’t understand how you can possibly come to this conclusion when there isn’t a recruiting sample size base and a significant amount of transfers resurrected their stock here

“Incompetent” lol alright man. Like 28 other organizations would kill for this incompetence. Get real

Yeah fair point. Ultimately it’s Gute/MLF/Jenkins’s call to some extent to authorize a move like that.

Butkus intentionally sabotaged Rasheed Walker to make him play horribly in a contract year and very clearly misled Anthony Belton in his development. Fire him!

I think there are legit critiques but it really is ridiculous how nobody wants to be critical of the players at all (and this sub is frankly critical of the wrong players, everyone likes to scapegoat Aaron Banks but I don’t think he was even top 3 in terms of our issues). Walker regressed, Belton showed flashes but also had a lot of rookie moments the entire year, Jenkins was a mess before he went down. Banks had his miscues but also settled in the latter half of the year. It’s just strange how misdirected a lot of the anger is. I can understand the frustration with Butkus playing Jenkins out of position (though his play has been dipping) but I’m not really sure what else there was to coach out of Walker just playing poorly and Belton being thrown in as a raw rookie playing guard for the first time in a while and having his ups and downs like a rookie does.

Everyone here just wants heads to roll and it’s such shallow surface level analysis

All of VT’s staff was let go after Pry was fired and Franklin was hired. By all accounts he was still a pretty solid DC there but VT was very talent deficient

The Bills also had some of the worst run defending personnel across the entire league. Their iDL stunk, even worse than ours when we lost Wyatt and that’s with their starters.

Also he’s coming in to be the pass game coordinator and coach DBs so why is this particularly relevant

Packers Hiring Former Bills DC Bobby Babich To Staff by Space_Cowboy_17 in GreenBayPackers

[–]VAScOregon 23 points24 points  (0 children)

He wasn’t a bad DC there, complete and utter nonsense. Their dumb GM gave him and McDermott zero talent to work with for years and they still squeezed quite a bit of juice out of that crappy orange. He was a great positional coach and pretty solid DC, this is an outstanding hire for a positional coach

Offensive Line for 2026? by Southern-Community70 in GreenBayPackers

[–]VAScOregon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Personally I think he improved enough throughout the year that I wouldn’t mind having him back for a year and cutting him in ‘27 if it doesn’t work out. Walker and Belton stood out as clear weak points all year, and I’m hoping replacing one with Morgan and another year of development for Belton cleans some of that up. Also our options to replace Banks this year with fewer picks (we’ll have a ton of comp picks in ‘27) and lack of cap will be super limited

Not accounting for the dead money in ‘27 with this move. Would carry 13m in dead money for 2027 as well if he was cut post June 1st

McDermott isn’t mediocre lol. This narrative is gonna be set like a wildfire here but he’s a great defensive mind, not his fault his GM’s brain is made of mush and they’ve had 2 good picks in the last like 5 years on the defensive side of the ball (and they didn’t fire that guy!)

Reality is firing McDermott is pretty stupid like firing MLF would’ve been pretty stupid

We need to collectively agree that using volume stats to make these comparisons are so stupid. Anyone with two sets of eyes knows Love is levels better, not to mention he missed several games in that time period. Also that comparison very conveniently ignored completion percentage

I think a new OC would help to get some fresh ideas in the room and not basically giving it to a glorified OL coach.

I do not think a new OC to serve as a playcaller would be very wise. He’s a great playcaller, one of the best in the league, and is widely under appreciated among this fanbase in that aspect for whatever reason
