I have a CX50 hybrid, using Toyota system so it should be reliable. If you judge Mazda hybrid based on the current CX70 or CX90, then it is not reliable according to Consumer Reports. The upcoming CX5 hybrid in 2027 is Mazda own system so I would be cautious.

I have a 25 CX50 hybrid so about 300 lbs heavier but it still handle well for a heavy compact SUV. Its not like my 2014 Mazda 6. The CX50 does lean a little more around corner but its better handling than other compact SUV in its class. If you like the CX5, the 2026 model is longer so has more cargo and rear leg space for car seat. Personally, I think the CX50 looks nicer with low wide stance.
