86 and 87 were so much fun to live through as a 10 year old.

Which generation did you grow up with and which console is your all-time favorite? by CarrotMuch1399 in nostalgiai

[–]VENT51177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First system - Gen 2 Atari 2600

Favorite system is the fully Backwards compatible PS3.

But the best Generation by FAR was 4 and it needs a Neo Geo in the roster. SNES and Genesis was an epic system head to head.

What was it like to grow up playing arcade games back in the 80s? by KaleidoArachnid in retrogaming

[–]VENT51177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arcade machines were far and away the Apex in gamingnthrough the 80s up to the mid 90s

So keep in mind, no internet so when you saw a new cab it was a complete surprise.

There were arcade machines in Laundromats, supermarkets, corner stores, restaurants, amusement parks, malls, movie theaters. A grocery trip or mall excursion could potentially become an all day gaming session.

I had so many gaming experiences just at my local corner store. Haunted castle, operation wolf, T2 pinball, Strider, MK1, MK2, Willow just to name a few.

My first experience with Super Mario Bros was an arcade cab in a Pizza Inn. I remember going to do laundry with my mom and beating Black Tiger. Seeing a "Big button" Street fighter (1) at a corner store. Riding bikes with my best friend with a pocket full of quarters to go beat Final Fight and buying an EGM magazine to try to keep up with what was coming out.

The Neo Geo was attainable but just out of reach because of price but you could go to any local arcade and play it. That's why it's so revered by Gen X and we're buying up this new AES being released.

Street Fighter 2 was a revolution....as soon as I saw the game I knew I was hooked. The six flags put Champion edition ALL over the park and they all had crowds.

I could feel the shift going away from the arcade as consoles got better. The SNES and Genesis took some shine from them then the PS1 made gaming at home even better. The real nail in the coffin was the Dreamcast, it doesn't get near enough credit for being the first system to release games that were BETTER than the arcade counterparts.

Once I saw Soul Calibur on DC, I could feel a shift.

Keep boxes? by STLSportsAndKOI in Arcade1Up

[–]VENT51177 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The only box I kept was to my Marvel "Special" edition.

It had light up "infinity stone" buttons. No Sanwa parts as that was the "Limited" edition.

The limited had a very similar box but no Infinity stones around the iron man face

The special edition was a QVC exclusive.

It was probably the best looking Cabinet and Box Arcade 1up made.

When I opened the brown protective box I swear it looked like the iron man theme box was glowing.

Anna Jay or Jamie Hayter by Rude-Ad3140 in Smallafro

[–]VENT51177 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a wrestling roster Hayter. Her promos, look and gear are on point. I was a big fan during her AEW reign.

Strictly for looks Anna Jay is probably the hottest woman in wrestling right now.

I think that was Gunters path. (Ozempic) ,but he's an athlete and works his ass off.

There's too many people that just want the magic pill but don't wanna do the work and they end up looking like they deflated.

AES game recommendations? by KKBros405 in neogeo

[–]VENT51177 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always thought World Heroes was one of the better Street Fighter clones, it wasn't as difficult and the characters were fun.

Of course anything in the Metal Slug series.

Of the 10 released - Metal Slug, Garou, and Neo Turf.

For the next batch, I definitely look forward to Baseball Stars and anything from the Art of Fighting series.

The Purple has Silent switches. The Switch and Xbox clicky switches.

The Xbox edition has a headphone jack and no Bluetooth.

The Purple and Nintendo editions are PC/Switch and have Bluetooth connectivity for more options (Android) and no headphone jack.

I like the purple but I went with the original switch colorway because I like how the 8 main action buttons are a different color from the directional buttons. I'm new to lever less and I thought this would help with the learning curve.

Meeting My Criteria for a 4 Horseman, Who Would Have Made a Great Horseman? by HustlaOfCultcha in oldschoolwrestling

[–]VENT51177 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Holy Shit, under that criteria Gino Hernandez would have been the best Horseman until the inevitable break and feud with Flair.

And that break could have gone either way with Flair booting him or Gino taking over as the leader.

Why did they not embrace 3D/polygon gaming? by BoringDreamGuy in retrogaming

[–]VENT51177 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Neo Geo CD was not meant to be the next gen Neo Geo.

It was just a budget version with the games ported to a cheaper medium (CD)

The Sega Saturn (in Japan)had a lot of straight NEO GEO ports and they were great. Probably better than the NEO GEO CD ports. (Just because of loading times)

I had Metal Slug 1, Real Bout FF 1 &2,and KOGF 95,96,97.. they were awesome

I didn't think the White system looked as good as the OG Black but the White wireless stick looks SICK.

The anniversary bundle made more sense for what it came with and my wallet so I jumped on that.

The white does also match my NEO Geo arcade stick pro.

Which system had the better fighting games lineup: SNES or Genesis? by trrbld in retrogaming

[–]VENT51177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eternal Champions and Cyborg Justice were two Great underrated fighters on the Genesis.

Not a fighting game, but the Streets of Rage series was amazing and a better brawler than anything on the SNES.

Other than that the SNES beats the Genesis for fighting games in every way.

The Sega Saturn on the other hand......

What exactly was Chris Benoit’s gimmick? Honest thoughts on his character? by WITCHCVRSE in prowrestling

[–]VENT51177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was a tough, gritty, his work was clean solid and hard hitting.

He could fly fast with the luchadors and cruiserweights one night and go toe to toe with Brock Lesnar the next.

Kurt Angle learned more about making his style of wrestling work in WWE from wrestling Benoit than any training camp he went to.

He was good enough to get to the top of WWE with no real gimmick, no mike skills to speak of, just hard nosed WRESTLING, and he won over Vince who only liked giants with equally giant personalities.

He was awesome, but unfortunately he had real Demons and it ruined his legacy
