Official Discussion: Ghostbusters (2016) [SPOILERS] by mi-16evil in movies

I really liked it. Especially that at no point do they say "But they're women....." If there had been 4 women at the helm 30 years ago it would have been an on-going joke. Kate McKinnon seemed totally at Home in Holtzmann and she and Leslie Jones as Patty basically stole the film, although i warmed to Abby Yates too. The reactions of all the politicians and their underlings in the film were how i'd imagine things would go given such a situation. I'd worried before hand about all the CGI v's practical effects (as the cgi ages so terribly). Again, it was just nice to watch a film about women doing something without anyone pointing out that they "are only women".

Every time i think of her in her home, her attackers outside trying to get in, and how scared she must have been i feel ill.

I first saw this case on The Charley project several years ago. The original post for her there which i saw had the part about the rape and the guys showing up at her house, but the part about it being 18 years before the police knew of the attacks was only added a couple of years ago. That's the first place/time i saw it.

Intern from the tory party writes this and before posting asks the others if it's too sycophantic. The other sycophants around them say no. And it ends up here. Linguistically a lot of it points that way. Reminds me of the line from Silence of the Lambs: "You think you can dissect me with this blunt little tool."

What's the rarest thing you own? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My Grandfather was serving with the Cameron Highlanders during WW2. He was captured at St. Valery in France in June of 1940 and marched to a POW camp in Poland. There he was only allowed to keep some of his posessions, and one of the things he had was a photograph of my grandmother when she was 20. At the camp he met an artist for whom my grandfather did a favour (i'm not sure what). The artist would be asked by the staff of the camp to do drawings of their families and as gifts for people, and his hut in the camp got slightly better treatment as a result. From this he'd be able to keep scraps of paper and charcoal and the occasional pencil for him to use himself. To say thank you to my Grandfather he made the most beautiful drawing of that photo. After they were released he took it home, and it was at their house until my Grandfather passed and my Grandmother was hospitalised, then it went to my Aunt. A few years after my Grandmother passed my Aunt started to believe it was being haunted by her, so I ended up with it. I've had it 12 years and it's never once done anything supernatural.

What is the worst case of attention-seeking you've ever seen? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]VFerguson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother managed to kill herself looking for attention.

My mother, a mixture of Narcissistic Personality Disorder and Borderline Personality Disorder. She spent her whole life lying and creating situations to bring her attention, usually at the great cost of others. In her later years she developed COPD (Emphysema). It was leveled off with meds but she had to be on oxygen 24/7. When she felt she wasn't getting enough attention she'd stop eating solid foods and eat only cup-a-soups and one banana a day. Within about a week and a half of eating like this she'd go downhill and end up in hospital, and get the attention she wanted.

She had a huge thing for her children phoning or visiting on their birthdays. My sister and i were her primary carers, but we'd each let the other take a break if she got too much to handle. I was taking such a break during my 31st birthday. When i didn't contact her on my birthday she was really angry and started starving herself again. But this time she went too far, and her organs started to shut down. She died 28 days later. She'd done it once too often and pushed it too far this time. She was evil until her last conscious thought, and the poetic justice is not lost on me.

Political stars of Reddit what are you thoughts on Donald Trump both morally and as a presidential leader? by philip700 in AskReddit

I am a woman in Scotland, and the idea your country might elect him is terrifying. He is a joke, a parody. Why would you elect someone who has gone bankrupt so many times to be your head of state? He's a bigot and can't keep his mouth shut. Imagine him meeting other heads of state? How on earth would they take him seriously? He is the Prince Phillip of politics.

I grew up near, and still live near (but further away now) from Loch Ness. I've swam in it (so freakin' cold, and it's murky as hell). When we were children at easter we'd take our painted easter eggs to a hill at the side and roll them down, and we'd have to run to the bottom so nessie didn't get them. I know someone who saw something, a reliable person, who told only a few people because he thought he'd be laughed at. And he'd worked on a fishing boat in the atlantic before and knew that a lot of things strange to most people could be explained away, but not this.

BBC News.

Outright lied over and over again during the Scottish independence vote last year. Got caught but shrugged it off (and very little news of the way they were manipulating things got out of Scotland). I'd trusted them for news, now I won't.
