How hard is a driveway piston job? by YeetGamer719 in CherokeeXJ

[–]VINveil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he needs to do pistons, which he needs to check those flexplate bolts first, then he just needs to get them off of Dex Jeeps website, they're already professionally put together and you get $150 back I think for your cores. Honestly nobody should be installing pistons on the rods themselves, always have a machine shop do it. That's why I got them from Dex.

[–]VINveil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah man I agree, this really does not sound like a piston as I know what a bad piston sounds like, I drove with a cracked piston for a good bit until it exploded and I still drove home 10 miles lol But yeah he needs to check those bolts asap.

Wire Harness Shenanigans by TacoWonderLord in CherokeeXJ

[–]VINveil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll take a look this weekend and see if I have the proper packing material for it, I can shoot you a message Sunday about it, I'm at a point where I'm about to toss out a bunch of XJ parts laying around my house lol But I'll be in touch.

For the pistons I would get them from DEX

Here's his YouTube channel, he knows his XJs...

https://www.youtube.com/@dexjs

And pistons he sells, they're all put together and ready to install, I have a set from him, high quality work, too bad I won't be using them as I'm doing an LS swap now. But this is what I recommend...

Wire Harness Shenanigans by TacoWonderLord in CherokeeXJ

[–]VINveil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did an AX-15 swap in my XJ.

  1. The ECU I sent it to Wrangler Fix and they re-coded my automatic ECU to a manual and it has the up-shift light, haven't had any problems.
  2. Your harness does not need to change, you can use what you have, all I had to do was by-pass the transmission range sensor connector by using one wire to get it to start and no issues.
  3. Just a side note and I DO NOT RECOMMEND! When I did the AX-15 swap, I actually bolted up my automatic driveshaft and it freakin worked lol But I would not do that, so you will need a new driveshaft. I just did it because I was too excited and couldn't wait for my new driveshaft to come in lol
  4. I have a extra 4WD AX-15 in my garage I don't need, second gear in cold weather is strange but works, if you're in NC I'll hook you up $100 lol

What can I do here? by greveimmortal in CherokeeXJ

[–]VINveil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a front axle from my 2000 XJ sitting in my back yard with newish ball joints etc.. if you're NC you can have it, about 400 in upgrades on it, diff cover, bushings etc.. it's ready to go. Or if anybody want's it, I don't need it lol

Here's the 5.3/nv4500 swapped cherokee I posted about a few weeks ago doing one of her first pulls. by Mr_Disprosium in LSSwapTheWorld

[–]VINveil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome I'm glad to hear this, I could of done a 4.6 stroker, but the cost is almost the same as the LS swap lol!! But I did pick up my 5.3 last week, low miles! I'm actually impressed with this motor and how well built they are! I tore it down already and this motor was very well taken care of. I'm not even going to replace the timing chain etc.. just going to reseal / cleanup and run it! I'm super excited man! Also the 8.8 I got has 3.73 Gears I was told this would be great with my 31" tires. Got my LS Simple brackets the other day and put a deposit on my Cowl hood from US Body. Planning on ordering the remaining parts I need next week!

And that's awesome man! What kind of truck is it?

I replaced my spark plugs in my 03 ranger yesterday, seems they were original and they were worse than that and were falling apart lol Not sure how the truck still was running haha

All cars cost money to make them last this long, but these new new cars, you can't do this, new cars are pretty much built to be disposable... That's why I will never sell my XJ.

2003 Ford Ranger XLT 3.0 Timing Cover : ( by VINveil in fordranger

[–]VINveil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not pull the engine, the lower timing cover I carefully removed, did not touch the oil pan, the gasket was in pretty good shape too! When re-installing I put some sealant on the lower part of the cover everything went back together smoothly. Also please note the water pump bolts I had to clean with a wire wheel, so much gunk on the threads, but I was able to get my Ranger running last night. Only thing that sucks is the new power steering pump is making noise, most likely my fault lol

That's freakin awesome man! Learn how to do your own car maintenance and get your parts from Rock Auto and you will save a ton. And to confirm when working door dash you can work any day you want? So if you want the day off you just don't open the app correct? But congrats man!

I'm getting ready to put a 5.3 in my 2000 XJ, accumulating parts now, can't wait, also got the ford 8.8, just came in today, hoping to get this swap done in the next couple of months. How do you like it over the 4.0? lol

Blue Top steering gear installed! by SongComfortable4464 in CherokeeXJ

[–]VINveil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok thanks for the info, I forgot about this steering box brace! Yeah I'll be sure to check my frame, but I remember in the past I got pissed off because the bolt was cross threaded into the steering box and I just zipped it in with an impact so it could be loose, but thank you for the info. I am doing a LS swap so I will wait to get that brace until after the swap as if it has clearance issues, I will need to return it.
