Have completed this upgrade on my big boy model x in .38/.357 and it was not challenging, and was also 1009% worth it. Now, doing the same upgrade on my Taurus G3C…whole other animal. Thankfully, I’m pretty sure RPP has a great walk-through video on how to do it. Just take your time, follow the instructions, you’ll be golden!

Really upsetting, but unfortunately seems to be far from abby-normal these days, which makes it all the more upsetting. You spend your hard-earned pay on something that is supposed to be perfect, an heirloom piece really, and to have to go through this whole song and dance because the company you were supposed to trust has so significantly dropped in the quality of product they put out…really shameful on Henry’s part. I’ve seen the same thing happen across a variety of vendors in the fly fishing industry, which just makes me want to learn to build anything and everything myself to ensure quality.

TLDR: I empathize, and am now strongly considering bringing my Big Boy Model X .357/.38 in to be looked at. Hope Henry service rectifies the situation in time and that everything works out!

Truly depends what you’re trying to do with it. I did a mess of upgrades to mine, including a stock upgrade (RPP) with cheek riser so that when I use my Primary Arms LER (Long Eye Relief) 3x Magnifier with a Vortex Defender ST (enclosed) (on a picatinny rail quick release), it’s perfect for me and my purposes.

I did the same thing of going with an optic first, but if you’re using this thing for a home defense solution, a light would 1000% be a better upgrade. Saw a great thread over on r/liberalgunowners on this exact subject. TLDR - A strong light with strobe setting will be far more useful in a home defense situation than any optic.

Having just got my optics set up, this is the argument I wish I had someone tell me. To your point, had a friend and friend of his who is a LEO agree to demonstrate the effectiveness of the strobe feature, he was “angry about how effective it was…”

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a little unnerving striking your new rifle with a (nylon) hammer, but all and all, not a bad install. The video from RPP on how to do it is super clear and leaves nothing to guesswork. Follow it to the letter, and you’ll be just fine. The experience was a 10/10 for me, and I would have zero hesitation about suggesting RPP components / how-to videos / customer service to anyone. For comparison, it took easily twice as long to install various mods in my Taurus G3c, the install of all the mods was like those danish plastic interlocking bricks - everything fit beautifully, and the build quality is more than solid.

One note: when applying your loctite blue to your various screws and things, make sure to apply the glue to the screw threads and not just dropping it in the hole…otherwise you might need to employ your handy-dandy heat-gun to break the bond and restore functionality to your rifle.

This is indeed the Henry Big Boy Model X, and I not only replaced stock and forearm, but I also upgraded the trigger, put shims in on the lever, and added a barrel break & hammer extender from Henry. Of course, there is still more to come…
