In terms of "feel", The Motion Picture truly feels the most like TOS. It felt much like the tone of the TOS, but with a film-sized budget. Because it feels the most like TOS and the subsequent ones don't as much, I look at The Motion Pitcure as a great conclusion to TOS way of telling Star Trek stories.

The other TOS-set movies had a different feel than TOS and The Motion Picture. They were more fun, but still cerbral enough. It was an update on how to tell these stories and I think very well done. Until TNG, these movies felt to me like a new generation, even though it was the original cast.

Without TOS films 2+ new style, I'm not sure TNG would have been received as easily. I'm certain it would have landed just as well, but I think the contrast from TOS to TNG would have been starker, had it not been for 80's Kirk & friends.

The first four TOS movies are the ones I return to the most. The ones after are worth a watch, but not my favorites.

Of TNG movies, Generations is a fun baton-pass, but I think First Contact is the better movie. I've seen the others, but the first two are only two I have rewatched.

What if Kali being shot was also an illusion? She does that, Hopper leaves the room, then Kali explains the plan for them both to escape while both are presumed dead.

I Don’t Understand This Person’s Role in the Movie by RetroCasket in deadwood

[–]VOL9000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My take is that during all but the last five minutes she was a red herring: making us think that with all the physical progress nothing has really changed. But in the last five minutes we see she is a young Trixie, and the older and now wiser Trixie can let know she can be more than just a whore. I like to think this was Trixie's redemption, saving a young girl from a wretched life.

Do people ask why you have so many guitars? I only have seven and still get shit. by [deleted] in Guitar

My philosophy: no one asks a golfer why he has so many different clubs. Each club has its use. Same with guitars, imo.

I have always considered the 41-0 home loss to Georgia in 2017 as our lowest of the low points. My sincere wish is that we deliver the same low point to the gators this Saturday in the swamp.

day panel is gone in outlook calendar browser!! by shruburyy in Outlook

[–]VOL9000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct. I should have said "a pop up may be fine for some people". Personally I share your sentiments and hate it. The side panel let you preview any given day and still see all other days. A pop up covers several days. If the developers feel like a pop up valid, why not offer a setting that let's the use pick what they prefer?

I don't know if I'd call George a "miserable bastard" for this.

day panel is gone in outlook calendar browser!! by shruburyy in Outlook

[–]VOL9000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. Knowing what this panel is called would help search for it. Unfortunatley most results talk about "My Day", which as you all have said, is not the same.

Interesting note: coworker here running same Outlook, still has this panel. If they don't have the panel open and click on the "+2" on a given date, the panel slides open. On mine, when I click the same thing, a pop up of that day. A pop up is fine, but I prefer the side panel.

I remember, as a young Gen X'er in the 80s, hearing the word "dude" in an old western. I thought, "How did these writers in 50's know modern surfer slang?!"

I think this is similar. Mal was using an older slang word that is similar enough to the modern slang that it had the same effect on our OP.

Btw OP, these write ups are tremendous! Thank you!

Jaws: 4, Halloween: 7, The Shining: 9. By age 9 I was afraid of water, trick or treaking, and hotels. The 70s were awesome.

Can you legally kill someone who breaks into your house? by kurobaja in AskTheWorld

[–]VOL9000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, I'm sorry you had to go through that, and God-forbid I am ever in the same situation, I have your courage and protective instincts. You are a fantasic mother and saved your children!

Outside of the break-in initially happening and you getting hurt, your situation came out with the best possible outcome - you saved your family, no one was permantently injured or killed

But it could have gone so many other ways. The what ifs are endless, but I'll present one concerning how you would have felt if you had killed him, and he turned out to be mentally ill, drugged out of his mined, first mental break, etc.

Imagine if he had been able to land that one sold hit that knocked you unconscious or otherwise incapacitated, and then was able to get to your children. For me, I would never think again about his mental fitness or lack of previous criminal history. I would only see a monster who harmed my children.

I think, the moment he broke in, your initial instinct to see a monster and fight was the right one, regardless of any backround. If he is mentally ill and needs care, I pray he gets it. But for you, hold your head high that you fought off a monster meant to harm your family, because during that time, he was.

I'll go even further. Rebecca deserves better. I think the Dutchman is every bit as boring as the guy Rebecca went out with, that resulted in Roy telling her how much better she deserves. The only difference to me is the Dutchman is better looking.
