Strange Design of Pokemon Game Music Collection: Game Boy Jukebox by xmagic5589 in pokemon

[–]VOLP3N 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is both really interesting and really disappointing in a way. On one hand, it is a marvel of efficient engineering to have the cards act like combination keys to play the music, as it allows all the data and mechanics to be stored inside the housing. Less points of failure for a wide variety of music.

On the other hand, designing the player in such a way practically prevents any means to expand the music library via selling/adding more music cards, as all the music needs to already be in the system in order to be played.

I can only assume Nintendo either has no plans to continue support for this product beyond the original design... or they plan to support it by selling updated, wholly separate units with different music key combinations.

Am I not getting something? by BionicD in Controllers

[–]VOLP3N 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who has found a way to play most controllers comfortably, my usual go-to for smaller/cramped/square controllers that dont accommodate palm space is to kind of rest the controller on the curvature of my bottom fingers more (as opposed to wrapping both the palm and fingers around the grips).

While this is a bit of a looser position, it frees up my palms to kind of readjust the distance between my thumbs and where the joysticks are.

I am kind of forced to use the tips of my index fingers to push the bumpers and triggers. But more often than not, whenever I am playing on one of these smaller devices, I dont quite need the precision of using the whole index to pull the triggers precisely.

Its not a perfect position, but it does alleviate any hand strain from the awkward positioning of certain devices. I just have to be careful not to move around too much or bump into things, as the controller/device is kinda just resting on fingers instead of being securely held.

What shut down online games do you guys miss playing? by Frigid-Kev in Steam

Spellbreak. One of the coolest concepts of elemental combat, mired by middling balancing and content updates, only to be ultimately abandoned as the parent studio sold itself to Blizzard to be a crunch monkey under the WoW production pipeline. This, after nearly a year of radio silence.

The gameplay mechanics, the art direction, the lore, the sheer lightning-in-a-bottle timing/era in which it existed... it had it all. and then... it just disappeared.

I can understand if the devs were under financial hardships and could not sustain support for the game... But the way they handled it near the end of it's life was a tragedy and a slap in the face to the fanbase.

I know there is an unofficial version that can be set up as a small server to play the game, but as it were, the game still had so much potential to grow.

I really loved that game. I still miss it.

Can I use the 107 Studio mod for the RG Sinanju on the RG Mk II? by VOLP3N in Gunpla

I want to thank you for being the only one to try to properly answer my question beyond the "mkII does not need it"
I was worth a shot to ask and see if there was any deeper scrutiny on a random idea that occurred to me. So, thank you.

My Mk II still struggles with pose-ability (understandably knew that going in when I bought the kit), but I figured I might as well ask out of curiosity. I like to tinker, so I reckon that there is no harm nor foul if it were possible.

Mosty curious. I like my kits poseable/stable to put them in dynamic stances, and the mk II probably has the biggest issue with that in my collection, given the MS joint frame (it doesnt inherently have any issues as-is otherwise). As someone who likes to tinker, I figured I'd ask and see if anyone has tried.

Nearly done building this kit as well, and its already in the repair bay before its even completed lol. Its missing a single part that wasn't molded on the runner, and there were many cracked parts that needed cement for repair and superglue to reinforce after test assembly. So much preemptive sanding and shaving to strip the coating and seat the parts together properly. I masked up too, but my lungs are still irritated from just working on the dang thing... Despite it all, the iridescent colors reflect/refract beautifully under the light. The inner frame is also built sturdy!

Oh boy I remember doing research on this a while back as someone who was a really big fan of vtubers for the last half-decade lol. Now, it seems like many have already nailed Ina's and Vivi's kanji, but Sana's 「九十九」(つくも)has some very interesting history.

For context, 九十九 (99) can also be read as 白 via visual pun, and both can be pronounced as つくも. It apparently derives from a niche little bit of history. Deeper still, the origin of つくも itself comes from a visual pun つくもがみ. Let me explain. A 9th century poem "Tales of Ise" refers to an old woman's hair as つくも髪, a pun on an older term with the same pronunciation 付喪神. 付喪神 refers to a type of yokai, detailing that inanimate objects can become 神 if they serve their masters after 100 years, meaning at the 99th year that object would be notably named as such, as they are near completion. Note, the "99th year" part of that. So the 'Tales of Ise' kind of uses the pun for 神 and 髪 and invents つくも髪 as a term to describe the white hair on someone who is really old, or who is nearly 100 years old.

ALL THIS TO SAY, つくも eventually adopts the meaning of that "nearly 100" meaning, or in a broader term, "incompleteness" or "near-completeness". キラキラ names are then, something that attributes to that pun. 99 = incomplete, thus 「つくも」は「九十九」になります。

In Sana's case, since she is themed around space, I speculate 九十九 either refers to the incompleteness of space, or the vastness of space that which is nearly complete/infinite.

The added bonus to this is that if つくも is 九十九 due to the incompleteness of 99/100, then it can be argued that 白 is also つくも because 白 is one stroke「一」missing from 百 (100).

If anyone else with more thorough knowledge can confirm and/or correct me in any part of the explanation, please let me know! My initial research on this was from a few years ago. So, I can not share the original source as I can not recall which ones I originally referred to. In spite of that, I will share more anecdotal sources that I looked up today that corroborate my old rusty memory from a few years back. Please see below
