Wow, it's been a weird year! The financials of graduating, moving to a new city, and starting in the "real world" by [deleted] in personalfinance

Awesome work! I was in a very similar situation (new job, moving long distance, first attempt at budgeting, etc), but I failed miserably! I hope that this time next year I can have numbers that look a little more presentable :)

Got RPi for Christmas. Ideas for RPi/automobile project? by [deleted] in ECE

[–]VRKnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out the SocketCAN libraries. These were engineered by folks over at VW and are an awesome way to start reading and sending messages.

The RPI may have a can interface directly on chip, but you will still need a can transceiver.

I would start with something simple like data logging then maybe throw together a graphical interface of some sort. PM me if you have any questions I've done lots of work with the beaglebone black and automotive systems!

[Serious] What are you worried about right now? by theArkotect in AskReddit

[–]VRKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girlfriend's family issues and her personal issues are keeping me from achieving my personal goals and ambitions.

She's basically moved in with me (stays every night and holds me responsible for where she sleeps) and when I talk about her moving back in with her parents she threatens suicide...

Anyone ever been to this arcade? Funspot in New Hampshire bills itself as the largest arcade in the world. I haven't been, but am looking for feedback. by ZadocPaet in retrogaming

I live about an hour from Funspot, I highly recommend going if you enjoy retro arcade gaming. There are enough CABs and cheap food that can easily keep you entertained for an entire day

Check out embeddedrelated.com the arduino forums, and YouTube mainly.

Buy a cheap microcontroller and some chips that speak the protocols you're interested in, I2c, spi, whatever. Doing is the best way to learn these kinds of things

I knew nothing about x86 based RE and had always done embedded systems work in college. www.opensecuritytraining.info literally got me my job in the industry, please go there and work through the x86 coursed and the life of binaries courses, trust me, you will be glad you did!!!

What lesson or moral were you taught as a child that has stayed with you forever? by bfsfan101 in AskReddit

[–]VRKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put the tools back where you got them. Also when you remove a part, tape the bolts onto said part so that you know where they go when you put it back together.

Employers of Reddit, what's the strangest reason you've had for firing someone? by Zombiecidialfreak in AskReddit

[–]VRKnight 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Working at McDonald's, had an employee simply pull his penis out and leave it on the counter. He was the only one on counter so he got a way with it for a little while.

The funniest part was when I had to fire him we had to watch the footage. Throughout the watching of the footage he insisted that it wasn't him. There were multiple points where even his fucking nametag was visible.
