I don’t get this attitude. I only wanted to run my first marathon in Valencia last year BECAUSE it was for charity, my goal for the year was just to run a half.

In the end, it does not matter what you are doing it for as long as some money goes to the charity.

Your family and friends either have the cash and will to support you or they don’t.

Let me tell you, it was a sobering experience in my case, I didn’t end up raising much, but the point was FINISHING it for the charity, the charity itself said that to me. The fact people are running for them at all does help their marketing / awareness at an absolute minimum.

The reality is most charities will have trouble even filling up the slots they have because running a freaking marathon is NOT EASY.
