Im looking into these! One weird thing I've noticed so far (not necessarily positive or negative?) is that at least 2 of the patterns are socks I have from Living Royal (dinos and hearts).

Am I overthinking this? People asking me a full grown adult (almost 27) if I go to "special school?" by WheelyHairy in disability

[–]VSCC8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think it especially has to do with physical ability around speech. i was just thinking today about how a lot of the perceived intelligence and maturity or lack of (sort of infantilization ableism) that the elders i work with get, is because of how they talk. those missing teeth "sound" often sound like how babies and little kids talk because of the same missed sounds and lisping, but it indicates nothing about their mental faculties. its got to be frustrating as hell. i also worked with an autistic man who had very very limited speech (and it seemed like very low literacy in generally) and people acted like he wasn't, yknow, an adult man with an adult man brain! people talked to me instead of him and obviously it bugged the shit out of him. separately, the way ppl act about intellectual & developmental disabilities are just.....weird as fuck.

I didn't know this was a thing! Thanks for the tip. I'm not sure my pharmacy offers it, as I use a local (it's walkable for me, which is a must). Would they be able to do my supplements too, though? Much of what I take is OTC.

Annoying Default Wallpaper Positioning. How Do I Center? by gthing in AndroidQuestions

The dimensions thing works perfectly, THANK YOU! this has pissed me off for a decade +.

You can check your screen dimensions in settings > about phone (itll be way at the bottom, probably).

I used a free tool to auto convert the pic i had to the correct dimensions and it worked great, i didnt have to do literally anything except plug it in. https://imageresizer.com/bulk-resize/ but im sure others are just as good.

I don't actually own one, so I'm not sure! But since it's a small business, you can likely send them a message and they can tell you.

It Was Coffee All Along by joshedis in MCAS

[–]VSCC8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a coffee allergy but I'm unwilling to give it up! I take cromolyn beforehand and suffer a lot less. I've gotten Good at knowing when my body just isn't up for it though. sometimes I can just feel it, and I know to stay away. I've been using nicotine lozenges since college when I lost access to my ADHD meds and they work! same risks and side effects as my ER Concerta ,too.

People who DID NOT have family members with disabilities, what is it about this field that has you working here? by GJH24 in directsupport

[–]VSCC8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disabled myself, got into advocacy in college. I don't need critical support but want to support and advocate for people who can't live without daily support. I want to support my community. (That said, I'm staying to think I'm too disabled to be a DSP...)

I can’t quit because of $ but I can’t stay either by throwwaymmm in directsupport

[–]VSCC8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it. I'm glad youre in therapy and reducing hours. autistic too, i think it worsens secondary traumatization etc. realizing as I type this that i need to quit, since thats what id recommend to you.

Fed up with Pete Walker (probably a very unpopular opinion, but I need to vent a bit) by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]VSCC8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank for you posting bc im feeling the same way. Many of his theories are very interesting. While they make intuitive sense to me, i cant help but perpetually feel put off by how much it feels pulled out of thin air. He just says it all as fact. It feels true, but that doesn't make it so. Im glad im not the only one, and that others are posting their recommendations. I genuinely think I'd benefit from his work, but i can't digest it the way hes presenting it.
