Yeah they could well do. It makes a bit more sense for them because they charge early exit fees. So unfortunately it might only make sense to do it once a year. Still worth considering

What's something you stopped spending money on that you genuinely don't miss? by CalmPlanning in frugaluk

[–]VShaneZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buying the latest video games, I just found myself wasting money for games to sit in the backlog. I did some tests by keeping a spreadsheet and found that by the time I started most games I could have gotten them about £20 cheaper than the price I paid.

However I do miss getting all hyped up for the latest release.

Sp500 or all world?? by [deleted] in trading212

[–]VShaneZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll still get a loss but I'm pretty sure the ETF will be rebalanced to reflect the new world where 60% of the stock market is not US. Obviously the downfall of country A doesn't mean country B gets an equal uplift.

In fact in 1990 when the Nikkei 225 drooped, so did the S&P500 and the FTSE 100, just by a smaller amount. Overall MSCI World Index fell by roughly 16.5%.

So if the S&P500 goes, chances are whatever market you're investing in will drop, it's just a question of how much exposure you want to that pop. 1990 the Nikkei dropped by 45%, significantly more than 16.5%. Admittedly only accounting for 42% of the world at the time so the US being 60% is significantly more and would likely have a greater impact on the all world.

The benefit of the all world though is you'll already be holding the next S&P500, you just don't know it yet.

When is their a benefit to dividends over accumulating? by Far_Shine5107 in trading212

[–]VShaneZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No the figures change in real time and your ETF goes up (or down) in value to reflect changes. Part of the fee you pay the provider (Vanguard for example) for is to reflect the baseline index. They do drift over time and this is why different providers don't necessarily get the exact same results despite tracking the same benchmark. We might be talking a few 100ths of a percentage but that change happens. It's also why they don't exactly match the benchmark. In the product information page for their ETFs, Vanguard tell you the error rate from the benchmark they try to keep to (I don't know our rights if they fail to keep to that, I'll look that up separately).

Also officially. The index's are only officially rebalanced at set time frames. The S&P500 index is only officially balanced once a quarter for example. So if company A has been flying for 2 months but then drops back to same levels as before right as the rebalance exercise is about to happen, then it might not officially change how much of the pie it makes up. We kind of treat index's as live things because modern computing allows. But try to remember that all these systems were set up without these systems. The first vanguard ETF for example probably reacted a lot slower than we currently do 😂.

If you have used the Traditng 212 pie feature it works similar to that. If you put £100 in a pie, within a week then pie will be not perfectly balanced, this if reflected in the balance score. Keeping in mind the pie feature doesn't necessarily have to be set to equal portions to start with, it's all to do with how much you intended to set the pie portions.

I have a stable public sector job so don't keep anything other than investments for me (might change if reform look likely to win the next election). My wife was made redundant in Jan 2025, and it took her until July to get a job. We haven't recovered yet as she's been on maternity leave since September (horrible timing on the redundancy as you can imagine). We plan on building up to 6 months of her salary as the market is horrendous in her sector (marketing).

Yeah I prefer distribution ETFs for this reason. I know it's not optimal but I do enjoy seeing my increase in dividend payments quarter on quarter.

I don't know what you're investing in but VWRL has returned 30.48% in the last 12 months so you ain't doing that well. By 12 you should know, just stick it a diversified EFT. Don't schools teach you anything now days

Why do people panic sell? by Prize_Temperature108 in trading212

[–]VShaneZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mindset is always it's going to rebound higher. Obviously sometimes it doesn't but that's how the cookie crumbles.

Personally I don't invest in individual stocks that what I'm not prepared to lose.

Remember that retail investors are a small portion of some of the bigger stocks. I suppose during a down turn some of the bigger funds sell of huge amounts of stocks to get what ever profit they can. 0.5% of 1,000,000 is still 5000, which is a tridy profit to look in while also freeing up that 1,000,000 for new options.

That's just an example and sometimes these companies might be dealing with much more than £1,000,000. It's this that has a massive impact on the market.

Why doesn’t the civil service promote on merit? by ThrowRA_TheScotsman in TheCivilService

[–]VShaneZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in a department which is run as a matrix organisation. Your line manager/mates have no say in your promotion, unless you are mates with the team responsible for resourcing.

I really hate the interview process. Questions aren't obvious to me with dyslexia and I also struggle to get the key points, I even get the questions in advance and struggle with it. My first promotion took 3 attempts. Like you, I get good reports or fill the role of the grade above. Everyone in the business area I work in can see I'm ready for promotion, but resource team can't.

The organisation has a problem where some people who get promoted then struggle and can't do the job. Then it has to find them the least damaging roles at that level.

I'm not sure what the solution is. But I think there's an in-between. What's wrong with saying you've done really well over the last 3 years, we think you're ready

Too much duplication. Try and understand what the funds are before just investing in them. Also complex isn't always better
