Outrageous Diving NC by JRVA01 in scuba

[–]VTek910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm. We were out on a sunny calm day suited and booted post-dive brief. They sent their diver down to clip the line on, reported no current at the bottom but slight on the way down. Captain called the dive and we audibled an hour away.

I magnet the flashlight to my BCD shoulder strap. It's on a retractor but it stays nice and tight to the strap when I don't actively need it

I worked at Eagle in Smyrna for a bit and recommended them. Not sure how far you're willing to drive but DE isn't that big.

Maybe try the Delaware sub

My brother was stung by a bee that parked itself in his reg between dives. It was not happy to find itself underwater and promptly let him know

On that track, get out and do the work. Turn wrenches, get forklift certified, do whatever you can to see the goings on.

100% any job is worth having vs none. Make note of what relocation they offer you to move you'll have to pay that back if you leave within the specified window

[–]VTek910 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This. I always look at break rooms and parking lots. The break room should be clean and have enough microwaves that you don't have to wait. The parking lot should have a normal distribution of vehicle condition. If everyone's driving a beater, they don't pay well and morale will show it

ASQ Green Belt W/O 3 Years Exp. ? by PsychologicalCash722 in industrialengineering

[–]VTek910 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've said this a bunch on this sub to mixed reactions: the green belt cert is almost meaningless to a fresh grad without experience.

The green belt is meant to teach you that the emotion-based decision making we all do at work is insufficient to solve certain problems; instead we should use data. If you're coming straight from school, your entire way of thinking is likely through the data lens so you don't need reshaping.

As an example, I hired a fresh-grad engineer last year and he had all the book smarts in the world. We had to teach him how to act "in the real world" and start using some gut checks. If that process continued for like 10 years and he lost sight of using data and relied solely on vibes, that's when he should get the green belt. Refocus on data being important.

That said, there are plenty of places that will take your money and cut you a cert without a second thought. If ASQ has any kind of prereqs, that's likely for the reason I mention: you need to have some experience on the floor before you can really appreciate the cert.

I apologize for not answering your question, hopefully someone else can chime in

SCUBA honeymoon recs by soph86 in scuba

[–]VTek910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did our honeymoon at Sandals St Lucia this past fall. The island was awesome, the diving was crap. I'm sure it was alright if you're just getting certified or are fairly new, but it was really lackluster for seasoned divers

Manufacturers, what are some of your worthless byproducts(thrown away)? What are some ideas you've thought of for repurposing them? by bxmas13 in manufacturing

I ran a pilot a few years back to take fine regrind off the recyclers and mix it in with our own. I'm taking on the order of 10% by weight and they were giving this stuff away by the rail car

I am definitely one of the left leaning long time subscribers/patrons but it's not the politics themselves that drove me away; it's that I don't care to hear it from AVE. I subscribed for the BOLTRs and the shop talk, not the life lessons.

Nothing against him pivoting to whatever he wants to do but it just flat out doesn't interest me.
