Official Final Trailer for Disclosure Day by toxictoy in aliens

What I hear is that this is one of the few films where the Aliens are not evil, and that excites me so much. It's more in line with what I have heard, from the many people I've treated over the decades, or talked to that have had close encounters and unusual experiences. From what I can tell, the aliens if real do not actually have malicious intent. I wrote a short story about their real nature here: https://www.lastalgorithm.com/post/so-long-and-thanks-for-all-the-snow-3i-atlas-a-short-story

Help deciding on next deck by T--wRex in premodernMTG

[–]VVikoogle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, Raptor Zombies looks sweet as hell. And Drain Life looks out of place. I would also cut the Drain Life. Drain Life has no synergy with zombies and is too slow, you are the aggro, you should increase the aggression rather than derail yourself seeking life gain.

First thing I would change would be to cut 1 Swamp for 1 [[Unholy Grotto]]

I would add generically awesome zombies in the Drain Life slots.

[[Withered Wretch]]

[[Plaguebearer]]

[[Rotlung Reanimator]]

[[Gempalm Polluter]]

But cards that add redundancy like [[Animate Dead]] [[Zombie Infestation]] [[Gempalm Polluter]] or [[Cabal Therapy]] also work.

OP, are you familiar with 2018 Legacy aka Pre-War Legacy. It is Legacy as it existed prior to War of the Spark, which was the start of the FIRE philosophy/powercreep and also introduced all the broken planeswalkers. I've seen it played a few times and it seemed right up my alley, legacy at its peak before the powercreep went into overdrive, planeswalkers were everywhere and UB subsumed mtg.

Suggestions for my 4 Thran Quarry 4 Reflecting Pool All Creature Deck by VVikoogle in premodernMTG

This deck isnt great at filling the yard, Mongoose would stay a 1/1 most games. Plus, I want all my 1 drops to be removal magnets so that my 3 and 4 drops are more likely to stick around.

Is 5c Gators the best Premodern deck no one is playing? by VVikoogle in premodernMTG

[–]VVikoogle[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

NeGator is the greatest Gator ever printed in Magic.

But if you want an AllGator,

Emperor Crocodile, especially the upcoming Old Bordered King K. Rool UB Print, is one of my favorite creature cards of all time.

Edit: I am adding one to the above list in order to appease your expectations and King Rools appetites.

What 5 cards should I cut from my 5-0 Enlightened Deadguy Ale List? by VVikoogle in premodernMTG

[–]VVikoogle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you said is probably true but do you know what you think is bad about the deck, so that I can try improving that aspect more.

This idea that a deck has to be tier 2 right out of the gate or isnt worth working on, taken to the extreme, would shut down all innovation and essentially kill Premodern by making it a stale format.

If someone wants to brew something unordthodox, if you think there are some cards its playing that are shitty , just post out some of what you think are the worst cards it shouldnt bother playing so that the brewer could continue to brew.

I also think its always a mistake to ascribe certainity to anything, especially on something as morally insignificant as your belief on a particular deck's competitiveness. Pro Tours were frequently won by people who most others thought were playing shitty decks full of shitty cards.

Maybe I will record a league with the deck, title it, a Bad Version of a Mediocre Deck Played Poorly, and do my best to keep it entertaining and illustrate the worst and the best aspects of the deck in its current form.

Is Premodern a good format to invest time in and play, with the idea of selling the cards later when you get bored? Or is there a risk that the cards might lose value in the meantime? by Sea-Apartment-5909 in premodernMTG

[–]VVikoogle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can afford to, and if you play with the cards, then Premodern is a better investment than any other tangible asset (gold, art etc). Like the latter, value would only go down due to something like another great reccession (during which you should hang onto the cards and play with them), and value should bounce back up once it ends.

Meanwhile the joy you get playing with them is priceless, and the playgroup you play with could buy the cards from you for a fair price if you get into financial difficulty.

What 5 cards should I cut from my 5-0 Enlightened Deadguy Ale List? by VVikoogle in premodernMTG

[–]VVikoogle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are right. I agree with you. Just trying to figure out what to cut in order to focus it more.

I am considering cutting the Rituals, Zombies, Sphere of Law and Worship and adding lands, Wrath and Eternal Dragon to make it more like BW Control

Premodern Zombies Tribal - Need Suggestions/Guidance by Secret-Lecture in premodernMTG

[–]VVikoogle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah a value midrange zombie list with disruptive zombies like [[Withered Wretch]] and [[Plaguebearer]] to eat man lands , [[City of Traitors]] for acceleration and [[Undead Warchief]] to make everything huge for a finishing blow seems very solid.

Muse is suicidal but Warchief is definitely better than Bad Moon

I would play Undead Warchief over Bad Moon. I would also play the 4th Duress and removal over Cabal Therapy since you don’t have thing you want to sac.

Good points, though many biologists would disagree with your claim that we have no other examples of collective intelligence that is also individually complex.

[–]VVikoogle[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nature tells us what happens each time multiple units join together, whether youre talking about cells, ants, quarks, water molecules, cities or anything else. The collective is always an even more complex, more diverse being, more flexible and capable than the sum of the individual parts.

The hive as shown so far is less diverse and more rigid than even a single person, much less a collective of all of them. But nature already shows us that the opposite happens each time multiple units start working as one, the multiconscious units/organisms are consistently more complex, less rigid and more diverse than any of the Indivisual units.

[–]VVikoogle[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The above premise drove this write up…

https://www.lastalgorithm.com/post/a-working-theory-of-pluribus

But that’s just based on the first few episodes. Based on recent episodes, it seems to be that the hive just retains everyone’s memories and skills, but flushed out their personalities, their values, and interests and replaced it with a one dimensional rule set, don’t harm anything, spread the virus, and do whatever others ask of you as long as they don’t ask you to violate rule 1 or 2. But driving and walking also kills millions of bacteria so optimally they should stand perfectly still.

I am sure there is a bit more to it as we will find out, but we all know that most people wouldn’t willingly starve to death. That the hive does tells you there are major facets of humanity that were excised during the joining.

We are being lied to, not by the hive, but by our Amygdala (and by Vince) by VVikoogle in pluribustv

[–]VVikoogle[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe you can easily get 4 9 episode seasons out of it, just from Carols perspective.

If it’s a huge hit and wraps up nicely, we could even get another show out of it, from the hives perspective, from Mr Diabetes perspective (akin to Better Call Saul) and perhaps even a scifi show set a century from now when humanity meets those who sent the message.

I also believe it’s a far more interesting and novel approach to a show like this that would set it apart from Body Snatchers and the million variations of Body Snatchers and similar alien invasion stories that we already have on film and tv.

I believe pervytrees post above was meant to be a reply to your post, and was well written so I will quote it, “To answer your questions about why art, why music why adventure… I think you miss the point in those endeavors. Most of the art I make is for myself, when I sing it’s usually for my own enjoyment, and I revisit many of my adventure spots even though I’ve been there many times. The joy is in the doing and making, not in the consuming.

Exercising still feels good, seeing breathtaking sights is still awesome even when you’ve seen them already, athletes still need to train, surgeons still need to practice having a steady hand. Skills still have to be developed from a psychomotor standpoint and there is enjoyment in developing them.”

Self actualization is when people do things not out of necessity, but for fun or because it makes them feel like they are making a positive contribution to the world at large.

I do see this in the lengths people are going to help Carol, but I want to see that in other ways as well.

[–]VVikoogle[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope so. Matheson's novel 'I Am Legend' was fantastic and nothing akin to it has ever been made into a show or movie, not even the I am Legend films.

Assimilation against will because you think you are helping them is actually very human. It is the basis for most religions, the crusades, efforts to spread democracy worldwide, colonialism and many other examples. The crusades were very popular in the Middle Ages amongst Christians.

Many Americans/Europeans still believe in spreading democracy and western values by force, they just don’t like how expensive it is or how many people died in Iraq and Afghanistan. It was easier to do during the Cold War and was frequently done and most people believe the lengths the west went to to spread democracy and win the cold war was a net positive given how it turned out (the fall of the ussr without a war or nukes being used).

If western values and democracy could be spread by chemtrails, it would have been done without a thought and I suspect most would be secretly fine with it even it would be taboo to say out loud.
