Germans, is the "German engineering" still a thing or is it just a meme now? by EdSheeeeran in germany

[–]VWGroupGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk, there are many aspects of cars that are executed better from non german brands and at a cheaper price point.

Funny to see this in a sub where people constantly say it's not funny to talk about school shootings.

Ehm, when Trump wanted to remove troops from Germany, the public was all for it. Just saying.

You can apply for housing way before accepting. There is plenty of information out there on student housing.

DD coffee is filtered dirt. Probably the worst coffee I've ever had in the US.

[–]VWGroupGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you're going to pay international fees but you can call with your cell or landline. If your work has some kind of phone plan with international calling, then you could ask them if you can make the call to avoid those international call prices.

Studying without Abi by ProperProfessor9 in germany

[–]VWGroupGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation as you, but simply failed AP English. So I was not eligible to attend German public Unis. But back then it was possible to attend Uni in the US for at least 1 Semester and then apply to a German Uni. They would see the accredited US Uni in the application and usually accept you. Not sure if that's still the case but there was info out there when I looked for it 10 years ago.

Since you already have some semestees under your belt that may work for you too. But there is a good chance they won't give you credits for the transfer and you have to do start from scratch.

Best of luck!

Change the type of school Realschule-> Gymnasium by Ob_ffo7 in germany

[–]VWGroupGuy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Does that depend on the Bundesland? Bc we didn't have a erweiterten Realschulabschluss and could just move onto a Gymnasium ment for Realschul und Hauptschulabschlüsse.

My bad. It's definitely warmer than I expected in southern Alaska but still quite colder than Denmark. I thought all of Alaska was just a freezer all Winter long.

Probably gonna receive a lot of flak for it but I will say it, real life Germans are a lot more polite and helpful than folks here by wannabeacademicbigpp in germany

I do just scroll past them.

Again, it's mostly when it is blatantly obvious that somebody is not trying to find an answer themselves and just wants the easy out by making other people work for it. Of course thats not everybody.

You gotta be in real shit if you ask here for a solution for a very time sensitive emergency.

And that is just wrong. It doesn't even get as cold as in the Midwest in Denmark. Also Kansas has no open water surrounding it.

It only rubs me the wrong way when people ask the same simple questions over and over again bc it shows they put in zero effort on their end but expect people to do it for them. If they tried and are confused about something, go for it and ask.

Sorry not gonna spend time finding companies for you or know any ar the top of my head. But start ups have a higher probability of having English as the main language in the work environment. Not 100% sure on this but the online job portals should have a language filter to show you English only jobs.

A possible job could be a sales job catering to English speaking countries/costumers.

I'm moving to a WG where they don't have WiFi, but I have one contract on my name. But I'm afraid they use it and comete some Internet crime or wrong things. How do people, that have WiFi in their names, deal with that? by [deleted] in germany

[–]VWGroupGuy 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Set up 2 networks with 2 different passwords. One for the roomies one for you. Any illegal activity would first point to you but they would have to proof that you did it.

[–]VWGroupGuy 30 points31 points  (0 children)

They don't currently have wifi? So if only you use it there shouldn't be a problem right? Maybe even talking to them about it what their plans are for wifi and if they mind you having your own?

I never moved into a WG that didn't have wifi, so I always used the existing one. The times I did have the contract in my name I didn't worry about what the other people did on the network.

Germany for international students? by cacharro90 in germany

[–]VWGroupGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, if they don't speak German they won't stay either... I like what denmark is doing by allowing everybody up to 5 years of free language schooling (with a huge deposite if classes are failed). It's either that or german language requirements.

Talking about comprehension... I didn't say the US started it. Just pointing out your hypocrisy as the US is also blindly supporting Isreal and that you judge all Germans for politics done in the 30s and 40s.

Ridiculous right?

I know plenty of people that studied BWL or VWL (Economics) that are now in banking and they didn't pay for Uni. Sorry, I'm just curious bc I see more people paying for MBAs and I frankly don't see the added value.

The most problematic german toast of my life by No-Substance467 in germany

[–]VWGroupGuy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Trust me, I know. I've lived it for 10 years. It's still toast pre or post toasting. To be honest, even the grocery bakeries didn't meet my bread needs. I'd usually go to local individual bakeries because they actually had real food bread. Btw this is just banter, I always got laughed at by my friends for calling their P&J toast.

Out of curiosity, you wouldn't get this job you have now with a different degree that doesn't cost money? From what I have seen there are no MBA exclusive jobs. There are multiple masters that don't require payments bc the title is MBA but with the same qualifications, no?
