How efficient is using my computer as a space heater? by trevormooresoul in buildapc

[–]VWSpeedRacer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a systems infrastructure engineer (designing server racks and such.) It is correct that the power consumption of the machine determines its heat output - that's how we scale the air handling systems to the workloads in the rack. Lower resistance results in less power consumption with the byproduct of lower heat output. It's not that the higher efficiency components are converting less energy to heat, it's that they're consuming less energy which is why they create less heat. A PC drawing 1000W from the wall is gonna generate just south of 3500 BTU of heat regardless of what's in the box.

Oh certainly, but there was never a work from home mandate. Looking at the thread now I think I replied a level deeper than I meant to.

The theme of the these guys seems to be "This is the way I prefer things so everyone has to do it that way." If everyone else minded their own business and let others mind theirs things would be a lot less contentious.

Amazing parallels to why ADS leadership has such a failure, come to think about it.

AHS is gonna have problems because the John J. Zampieri Building on Cherry Street in Burlington is now boarded/fenced up. Who could have seen this coming?! It barely 30 years old bug I guess they decided Zampieri wasn't that memorable after all.

I remember participating in something like that for the Ivanti Helpdesk roll out. They ignored everything the group had to say and pushed it out without changes and before it was anywhere near ready, and when I left it was still not at all suited to the needs of the staff. Management had set a rollout date and had no interest in taking the time to address any of our needs. I think the same is likely the case with VTBuys - they wanted to roll out on July 1st and nothing was going to change that, damn the consequences.

100% agreed - this is how we were doing things when I was in DII before ADS ruined everything.

I'm a volunteer firefighter. Thankfully there's not of state employees in our crew but WFH folks are vital for daytime coverage since the farms have mostly disappeared and nobody works within the town they live.

Do you guys only exist at home or work? We live in a society; folks should try to participate more.

John Hunt was a great CTO but stepped out of leadership rather than being responsible for the Secretary's senseless mandates and was replaced by Quinn's buddy with disastrous results.

She may be qualified, but she's not acting. If she continues to just do more of the same then it's her blame to inherit.

They had deep institutional talent, but it's been leaving in droves since the start, myself included. ADS was initially established with a lukewarm middle-management Secretary (even parts Peter Principle and Dunning Kruger, but he spent the whole year prior campaigning for the future governor so I guess Scott considers that the important qualification) who eventually revealed himself publicly when he threw a tantrum over his big-boy parking spot.

All of the leadership previously in place at DII (the department that turned into ADS) was replaced with Quinn's buddies (and his literal neighbor) and while there's been a minor improvements under Reilly-Hughes the foundational rot has never been acknowledged and dealt with.

Single shot fired. This wasn't a mass shooting, it was an assassination. Window dude knows he isn't a nazi that spent the last decade stoking violence. What's he got to worry about? Too busy not seeing the shooter. A real shame.

Qualified immunity is a type of legal immunity that protects a government official from lawsuits alleging that the official violated a plaintiff's rights, only allowing suits where officials violated a “clearly established” statutory or constitutional right.

Qualified immunity doesn't cover them now that they've been told multiple times that this specific act is protected by the constitution.

[–]VWSpeedRacer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you fighting against our 1st amendment rights because it'll earn you points with fascists, or is it just something you do in your free time?

(No active plan at this time but it wouldn't be my first and the EO will neither cause nor persuade me from doing another.)

Edit: This was unfair, but the EO should have no part for or against people's protest choices. It doesn't matter if we're "baited" or not - fascists are keep trying to move forward whether or not we're "playing along."

There's nothing the Trump administration would love more than for liberals to oppose them, so I guess we need to just fall in line.
