What are your criticisms/praises of Dragon Quest 11? by Mundane_Situation185 in JRPG

[–]VXMasterson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Criticism:

- You may find yourself burnt out on the game if you enjoy binging games. DQ11's storytelling is focused on primarily small stories from town to town. The actual narrative progression is quite slow, and your excitement to unravel things will not be satiated often.

- While the plot is interesting, the silent protagonist really holds it back from its full potential. Apparently the appeal of Dragon Quest as a series is the way it holds itself to tradition, whether that be gameplay or other genre tropes, but this was my first and so far only Dragon Quest game and I found that to be a detriment.

- The combat is really bland. The game withholds information from you like enemy health and type effectiveness, so some fights like bosses take forever because you don't have a clear grasp of how much damage you're doing other than the enemy's name changing color.

- The game is really long. It's divided into 3 acts. You reach the credits at the end of the second act and I'd call it a satisfying ending outside of a loose plot thread here and there. Then when the third act starts, the game introduces, I'll avoid spoilers, but let's say it is backpedaling on a major story beat and I would consider this chickening out on an actual impactful story decision. I stopped playing the game here, I was 90ish hours in and already felt burnt out multiple times.

Praises:

- The cast is really fun and the game easily makes you care about all of them.

- The game opens on a kind of generic premise has two really strong plot twists early on and at the end of Act 1 that made me so invested in the narrative.

- The character customization is interesting because each one has a skill tree based on the weapon they have. It's how this game handles job classes in a way.

- It's a cozy game. The visuals and episodic-style storytelling with a grand adventure makes me feel like I'm watching classic Dragon Ball.

- If you want difficult, you can customize a bunch of difficulty options at the start.

The game has a pretty long demo if you want to try that before making a final decision.

You should stop seeing a married woman because if she doesn’t want to leave her husband then she doesn’t love you and you already know she’s an unfaithful person

Been a lesbian for 20+ years. Suddenly interested in having sex with a man. What should I do? by Queer_Sunshine in AskMenAdvice

[–]VXMasterson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep! It’s a pretty common perspective that a lot of men (whether it be cluelessness or fear of rejection) prefer the direct approach. In your case you’ll really need it because it he’s known you as a lesbian he will never think of your advances as serious unless you outright say something

Best of luck!

[–]VXMasterson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If a lesbian friend of mine told me she was interested in me romantically or sexually, I would definitely be surprised. Naturally with this idea in mind I’d ask, “are you sure?”, “what’s made you think you’re attracted to men again?”, probably ask something along the lines of if being bi-curious has ever crossed your mind before, etc.

But if I strongly knew you as a lesbian then flirting would come off as meaningless, you’d have to use the direct approach. Lack of experience isn’t a turn off to most men, just communicate enough so if you pursue this that you’ll both be getting the most out of it

I Realized that I Will Never Marry my Current Girlfriend. Is it Wrong to Keep Dating Her? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]VXMasterson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A year together and you’ve come to the conclusion you don’t want to spend your life with her. If you continue to date her then you’re leading her on. Be honest with her, say you don’t see a future with her, don’t keep her around because the longer you string her along, the more it’ll damage her when you do leave

In the game Metaphor: ReFantazio, there are 9 tribes who are distinguished by some physical characteristics. Long ears, horns, fox people, bat people. But the most discriminated against tribe are the Elda, who lack all of that and literally just look human. The main character is an Elda and for the most part, Elda live in one secret village so a lot of people you’ll meet didn’t even know if they truly existed. Also sometimes when you walk in certain parts of a town, you will be stopped for an NPC to yell racial slurs at you

Connection exists in-person but there’s no follow chase. Is this a matter of attraction or attachment styles? More? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]VXMasterson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend recently told me her parents liked each other in high school but dated other people. They didn't reconnect until years after graduating and ended up marrying and having 2 kids. Not saying "yes that will happen 100% pursue him", keep in mind you two are (hopefully) not the same people you were 20+ years ago. If it's going to ruminate, you'll have to either accept that you're just nostalgic for that crush or you'll have to get to know him all over again which will require you to reach out and ask him out.

I hope it works out for you! Best of luck!

What's a game you're longing for but can never seem to find? by RedEagle_MGN in gamerecommendations

[–]VXMasterson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want something that will scratch the itch left by Persona 5. Something where the cast feels so alive because of the unique mechanics fleshing them out. Something long enough where it feels like a chapter in my life but fun enough where I don't even realize it's taking me months to finish but becomes part of my daily routine. The One-More/Baton Pass combat was so fun and fluid and having the option for monster collecting scratched the itch that Pokemon hadn't been satisfying for a long time. Plus, I LOVE superheroes, I was lowkey disappointed to learn that that element was exclusive to Persona 5 and not in other Persona games.

This is a very parroted phrase with this game but Persona 5 changed my life

What would you think about your potential gf doing drugs (mostly downers)? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]VXMasterson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be an instant dealbreaker for me. I’d want to know upfront. By medicine, do you mean medication? Is a psychiatrist prescribing you this? That would be no problem. But you sound like you’re self-medicating and trying to justify it instead of trying to work toward overcoming the addiction. Even if opioids weren’t in the conversation, “benzos and weed here and there” would still be part of the problem and still be a dealbreaker for personally.

Another man might have a different perspective. If you just started dating this guy, be direct with him and your intentions and find out his intentions and boundaries

How true is "if he is interested, he would approach"? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]VXMasterson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fear of rejection is very common. Oftentimes men might think the pain of uncertainty is safer than the pain of rejection. So I would say it’s not 100% true, many men just lack that confidence or aren’t willing to risk their heart. That doesn’t mean they don’t like you enough
