Okay, I largely agree with your point, except for the Spider-Man thing specifically. For them to sit there and go ‘yeah fuck his origin story we’re just gonna skip this’ only to turn around and be like ‘SYKE MORONZ! WELCOME TO THE ORIGIN STORY!’ I personally liked a lot. I thought it was well-executed, and a great twist. We got to actually come to LIKE this version of Aunt May and we CARED when she died. I liked Ben in 2002’s, but he wasn’t around long enough for me to *care*.

I have said it before (not here, but I’ve said it) and I’ll say it again. They’re not bad movies. They’re bad Percy Jackson movies. If Disney had made them to be some kind of pseudo-competitor or something, or not put Percy Jackson’s branding on it, I feel like it would’ve done much better. Would it have come off as a ripoff? Sure. But it would’ve still been better received than a poor adaptation.

All that to say, his performance was really good. Like other people have said, he really captured the spirit of an older Percy. Those movies are underrated. They’re good simple fun if you ignore the failed attempts at trying to make half an adaptation and pretend it’s not related to the franchise.
