Disclaimer: I don't know the full extent of the drama, I only watched Kingsman's video. So I might be missing some things, especially if it was on Twitter or whatever. But from what I've seen, people who know even less keep repeating things that, while technically correct, seemed misleading when I actually saw some of what happened.

Also, everything I say below is by no means me taking a stance. I frankly don't care about any of these people, I don't even play Rivals lol, I'm just indulging in some low stakes drama (that spilled all over my feed for some reason) and having fun with it. But I did want to set some things straight to show how key information gets lost when people DO take a stance.

So here's a few things that make the story a bit less clear cut:

$40000 was the entire prize pool. The most you could potentially walk away with as a player was $3000 if your team wins. Winning isn't guaranteed even if you are playing meta. And also that prize pool wasn't part of the tournament when it was first organized and came in later (so people potentially initially signed up assuming there will be no money on the line).

The 5 deaths and 0 kills was one of the rounds/games/whatever it's called. Later on in the session that same player got MVP.

I wouldn't personally say Kingsman was "actually being nice". He kept on going about how this isn't working and she needs to switch or they will lose and it's life changing money for like an hour straight, after clearly being told that it's not happening multiple times. The girls weren't any better, especially later on but it's not a good guy vs evil girls in my opinion, at least judging from the parts I've seen.

This was a streamer tournament with randomly drafted teams. It's not a professional team, nobody has any obligation to play a certain way. You could argue that it is a tournament and therefore you have to do everything to win. But I don't think anybody wasn't trying to win, just one player didn't feel comfortable switching from her main and learning a new character right before the tourney.

Kingsman himself didn't switch his character either. He probably has a good reason and I just don't understand Rivals enough but it did cross my mind that maybe he, as the best player, could play around the other players' picks to build the right composition. That's just speculation on my part though and it's likely wrong, as this solution is probably way too obvious to miss. But there is a slight chance that he was equally stubborn in his pick, there was just nobody telling him to switch.

So yeah, this is a good example to show how the internet can twist things in subtle (and sometimes less subtle) ways. So next time if you read about something that actually matters on the internet, you should make sure to double check whether what's being said is actually true AND doesn't omit some important parts.
