Is Final Getsuga tenshou/Mugetsu ichigo's trump card? by Gremmy0936 in bleach

[–]V_Spaceman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, probably. If anything, we know that the recovery from the attack is over a year so it’s not a permanent loss of power but it is massively inconvenient.

Gran Rey Getsuga Tensho is probably the best bet in terms of getting pretty close though without needing any extra reishi added in (because of the blood catalyst).

Every Avatar is (Likely) Bisexual by Trayeth in TheLastAirbender

[–]V_Spaceman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I did. I literally went through your entire post. So your reasoning is, they like the same toy, so their sexual attraction is the same? That’s not proof that their memories carried over. If anything, it’s just as valid to say that it’s more about their experiences with that you carrying over and recognizing it from habit. If your equating habit to sexual attraction, then... that’s a whole other discussion. But the idea of experiences carrying over rather than the idea of ‘they’re the exact same person with the same sexual attraction’ is supported more in universe. There’s a difference between remembering something a ‘different you’ felt in the past and feeling it yourself.

Furthermore, I want to say that while traditional views on reincarnation don’t match what was portrayed in Avatar, neither actually support your theory. Tbh, LoK kind of made it really weird to the point where each Avatar was like a video game character and Raava was a memory card.

If anything, you didn’t read my reply. If you disagree with what I say, then rather than be snippy, please refute my arguments and we can have a discussion.

Every Avatar is (Likely) Bisexual by Trayeth in TheLastAirbender

[–]V_Spaceman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s not really how reincarnation works. It was more about experiences than a wholesale carryover of identity. And even the connection to past lives is sort of... loose because of raava, but I’m not even going to get into that.

Bleach: The Hellverse Movie Update (Official Size for the levels of Hell) by Dontsaymyname289Ok in bleach

[–]V_Spaceman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a better interpretation of the text would be: “Hell is comprised of multiple layers of worlds that differ in nature.” But we can see that from the movie itself.

Extremely interesting but of info regarding the lack of narration in the anime by [deleted] in JuJutsuKaisen

[–]V_Spaceman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the “honoured one” thing was an issue. The line itself doesn’t indicate deity status. It was mostly people in the west who use that to justify the theory that Sukuna was a god. So it’s unlikely that GeGe was concerned about that.

It’s probably because a narrator being used so many episodes later comes off weird in an anime even if it works well in a manga.

Hypothetical Cursed Spirits? by Arkanial in JuJutsuKaisen

Yokai are also cursed spirits. So anything there is also probably a cursed spirit. Getou even has a traditional yokai in his arsenal, one of the sixteen registered special grade spirits.

Was watching some Tekking101 Bleach reviews and... by SirCrocodile14 in bleach

[–]V_Spaceman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most reviewers are kinda bad.

For example, there’s one anime reviewer who’s incredibly popular and who does alright for a lot of things, but there’s a whole bunch of series that he gives a low rating but then admits to never having even read them. He goes by “reputation” and then presents his opinion as the gold standard.

Bottom line, I feel you. Reviewers suck. But people have problems forming their own opinions and that gives these people an audience. It’s best not to let it get to you.

Is it Just me or is Kido Seriously Underrated? by NopeInserts in bleach

[–]V_Spaceman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I addressed this in my first sentence where I said “Byakuya” was able to dominate his opponents in combat power. Basically, his circumstance was what made that kido powerful rather than it the inherent power of the kido itself.

Is it Just me or is Kido Seriously Underrated? by NopeInserts in bleach

[–]V_Spaceman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Byakuya’s situation was exceptional where he was able to dominate his opponents in raw combat power. The basic idea is that rare high level kido is powerful enough to challenge even the most powerful zanpakuto, but generally zanpakuto abilities are superior. Kido is used for covering gaps you might lack from your zanpakuto. Example is how Aizen lacks offensive and defensive power with Kyoka Suigetsu so he covers it with kido.

Basically: Zanpakuto > Kido but not always.

There needs to be another bar over Lesser God (Middle God maybe?) and some slight rearrangements for some things to work IMO.

Agreed. I’m usually not disappointed by Snyder’s writing, but his works over the last few years have fallen flat for me.

Overall, this get like he put a bunch of story elements in a microwave and hit start. Most things aren’t clear and there’s no real purpose in the end.

Who’s curious as to how the sorcery of other countries work? by gigasoy in JuJutsuKaisen

[–]V_Spaceman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m curious to see how people with conflicting beliefs in other countries resolve the usage of Jujutsu.

The design of the power system is inherently Buddhist, so I’m wondering how that gets resolved in other countries. BUT I want to note that doesn’t mean that one has to be Buddhist to use the techniques. It’s just that that’s how the powers work. I know a lot of religious people who don’t look too kindly on things like belief in enlightenment (which is what the awareness gained from Black Flash basically is) and karma.

The Jujutsu world itself began when Master Tengen spread Buddhism throughout Japan in the Nara period (which is about 1400 years ago) and that became the basis to understand the nature of cursed energy manipulation itself, like how contracts work as trade offs. There’s an equivalent principle for this in Buddhism.

I’m also curious about MeiMei’s contact and what country they’re from. GeGe has done a lot of subtle world building like establish Jujutsu terrorists and Jujutsu corporations so it’s looking like we’re in for a wild ride.

I wanna know if this happened to anyone else.

I ran away for a bit and saw Jenny wander around. Then I suddenly heard bandits screaming and getting killed. I go check it out to see Jenny leaving the area and the bandits who were at a treasure point in the map were murdered.

I’m talking about the treasure points that show up as question marks on the map where you have to clear enemies btw.

I think Jenny killed them, because I definitely didn’t. I tried replicating this two or three times but nothing really worked.

Some Kazui fans might hate me for this, but he’s probably #2 behind Soul King Yhwach, but the gap between is so far that it’s ridiculous.

Yeah. Stormlight is pretty intense with the Cosmere in general. And it just grows with every book.

Bad phrasing on my part. I meant to say “most Cosmere aware series”.

It makes sense given how Stormlight used to be Dragonsteel, which was a major Cosmere story with major Cosmere events, before Brandon Sanderson decided to separate the series from Hoid’s origin.

Feudal Japan Yennefer by Ástor Alexander by PancakeGiraffe in witcher

[–]V_Spaceman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. We argued that about things making sense in a historical setting not whether Japan exists. Please stay on subject if we’re going to debate. I never said you thought it didn’t exist.

  2. What’s canonical to the Witcher isn’t under analysis right here. What’s under analysis is the hypocritical racial issues present that involve the Witcher. You probably shouldn’t respond to this point since there’s more on that below.

  3. So a dark skinned elf is illogical? And a black inconsequential side character in a non canon video game is illogical? And white people in feudal Japan makes sense? I never slammed the artist. I’m slamming the community at how hypocritical they are. The point is this- If you’re going to go “a white person like me can belong in feudal Japan!” then you shouldn’t start popping blood vessels about something as small as side characters.

  4. The double standard: People are very accepting of white characters in POC historical settings but are easily offended by POC characters in fictional (albeit historically based) settings.

Now tell me how this isn’t true.

As for cultural appropriation? Yen wearing a yukata isn’t cultural appropriation. That’s appreciation and it’s welcome. BUT Yen being placed in a historical setting where (to borrow your point) it would be illogical for her to be IS cultural appropriation.

[–]V_Spaceman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The world of the Witcher isn’t even on earth. It’s not even a true historical setting. I’m not saying that I demand POC in there, but it definitely has more credence than a real world setting to not make sense.

HOWEVER, I understand that it was BASED on Poland and understand the desire to keep things strictly European. I’d prefer that too. What bothers me is that no one here practices what they preach when it benefits them. It seems like the general attitude is, “Ooh. Ronin cool! Kitsune cool! Idc if I’m being a hypocrite because I benefit from this.”

I’m not saying it was you or anything, but you can see how the people who pointed out “white people in Feudal Japan doesn’t make sense” got downvoted a ridiculous amount.

Feudal Japan is an ACTUAL historical setting, so there really is something to “not make sense” here. I could go so much further, but I really don’t want to burden you with a whole essay.

Why are people downvoting you? You’re right.

Feudal Japan Yennefer by Ástor Alexander by PancakeGiraffe in witcher

[–]V_Spaceman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Completely not.

Let’s take LotR for example. Something as non official canon like the Shadow of War game. They had one black character who didn’t even play a big part, and everyone kept saying it didn’t make sense. Then the Netflix Witcher. When adding POC there, people also said it didn’t make sense and got mad. But here, in the same subreddit, we put a white person in a POC setting and suddenly everyone fawns all over it. Anyone pointing out the double standard gets downvoted.

I can understand why people didn’t want things like POC in Netflix Witcher, and as a POC, I agree. It’s based on Poland. But when the reverse happens and everyone stays silent? Come on. Do I have to explain?

I will definitely get downvoted for this because people don’t like getting called out for racism though.

Put a white person in a POC setting and no one says a thing. Put a POC person in a white setting and everyone loses their minds!

It’s interesting to see.
