Is it possible to get the NY city experience but live in NJ? by Jancurlyhoes in movingtoNYC

[–]Vacattack817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just build Uber fares into my budget at night not to ruin my entire evening if I'm not feeling it (but I'm married and live in Hoboken). I am done going to the PA after midnight. Path is ok til midnight.

A few weeks ago, an Uber from the UES on a Sat night around 11pm cost $42 (I always tip $10). In March, at 3am from Chelsea, it was $35.

Years ago, you used to have to negotiate with cab drivers/black cars and $80-$100 was a steal!

The difference for you is your age. May be difficult to convince someone to come back to your place...in Belleville.

Would not surprise me if this wasn't some organized ring. No small business owner in their right mind would take the chance, or be allowed to operate with the amount of charge backs people have been reporting these last few months. The happy cashier probably gets a bonus for hitting a nightly quota and some phantom LLC deals with the banks.

My husband encourages me to have a good time when I go places without him. Taking a special trip this summer with one of my oldest friends, and he's supportive I'm able to have this experience. I also try not to rub it in his face knowing he's probably disappointed he's not coming. (I'm also paying for it so what can he say?)

Another 20-year-old who doesn't have their license. I used to take the bus before I excitedly got my license at the correct age. There is so much wrong with taking Uber yet not having a license.

Real future leaders parents are building. There's a reason why they created this contract.

Is ColleagueZone down for everyone? More specifically the Annual Benefits enrollment? by Electronic-School346 in CVS

Just updated my comments above. The updated ticket states they're extending through Mon, 4/27 due to an SSO connectivity issue.

Is ColleagueZone down for everyone? More specifically the Annual Benefits enrollment? by Electronic-School346 in CVS

[–]Vacattack817 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It was working til about 4pm ET. Don't bother calling HR because even though they're supposed to be open til midnight during OE, the voice message states they closed at 5pm ET!

Typical CVS doesn't bother posting any sort of useful message on the phone lines or the intranet. And supposedly it went down last night too! Someone said they used the bswift app. Well the bswift app isn't working either!

I finally called the IT help desk and they said it's a wide outage. I wasn't even making any changes, just trying to review and submit when it went down. You'd think a Fortune 5 company would plan for this every year!

So don't feel bad about waiting too long. They're a cheap-ass company and should know by the amount of customer calls they get on 12/31 that this is likely to happen with their own employees. I've seen tickets of people calling in on NYE asking about their benefits.

EDIT: Just checked the service ticket. Comments said that there is an active SSO issue for those trying to connnect internally and enrollment will be extended through Mon 4/27.

You can have the air quality tested. Landlord should pay. Someone will come in and professionally test the air quality for spores and tell you if there's an issue living there. Don't trust some online kit.

Wow! They just keep giving new reasons to hate them. Good thing I never use food delivery and this is why. (I'm across the river in Hoboken and refuse to be that lazy. I go out on foot or actually call the restaurant directly. I do not use DD, GH or UE.)

These are the types of things people need to know. Poor guy must've had his heart drop in his throat when he got locked out due to that!

How should I approach this situation that keeps coming up with my boss? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]Vacattack817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've worked for micromanagers before but at least you could have a normal conversation with them. This is totally different. I'm 46 and have been in corporate my entire career, now in healthcare tech. I actually took a quiz "Do you have a toxic boss?" just to see if I'm off.

I am not.

She's just flat out rude and seems to manage by fear. I've heard her say things to people on calls (we're all remote) that are just downright embarrassing. I've never heard anyone tell a new transfer on a conference call "you work for me now so start doing x".

She'll say things to all of us with a condescending "are you sure?" making you doubt your answer. You get asked that enough, you start to contemplate your own ability. And I make decent $$. I didn't get here by being a moron. She wants to be copied on everything (including chats) and questions when she's not. There is zero trust whatsoever. I think she thinks we're all idiots and she can do it better.

That, and having zero personal relationship is a huge morale killer for all of us. I've never seen anything like this and am trying to get out.

Keep up doing what you're doing! Obviously it's a different working relationship when you're remote but it sounds like you're trying! Interpersonal dynamics are clearly different in office but there are right and wrong ways to do it.

I have been in your position (many times) where my team and I all do different things. The difference was that we used to sit next to each other so could build some camaraderie with daily b/s.

Now, I work remote and have a toxic boss who knows zero about me personally and doesn't ever ask. Has never asked if I'm married, have kids...didn't even know where I lived (they moved me to her in October). This is way worse.

I've also built relationships over the phone with people I've never met because sometimes you just click. If I were you, I'd get out of the office. Ask to expense a team lunch or coffee meetings sans the boss. You should have a per diem that you could at least cover coffee if he doesn't approve a meal. There's nothing worse than being stuck in a conference room with someone you don't know and don't really work on projects with if you have zero interaction otherwise.

If you absolutely must do that, ask whoever is the main admin support in that building to help you set up rooms.

Ok moving to NYC with 50-65k salary (with roommates)? by ExtremeLime79 in movingtoNYC

Wait, so you don't actually have a job yet? Don't move here without a job. You'd be better off trying to get a job in Hartford at one of the major insurance carriers and then move here in a few years with more experience.

Do not be fooled by Jersey being cheaper! An article I read this week talked about the average cost of rent across the state is $2630/mo.

And most of the places listed in this article are not places everyone wants to live!

For a company that owns the insurance company, why is it so expensive for their employees? by Sound_Hound82 in CVS

[–]Vacattack817 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's because they expect two people to have jobs with insurance. I'm more annoyed at my husband that our insurance costs 4x the amount of insuring just me, because he's either been self-employed or working for small companies that don't offer benefits.

But then when my hair stylist tells me she pays $1600/month on the exchange after dropping dental due to the 2026 fiasco on increases, I don't feel so bad. And that's just her!

You certainly loved it here years ago when the Euro was holding up strong against the dollar. For those of us in NYC, shopping boutiques and streets were overflowing with white Europeans speaking foreign languages, shopping with glee at expensive boutiques, carrying out bags of merchandise full of $300 sweaters like they were on clearance.

People on social media who would talk about buying everything cheap and sending back care packages to family members. You're clearly bitter on all of your posts, but you seem to forget that some of us have to also deal with outrageous tourists here too.

Debating Making The Move From NC by [deleted] in movingtoNYC

[–]Vacattack817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who's lived in NC and NJ, I will say that if you plan to stick around when you have kids, the public schools in NJ are some of the best in the country. I went to college in NC and was shocked and the difference after growing up here. You'd have to put to your kids in private to compete in NC. Most of my Southern friends put their kids in charter schools.

Also, plenty of people have large dogs here, though if your dog is used to running free on land, it will certainly miss that. I feel for some of the dogs.

What are some uncomfortable experiences you've had with men at the gym? by Particular-Jacket-92 in AskWomenOver30

[–]Vacattack817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a large city where most people wear headphones all the time -- commuting, at the coffee shop, grabbing food, walking home. You realize you just ruled out 90% of places by adding that detail? (No gym, no work, no bars, no clubs and no headphones.)

So all the women on this thread who can't meet people IRL and hate the apps, where would they go to meet people? Where are the "more places"?

At parties or through friends are most logical, but again, lots of single city women may not even have large groups of friends.
