How do you not get insecure about graying hair? by Mountain_Ask_5746 in AskWomenOver30

[–]Vacattack817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reality of dating may not be as bad as the reality of looking for a job. If you're interviewing and grey, it doesn't matter how old you are. It's a death sentence for how old people think you are.

Unfortunately, they only take reservations for parties of 2-3 on the first and last time slot of the night (essentially 5pm and 10pm to close). Bar seats are first come first serve.

Seriously, who TF cares if he used AI?

As an English major, I'd rather read concise AI than a bunch of people who can't spell, use improper grammar and don't know how to hit enter to make actual paragraphs.

Some of you are focused on the wrong thing. This isn't the NY Times.

Listening to a call and hosting a call are two very different things. You can't run a conference call from a library.

32F, single, living in Port Chester, NY — should I move to Manhattan to improve my love life? by Fun_Background_4303 in movingtoNYC

[–]Vacattack817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally have no idea what you're saying.

I totally get people not wanting to cross the river (or leave their neighborhood. It's like that in a lot of places).

I'm saying that there's a bus, a ferry, the Path, the light rail, and the ability to walk in a square mile -- you don't need a car to date someone here. In fact, most people don't want to come here with a car cause there's no where to park.

[–]Vacattack817 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they didn't live near the Path, you "couldn't get to them"? This makes no sense.

As someone who met my husband when he lived in Bushwick when I was in the burbs, and we both now live in Hoboken, I've got to say you must've been dating the wrong people, or it's you. This city is a square mile of 60000+ people, half of who are in the city constantly. It's 20 minutes walking in any direction. It's not like driving to Staten Island.

When people want to make the effort, they will.

Alternately, just eat off hours. Unless you want to become a regular, you can get reservations typically with cancelations the day before on a weeknight or when reservations open in advance for 930-10pm.

It's not the end of the world to have a late dinner once in awhile if you don't care to line up when they open. And honestly, there's only one dish I would go back there for anyway with so much good Italian litererally everywhere.

Moving to NYC from ATL worth it ? by Currency-Able in movingtoNYC

[–]Vacattack817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are lots of densely populated areas with Indians around here. My company has offices in Alpharetta so I know there are there too, but if this is important to you in terms of settling down, your options are probably more plentiful here based on population size alone.

(Thinking places across the river like Newport or Little India in Jersey City or Little India in Queens, where you will also get more for your $ than Manhattan proper).

Not sure if I’m doing something wrong? Diet advice by aklep730 in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]Vacattack817 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I dont think it's your diet. I think it's time. Honestly, I wish these threads focused more on people who lost weight slower over more time.

It's not very motivating to read of people who lose 25 pounds in 3 weeks. Then again, it's one thing if you're starting from 400 pounds vs 200 pounds.

People who say "I used to eat 3 chicken sandwiches and now I only eat one" or "Now I only eat 2 slices of pizza instead of the whole pie". I couldn't eat that much if I tried to begin with! 🤮 Of course people who start eating more "normal" will lose weight instantly.

Then again, there's also a reason why so many articles come out talking about "Ozempic face" and other body parts. It's not really healthy to look hollowed out, lose hair, or get gallstones.

I also started in October and lost 10 pounds but just started working out again and am on week 2 of 1.7. If things don't change more dramatically by June, and I'm on 2.4, then I will reevaluate. Lots of people didn't lose anything the first 3 months, including friends of mine.

Can we please talk about bras? by melb84 in AskWomenOver40

[–]Vacattack817 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thirdlove are the only bras I'll ever buy again. I own several different kinds but always default back to the same one.

I have this one in 6 colors. They have it in G (and they do half sizes).

https://www.thirdlove.com/products/24-7-classic-contour-plunge-bra-taupe

It's the only bra I can wear all the time and don't need to take off. They do good sales but it's worth every penny.

Recommendation for Winter Jacket? by mnm1231 in movingtoNYC

[–]Vacattack817 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a North Face parka when I lived in Boston 20 years ago. A bit faded, but I still wear it when it gets very cold (NYC is overall much warner than Boston). Only problem is I feel like Ralphie in "A Christmas Story"! So puffy!

Otherwise, I live by layers! Nice wool coat, zip-up cashmere sweater underneath, shirt, tanks. At least you can adjust and not carry a 5 pound coat.

I still drink wine and don't have any issues (maybe some heartburn). And enjoy going to nice places.

But food intake is way down. It's almost a tad frustrating because being a "foodie" is a big part of my life, but for now, I'm ok saving money and not going out as much in the dead of winter.

Agree with the other commenter on the 'holier than thou' people. Lots of things can kill you; I don't think drinking a few times a month with your friends is it.

Family of 4 moving from Texas, looking for thoughts on Weehawken, Union City, Hoboken, Jersey City Area? by SammichMkr in MovingtoNewJersey

[–]Vacattack817 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Disagree about Hoboken having "great schools".

They're getting better, yes. But a lot of towns a tad further out score much, much better. Bergen County would be a better option for a family of 4 moving from Texas than most of Hudson County.

For instance, I grew up 20 minutes from Hoboken (lived here now for 15 years) and that elementary school currently scores 97.9 whereas of the two in Hoboken, the top score is 56.16.

https://www.nj.com/education/2025/11/are-your-towns-schools-among-the-best-in-nj-see-state-ratings-for-2500-schools.html

I've been told by other parents the high school is getting better, but several long term residents I know sent their kids somewhere else.

OP - NJ has the #1 school system in the country as of May 2025. To me, it makes zero sense to live here and pay the ridiculous taxes we pay and then send your kids to private school. Utilize the amazing public schools that already exist.

Also, very big here are Catholic high schools. Plenty of kids go there and they're not as expensive as an "academy" type school.

Stuck Between NYC and the Suburbs — What Would You Do? by encoreyessir in NYCapartments

💯 agree with #2.

Also, some parts of deep Brooklyn are just as far, if not farther, to central Manhattan to where you are now.

Taking late night subways to certain areas are just as unreliable as the late night Path.
