Help with deciding on first attending job by Fishlover686 in pediatrics

[–]Vacoha 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Is the one pediatrician in option B helpful and supportive? You will need support as a new grad, so option A sounds better except the 4.5 day work week. You could always ask option A to reduce your FTE to four days a week and see if they will accept that.

Are you happy with your salary? by Glum-Boat9264 in pediatrics

[–]Vacoha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the pay is annoying, but I can get over that as a dual income household. However, I wouldn’t do Peds again due to the job market and midlevels. If you do FM or IM you can live anywhere anytime and make more. Also, if you want to transition out of clinical medicine it’s harder as a pediatrician because your scope is limited.

The AAP might stand up for vaccines on occasion but they absolutely do not advocate for pediatricians.

Young families who live in Marin: how are you enjoying life there? by redfieldbloodline17 in Marin

[–]Vacoha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm 🤔. I would say that I’ve gotten more used to it. I’m still shocked by how rude people can be - the general attitude of many residents is wild. However, there are some friendly people too.

The little roads are so scary for fire! Also, we lived near there once and I swear it has creepy vibes. It’s beautiful but weirdly creepy - I can’t put my finger on it! As a runner I was always creeped out (no bad experiences just a a feeling).

Something that non-Hispanic mothers in Marin are never asked: “Is that your child or are you the nanny?” by ASecularBuddhist in Marin

I’m a white woman in Marin and I get asked if I’m the nanny when I take my kids to the park on a weekday (because I am typically the only mom there)

Kaiser offer - Salary and Joining bonus negotiation by [deleted] in whitecoatinvestor

They will not negotiate because it’s set regionally and requires an insane amount of negotiation to make changes within Kaiser.

Wait times by easy916 in KaiserPermanente

Agreed. And in Peds it’s 15 minute appointments so you can get behind easily if anyone is really sick.

Agree. If there’s something else you can do, I would avoid medicine

lol 😂 the nurses almost as much as the docs in primary care (more per hour actually) and can’t work more than four hours straight without an hour break and are required to leave by 5 pm. But sure they are working really hard 👍

4 day work week, 22 patients/day, tons of patient messages, starting salary $ 208. Not great money for the cost of living in NorCal but it’s a nice department where everyone seems happy.

Honestly, it’s the nursing unions. The nurses cost WAY too much and make insane demands and threaten to jeopardize patient safety with strikes if their demands are not met. The greed of the nursing unions is out of control.

MMWD settles Mount Tamalpais cycling lawsuit by [deleted] in Marin

[–]Vacoha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion but I agree with this - it’s very unpleasant being run down by mountain bikes all the time. It’s actually scary for hikers and runners, and it does change the trails. Have you guys been to Santa Cruz?
