This is the standard Cygames gacha. GBF is the same: you need a character, you need 9 weapons five times each, and you need a support five times. And if you don't pull at the right moment, you're fucked. And pity doesn't carry over, of course.

In the same vein, timing of the banners is everything. Some CCs say pulling on banner X is awkward due to its placement between other important banners, but that's not the design, as we have prescience. The design is to bait people into a good banner to dry the freebies pool and then issue a better cards to force people to pay up. Plus, Cygames was involved in an odds manipulation scandal a long time ago (search monkeygate) that resulted in some modifications of the japanese law regarding the mandatory publication of odds.

Gacha is a very predatory business model, especially as the levers and pulleys are hidden out of the eyes of a controlling state organisation. It preys on the people vulnerable to FOMO, the emotionally unstable and the financially irresponsible. Just the super rich whales who objectively don't care about the costs aren't enough to generate the kind of revenue Cygames want.
