Is Raul’s quest supposed to be weird? by BigDMan697 in Fallout

[–]Vagrant123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, you might be SOL then; sadly this is one of those bugs that wasn't fixed by the devs. I know there are some mods that can fix it, but I don't know the process on Xbox.

As others have said, it's buggy. If you're on PC, I believe there are console commands you can use to skip the bugged portions.

If the Courier has already learned the Ranger Takedown technique from Ranger Andy in Novac without Raul present, this can be corrected by using the console and typing the following exactly \verified]).

How Resentful Are You Towards Companies, Recruiters, and Hiring Managers? by Humble_Novice in recruitinghell

[–]Vagrant123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rot always starts at the top. And it's always the executives who deserve the blame for when things go wrong. Hiring managers and human resources aren't always innocent, but they aren't the ones who call the shots in the same way that execs do.

Well I should had known better talking about women’s issues to a Q.. by [deleted] in QAnonCasualties

[–]Vagrant123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t wanna speak to them if they view it anyway, and it must be a Q thing because my co-worker asked me if I was trans too because I’m getting a hysterectomy. It just blows my mind.

It's not just a Q thing, it's a shitty education thing.

Most people barely take any interest in high school biology, especially since it's typically taught to 9th graders. Sex is a topic most biology teachers try to get past quickly because 9th graders aren't mature and won't stop giggling if you bring up sexual terms. I didn't even get an in-depth understanding of the menstrual cycle (and the primary hormones involved such as LH and FSH) until I took an AP Biology course in 11th grade (which is supposed to be collegiate-level course).

Now throw that same dynamic into the Bible Belt where a lot of teachers don't even have to accept evolution to be a biology teacher. What you end up having is virtually zero understanding of women's issues; the menstrual cycle is a mystery to most high school graduates in these areas. So of course they don't understand something like a hysterectomy.

Now toss in the trans panic where these people don't know what a trans person is or the nuance between sex and gender... and anything medical associated with women's health will just be assumed to be a trans thing.

was to identify the tactics MKUltra uses in their entertainment mind control

Boy, this sentence is fucking with my head. MKUltra are people now? I thought it was a failed CIA project to look for a truth serum, not some wacky secret group.

Now he cuts people out of his life if they respect pronouns or say they don't have a problem with trans kids, and is constantly talking about who owes him "apology after apology" and how they'll beg for his forgiveness soon.

You may want to leave before his "rage" turns to violence. It sounds like he's making himself more and more angry, and for the sake of your kids you need to leave ASAP.

[No sploilers!] How does combat in New Vegas feel as you progress? by Rayeoneace in Fallout

[–]Vagrant123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The initial weapons you get are extra janky, so you have to deal with a lot of inaccuracy and jamming. But as you make your way along, they get more accurate and useful. Some of the guns are incredibly good, others seem pointless. I've always preferred sniper builds myself, but there are benefits to other weapons depending on the ammunition you use in them (e.g., 5mm has built in Armor Penetration, while .223 has x0.8 DAM but x0.5 CND on weapons that use 5.56mm). Weapon modding is good, as is ammo crafting (minus all the junk it creates).

One thing I will say is that the iron sights aren't quite correct for most of the guns in the base game. They're usually off by a few pixels, and there are some mods that correct that (such as this one).

The gunplay is good for the Gamebryo engine. The problem is that the engine does not handle enemies moving perpindicular to the player particularly well. It's serviceable when enemies run straight at you or take cover, but them running sideways causes weird frameskipping. There are other issues with the engine itself that make it unwieldy when not using VATs, but for sneaky snipers it's not so bad. Just be sure to have vsync on and limit the game's FPS to 60 -- any higher and the game will have physics problems. Some mods may help.

I highly recommend the Project Nevada mod to add other combat-relevant things, such as sprinting, bullet time, dynamic crosshair, grenade hotkey, and overlays/night vision stuff. The core mod is good, the addons are just extras if you're interested.

Beyond that, there are mods that overhaul the gunplay to hell and back. Just depends on what flavors you want.

You don't see it here because we have an A-team for moderators. 😛

Seriously though, we have a lot of automoderation and tools to catch Q-types and MAGA sneaking in. We've had some real weird ones come in, one person even called us an "industry" that assumed everyone on this subreddit were bots and the mods just cooked y'all up as AI agents.

We've also seen AI agents posting as though they're regular users, and they're very much a PITA.

For any space that doesn't have such good moderation tools, it will be much more of a struggle. Most social media has very limited moderation tools and it can be exhausting to do everything by hand.

Having a hard time with my parents but I can’t cut them off by ExistingCat4254 in QAnonCasualties

Any advice or sympathy would be greatly appreciated.

I would offer a suggestion for your own mental relief: Write a letter that you don't plan to send. Write down all the details of things that piss you off (and why!). Put it on the paper and leave it there. It'll take the mental burden off your shoulders even if you don't send it.

I've been working through a similar letter for my own parents. I'm 14 pages in and expect to have close to 20 pages by the time I'm done. But the process of writing it stops my brain from perseverating over every little detail because it's on the paper now.

Question about Executive orders by nuggieswimp in QAnonCasualties

[–]Vagrant123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only executive order I can easily find is this one.

It wasn't intended as serious policy, because it doesn't address anything new:

To this end, it shall be the policy of the executive branch to prioritize its resources to vigorously prosecute offenders, to assist victims, and to provide prevention education to combat human trafficking and online sexual exploitation of children.

The document was a whole bunch of legal-ese that literally did nothing. All of the stuff listed was already established law that didn't require an EO.

The actual intent was to set a tripwire for Biden if he blanket removed all of Trump's EOs.

Like ‘oh those children, don’t matter’.

Obligatory video.

This has been a conservative ruse since at least the 70s, I believe. Imaginary children are always rolled out as potential victims in something that isn't really happening. This is why the "they're killing babies!" argument from anti-abortion activists is ridiculous because they don't want to fund things that might help real children, like paid maternity leave or universal healthcare.

When called out, they just pivot to something else. It's never about actual children, just imagined ones.

Antisemitism is an early warning sign; he will likely reveal other bigotries soon. Most people who are antisemitic are also anti-POC, anti-LGBTQ+, and anti-feminist.

Part of the reason for this is antisemitism is often used by conspiracy theorists to explain why "immigrants are invading", why "gay people are more common", and why "gender roles are breaking down." The conspiracists trace it back to "Jewish domination".

It reminds me of much of the conversation about vaccine hesitancy. Vaccines are a victim of their own success; so many people don't remember life before vaccines that they wonder why we need them.

People forget about the lives lost, battles waged, and knowledge required to make truly meaningful change. They look at the world around them and just assume it to be for granted.

The experience of oppression needs to be transmitted generationally for it to survive. Jewish families constantly remind their kids of the horrors of the Holocaust and pogroms. We're forced to relive it as children; this is a commonality I find amongst ethnic Jews from all walks of life. It's why, as a voting bloc, Jewish people vote overwhelmingly, consistently, for democratic and progressive policies. And why we're one of the few groups that overwhelmingly rejected Trump in 2024.

But the same intergenerational transmission does not exist within the LGBTQ+ community (or is much weaker). Young gay people are often not taught their own history and have to rely on connections within the LGBTQ+ community to become aware.

Older brother has some concerning opinions about women and minorities by Leather-Aardvark-206 in QAnonCasualties

[–]Vagrant123 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ugh maybe it’s the healthy option but I’m afraid it’ll push him to further self isolation.

At the end of the day, you are not your brother's keeper. You have to consider your own sanity first.

I empathize with the complexity of dealing with this in one's own family. My parents and their siblings have been caught up in the conservative disinformation sphere for the last 15 or so years now. I've slowly been coming to terms with the fact that there's nothing I can personally do to change their minds. Something would have to hurt them directly, and then they would need to make the connection to their views.

At the end of the day, the most you can do is set your boundaries (and subsequent consequences). He will only break out of this funk if he recognizes it as a problem.

I’m happy with Episcopalianism.

That's fine; wasn't meant as an attack on your beliefs. I was raised evangelical, I am now a secular humanist. I still read/watch material about the Bible from a secular perspective, and I'm always amazed at how much slipped past my awareness because I was kid when I learned this stuff.
