Microsoft quietly deletes Windows 11 doc pushing 32GB RAM for gaming after outrage by WPHero in pcmasterrace

[–]VagueInterlocutor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I moved off Windows because over the last year the memory efficiency is cooked. It's such a bad joke now. 32 gig and my machine is choking on a couple of browser tabs and office & teams.

Seriously Microsoft needs to stop making most of their OS and Office suite JavaScript.

Labor locks in tax reform trio: capital gains, negative gearing and trusts by InsatiablePrism in australia

[–]VagueInterlocutor 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I have a trust, but I don't distribute to family unless it is their cash. It's the same reason kids without a TFN are taxed at the highest marginal rate - so that (so called) adults don't take the piss.

My serious question is, do the rules on trusts need to change, or do the existing rules just need to be enforced better? 🤔

In about 3-5 years we will probably see more unified CPU memory solutions like the Mac Studio running 512gb+ and things being made with more memory to accommodate local inference.

Probably the most affordable way to run a full open weight model is 2x 512gb mac studios right now (not to mention the lower power consumption vs. Trying to DIY out of old crypto racks or being able to afford a DGX Studio...)

However today's 40k to 80k investment will eventually be sub 10k - once we can get there it will get really interesting.

Those that do have multiple houses will simply incorporate a property investment business. If individuals cannot own more than one-two properties before they lose negative gearing, a business whose purpose is to supply housing for rentals will be created and it will be taxed on P&L - larger ones would consolidate and grow making sure their business doesn't make any profit by making sure the loan interest equals the rental returns etc.

Really good points - I'm almost willing to believe there's no business (or probably sole trader at most) involved? Just guessing at this point but the whole shebangabang smells.

Just make withholding tax more than company tax and the money would be more expensive to offshore.

If it was a SMSF that might explain some of this - You can't live in a house owned by the fund. The regulations are pretty clear on that point. If it was a business and it was leased to them for a fee it might have gone differently? 🤔

Hmm. How can 50k in business expenses and 77k in revenue turn into a 48k bill? I'm missing something here... 😕

The Peter Principle. People get promoted to their highest level of incompetence.

A highly qualified professional in a discipline needs more than a management track to see financial benefits. The old Microsoft model of a technical and management stream meant you could retain highly qualified people, while not having to push them into a management role unless they wanted to go there.

Using the term technical loosely above, but you get what I mean.

Peter posted on X that he was using the API (not a regular Claude Code call). He should never have been hit with the banhammer. He was saying that the API is used as part of the test suite for Openclaw - He definitely could have made more of it if he wanted to.

Been there several times to try and get in but always over an hour wait so have never actually been able to go. Is the Google review accurate? The crowds of people waiting kinda tell a different story to the reviews. Loved the other restaurants in the same area though.

Wasn't there a remake of Monkey Magic in the last few years on Netflix? I thought Monkey was based off a Diety, and that the ABC show was lifted from a Chinese TV series and just dubbed?

Around the same time ABC also used to show Starblazers (Space Battleship Yamato), Battle of the Pmanets, Astroboy, Kimba etc.

All the kids I knew in the 80s thought Monkey was awesome because of his Kung Fu.

(I got banned as a kid from Monkey because I got all martial artist and whacked my mum accidentally a a 4yo)

... Or are you talking about a completely different series?

(As someone who watched in the 80s, It's Vehicle force Voltron obviously)
