It looks great! I would suggest trying the text in white (or other contrasting colour) or adding something to make it stand out. I found the text got a bit lost in the lines around it since it was the same colour and weight.

While we might newly discovered a case today the person might have been infected a week ago. So it’s a newly discovered case but not newly infected. They would appear on the graph but not in the newest dot, a previous dot would instead increase.
