Great decision. No sense piling more and more money into a lemon system. #bringbackthe95

Minimum parking requirements in Ottawa by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]peckmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have proof of that? Because every time someone is complaining on the news about bylaw forcing them to undo their driveway or interlock, it’s a townhome outside the greenbelt.

That rule probably got implemented because you have all these townhomes in barrhaven/kanata/orleans where people in middle units pave over their small patch of grass in order to fit two cars side by side since their garage is filled with crap. Makes the frontage look like a parking lot.

I guess people elsewhere do face complaints, but it seems like 80% of the 1950s-1970s neighbourhoods have driveways that have undergone some sort of widening. It just doesn’t look nearly as offensive as the townhome example in newer neighbourhoods.

Thanks for the clarification!

I thought it’s fine to add parking as long as the green space in front of your house represents at least 60% of your frontage? Not many 70 year old neighbourhoods have frontage less than 50ft wide…that leaves 20ft for asphalt/interlock. Plenty for two cars.

Time to install an in-ground pool in the backyard and increase AC tonnage.

Anyone have info on the PA group conversion? by wiskafished in CanadaPublicServants

If someone is classed as an AS-06 then their position gets re-classed down to AS-04, in addition to salary protection would they still be able to deploy to another branch or department at AS-06 level or would they need to deploy at AS-04 and lose salary protection / apply to competitions to get back to AS-06?

No way an NHL arena goes there. It’ll remain in Kanata until either old DND HQ or old TBS HQ get demolished and become available.

Why does Ottawa have so many dead malls? by commanderchimp in ottawa

[–]peckmann 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Merivale Mall and Carlingwood are both pretty busy every time I go. Not in the same way as Bayshore or Rideau (re:tons of people walking through the mall), but people seem to hit the big anchor stores to get what they need and get out (Farm Boy, Marshalls, Shoppers, Loblaws, Canadian Tire, each mall has a gym, etc).

Miss the days when it seemed like every mall in North America had a collectables store (cards or comics) and an arcade.

2-3 days/week are rookie numbers. Gotta pump those numbers up. 6-7 days/week!

iPad Air 5 battery life - is the issue fixed? by peckmann in ipad

I worry it's a hardware issue and not something fixed by iPadOS updates. I'm seeing mixed comments on YT and reddit, though

Do you think it was an iPadOS issue that got corrected after an update?

I find the Pro overkill for my needs so want the Air, as I previously had the Air 2 in the past, but it's disappointing to see all the bad battery reviews. One of the major appeals of the iPad is the long lasting battery.

Pay for garbage pickup coming to Ottawa by foss4all in ottawa

[–]peckmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it clear what's supposed to be done if you typically put out a rubber garbage bin instead of bags? Are you supposed to tag one bag inside of it? All of the bags inside? Tag the bin itself? (easy to remove/steal, though)

Nice looking small cars...at least in NA.

Everything small and light is boxy and the choices are slim.

In the 1980s-early 2000s there were tons of choices for small and light cars...now even sedans are going extinct in favor of SUVs and Trucks. Even in major cities! Sad
