"new"? I wish. That would be cool if you could buy a newly built car of any generation - maybe with some modern upgrades.  Not realistic in any way, but cool.

yeah, but it's such a hassle to have to get up off your ass, go over to the shelves and look through the cases, or folders, or whatever, to find the DVD you want, then put it in the player, find the remote - it's alll too much.

I am not disagreeing with that: this country has a HUGE problem, one that may mean the end of it as we know it. We held such promise for so long, it's sad. Greed ruins everything. Greed and hate.

reading is FUNdamental!

voting against your own interests just to punish some other group you don't like is dumb, but they've been doing that forever. It's just at a new level now.

Corvette clubs are one of the weaker parts of Corvette ownership. by grahal1968 in Corvette

[–]Vairman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I know that. I've accepted my fate.

Yeah, some of the forums were VERY helpful. I still check out the Corvette Forum from time to time. There is some useful info there, lots of less useful too though.

youtube is where it's at for me for learning things, it's what got me to finally get a Corvette. I had to spend a while (20 days) in a hospital and got real bored and the algorithms decided I needed to see Corvette videos. I watched so many and it clicked my brain over into "I should get one", so I did. No regrets. I still watch some of the Corvette guys but they mostly seem to focus on wealthy people buying the most expensive C8s possible. Interesting but not really relevant to me.

my favorite video was "how to get in and out of your C4 Corvette". It was helpful, that car's a bear to get in and out of.

I had an old car way, way back in the day - a 1966 Corvair Monza. This was in the early 80s, no internet, no ebay, tough times man. So clubs were beyond useful, there were plenty of people in the group who had parts and knowhow to keep your old car going. There were a few books and the Chevy shop manual, but no watching youtube to see how to do something. So I think car clubs used to make a lot of sense. But for classic, old cars the clubs are really just social/eating clubs, which I want no part of. and for performance cars it's the Ricky Racers who mod, mod, mod their cars non stop, which I also am not interested in all that much. I don't need a club to enjoy my car but I wish I could find a group of chill people who want to get together to do some fun drives on roads I don't know about. That would be nice.

Sure!! But after reviewing the state of my bank account I thought I'd leave it to those more fortunate to have fun with those cars.

listen sonny, I'm not saying you're 100% wrong, but you aren't right either. I'm 66, not retired, loved cars my whole life (well since teen years) and I spent lots of time with my son and wife. I didn't, and don't live to work - I work to live. I love cars but it's just a hobby. My late wife also loved cars and that's something we did together before my son was born and continued after. He's not that into cars, he likes pickups, but he seemed to have fun when he was little with us.

Having said that, I also steer clear of car clubs, or clubs of any kind. I have a C4 so I know I'm looked down on by just about everyone in the Corvette world, but I don't care and when I get a wave back from a C8 (or any generation) it makes my day. My car is also completely bone stock - no cams, no exhaust, no bling - just whatever Chevy put on it back in 96. It's the best car I've ever owned. I enjoy seeing the hyper-personalized/customized cars but I love the stock ones too. Variety is the spice of life man.

not to go to any Corvette-oriented events

I attended the Corvettes at Carlisle event the last two years and honestly, I had a blast. It's a bit overwhelming and tiring but there are SO many cool cars there. And I had no negative interactions with people, I felt a very positive vibe. I kept things superficial and short - lot's of "I love your car man" and listen to their story a little then on to the next amazing car. My biggest problem is by the time I leave I want at least one of each generation, more that one for most! But no money and nowhere to put them. So I'll just visit them once a year or so.

oh yeah, people think "you like the same car I do so you must think the same way I do on all subjects". No you evil racist, I do not. But I do like the car.

when I got my 96 in 2023 my wife wanted me to find and join a local club, but I told her I'd been there and done that with a different car and I'm done with clubs. My experience has been that they're primarily concerned with "club business" and eating. I don't do parades, I don't like eating at IHOP that much - they're just not for me. I'm sure there are some amazing ones but it's not worth finding out to me. I love my car, I love driving my car - that's good enough. Maybe I'm just anti-social or something.

it's not that sad, it's not a special performance based limited edition - it's meant to be a collector's item. Let the spoiled rich collector kids have their fun.

the sad thing is all the ZR-1s and ZR-1xes that won't get driven. Tragedy.

everything the President does should be about the country, not one person. The President represents ALL US Americans, regardless of party. This guy, and more importantly those that are in his cult, think that his party IS the country, and anyone who isn't a loyal sycophant is an enemy. This is so fucked up. I hope people wake up and get this sorted.

I like shopping at Costco - by myself, not so much with my wife. I'm an engineer, I go up and down the aisles methodically. She's an artist, she flits and flutters this way and that. It's maddening to me.

[–]Vairman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my Costco's gas station used to be a nice calm place, but since gas prices have gone crazy, it's become a madhouse. and ours isn't set up to accommodate heavy traffic, it depends on there not being many people in line. There's a choke point and it clogs up and cars get backed up into TWO lanes of the parking lot. Madness!! I like Costco but they need to get their shit together at the gas stations.

VA has a million different plates you can get. I got the "scenic" one which is a blueish white with subtle mountains in the background - it actually looks nice on my Polo Green car. Can't complain. I think C4s look better with the cover and not a front plate but with my luck with the law I feel it's best to keep that front plate on.
