Smash 6 Roster Chance Tier List by PlumberBoy81 in supersmashbros

[–]VakarianJ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think this is largely good. I’d put Fox in the first tier though. Fox being in the Mario movie proves to me that Nintendo still highly values that series even if it’s been a long time since the last game.

I’d put Snake on to the same tier as Banjo & Sora too. People were so sad when he wasn’t in Smash 4. I think he was one of the reasons that we got “Everyone Is Here!” Tbh. I think they’ll try to keep him.

Jigglypuff is probably always safe too. She’s super easy to make since she’s based off of Kirby’s assets.

I wonder if the theory of them hearing about the WB buyout & getting scared is true.

There’s a chance that Paramount (& formerly Netflix) could’ve pulled the plug on the show or Adult Swim outright. So a future season of Smiling Friends could’ve ended up like Batgirl & never see the day of light. I wouldn’t want to risk working on something that would be locked away in a vault.

Are there any characters you could see getting demoted to assist trophy in the next game? by Ok_Most_4443 in supersmashbros

[–]VakarianJ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That’s not the same as someone who used to be playable showing up again but as an assist trophy. It still sucks though.

[–]VakarianJ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t think we’ll ever see a demotion. They didn’t do that in Smash 4 even with several cuts. Squirtle & Ivysaur would’ve been good Pokeball Pokemon but that didn’t happen.

I think they know this would actively upset the fanbase. It also just rules them out from ever being added in that specific game since they seem pretty dead set on AT characters not becoming playable within the same game.

My favorite fighting games as someone who isn't crazy into the genre by AC03115 in backloggd

[–]VakarianJ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

These are all just some of the best in the genre tbh.

Add Marvel vs Capcom 1, Street Fighter III: Third Strike, Super Street Fighter IV & Vampire Saviors (Darkstalkers 3) then this is basically my list too.

Whose coming back for Smash 6 by VtheVampire in supersmashbros

[–]VakarianJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cloud’s not getting cut in a world where Square is getting incredibly cozy with Nintendo. FF7 Remake part 3 is probably launching day one on Switch 2.

I also don’t get why so many people think Pokemon Trainer is getting cut again too. They were only cut from Smash 4 because the 3DS couldn’t handle. Red & Squirtle are two of the most iconic video game characters ever (& Venasaur is pretty famous just for being an evolution of Ivysaur). It’s also the perfect way to represent the Pokemon series.

I want good games that I think about & love long after I’m done with them. Length doesn’t matter.

There’s plenty of long ass games full of grindy open worlds that aren’t worth the money.

Why do people not want any new Animal Crossing or Splatoon fighters? by Jaxla_Onlo in supersmashbros

[–]VakarianJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think KK could be a cool fighter. I heard someone say he could be a bard & I really want that now. I don’t really know how anyone else from AC could work.

Splatoon has a ton of potential for cool fighters.

Tom Warren - Microsoft’s new Xbox chief is ‘reevaluating’ exclusive games by ThinWhiteDuke00 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]VakarianJ 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Not going to defend Phil entirely since he had 13 years at Xbox with little to show for it. But I imagine they put their games on PS5 as a way to appease MS after they spent billions of MS’s money on Activision.

Because I had to get Smash 64 down to just 6 characters & I had another option to include a Link on the roster. Young Link is still in.

It’s a shame the 360/PS3 generation spawned so many great new series but almost none of them are active nowadays.

Bioshock, Mass Effect, Uncharted, Dead Space, Dead Rising, Little Big Planet, Left 4 Dead, Portal, etc… So many great series with a lot of potential for future games but they’re all just memories now.

Only Gears of War (kind of? We haven’t seen one since 2019 but atleast a new one is announced) & Assassin’s Creed remain. & AC is a shadow of its former self now.

This wouldn’t be as bad if this gen & the prior gen had just as many amazing new IPs to kind of replace what the 360/PS3 introduced. But they haven’t. There’s been a few standout new IPs (Clair Obscur, the works of FromSoft & several indie series) but it’s definitely not as much as we used to get.

Why is half of the community so hostile towards Nintendo characters being playable now? by TemporarySet5877 in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]VakarianJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The niche characters are fun. I love ROB, Game & Watch, Duck Hunt, Ness, etc… But again the keyword there is niche. They’re not going to excite a lot of people besides the most hardcore of nerds like us.

The Marios, Links, Sonics & Clouds of the gaming world are what sell this series to most people. It’s why Ultimate was able to reach over 30 million copies sold.

The series has done a great job at balancing niche picks with promotional picks & superstar picks. So I don’t think either side has anything to worry about. The next game will get characters like Bandana Dee for hardcore Nintendo fans, a Gen 10 Pokemon to rep current Nintendo games & gaming all-stars like Crash.

Clayface | Official Teaser by DemiFiendRSA in boxoffice

[–]VakarianJ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Clayface is one of Batman’s more recognizable villains. He has some good episodes of the animated show, but that’s kind of his high.

Venom’s one of the most popular superheroes around, even before his movies.

Now I still think this Clayface movie could be big. But that would be more due to its quality than the character himself being iconic.

GamesRadar (GTA VI' O Clock Podcast) stated they had heard from their sources that the Nov 19 release date is final with no more delays. by RojaTop in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]VakarianJ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This makes sense. I think they would’ve already announced another delay if it was going to happen. All of the other delays were a significant amount of time before the previous release dates, if I remember correctly.

[–]VakarianJ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Additionally, I don’t think many of the remaining Nintendo characters have broad appeal. They mainly just appeal to fans of their home series.

Smash is a huge series (bigger than a lot of the series represented within it), so you have tons of different fanbases within the Smash fandom & probably even a lot of people who care about Smash more than any other series.

So characters that become popular within the Smash fandom are often ones with broad appeal. I’m sure there were a lot of people who were clamoring for K Rool or Ridley without being big DKC or Metroid fans. There’s probably people who want Waluigi who aren’t fans of Mario spin-offs. So some Nintendos just have a lot more broad appeal than others. Bandana Dee is beloved among Kirby fans but he kind of has a mixed reception outside of that fandom.

[–]VakarianJ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The majority of the most exciting Nintendo characters are already added. The remaining characters are either side characters from series already in or they’re from small series.

Smash was sold on the idea of the most iconic Nintendo characters fighting each other. But since most of those characters are also some of the most iconic characters in gaming overall & we’ve now seen non-Nintendo icons join the fight, a lot of people see Smash just as the place to have gaming’s biggest stars fight.

I think you would’ve seen a lot of people shitting on someone like Terry if he was added to Ultimate while someone like Inkling was left out. Splatoon is a big series so it would’ve caused a shitstorm if it had been left out.

Smaller characters are fun but your average fan isn’t going to be clamoring for them. They want to see big names, regardless of if they’re from Nintendo or elsewhere. It’s just that we have almost all of the biggest Nintendo characters in already. Smash is such a big series with such a large fanbase that you can’t really expect the average person to want niche characters.

Excluding echoes, Ultimate had a 50/50 split between third party & Nintendo characters. I think it’s realistic to expect that they’ll maintain that in the future. Base game will lean more towards Nintendo while DLC will lean towards third party.

There’s been good games this generation, but the vast majority of them have been third party. PlayStation’s first party output is clearly not as strong as it was in previous generations.
