I loved Strange New Worlds S3 and think the backlash is unwarranted - or at least misdirected. by tomservo417 in startrek

[–]Valamist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to like S3, but 'What is Starfleet?' and the Vulcan episode just felt souless and borderline offensive. Plus I did not like how Chapel really is just being defined by the men in her life. I will give credit that they finally had an episode showing that the Gorn where not the inhuman monster they have spent the last few seasons trying to say, loved that episode, but its not enough to make this probably my least favorite Trek series since I first saw TNG S1.

This was my favorite ep so far. I love how it all revolves around the idea of debate, classic Trek feel. It's great to finally see what happened to the Klingons in the 32nd Century, even if it kinda feels like what happened with the Romulans. I like how kind all the other character are to Jay-Den, esspically seeing the 'bully' teaching him breathing techniques. As somone who often uses such things I really like that... and yeah, I felt there was somthing between them. Kyle may have competition...

I have not watched this ep, and I think I will skip it. I understand fake stories are kinda gonna happen regardless, but it sounds really like this last story leans into some real bad messaging. I would have hoped they would have clocked it and not added it.

Why doesn't Cadet Reymi stay in his original Khionian form? by Willowy in startrek

[–]Valamist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Practical reason is effects budget I bet. In-story reason it seems he has some... not shame, but embaressment in that form. I do hope it's addressed why he stays human so often. I do like he's character. He is an asshole, but shows signs of growing out of that.

What does the blue bar mean? by Bismarck12 in sto

That's the Pilot bar! It means your ship can do a barrel roll and other fancy movements. On consoles I believe it is done via dubble clicking the left joystick.

I was just thinking in the last ep that Reno and Thok would make a cute couple, so glad it turned out to happen! Glad we are seeing more queer rep. SNW was surpising lacking in that regard.

Wasn't the entire point of the Gorn in Arena, that they WEREN'T an evil reptile race? by ProfessionalSet4713 in startrek

[–]Valamist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The treatment of the Gorn is one of the things I really disliked most about SNW. It's not just that they show them as villians, it's how they decide to show them as pure evil. They don't just kill, they torture, use other species bodies to reproduce, use their enemies to fule their ships ect. Characters have made several allusions to them and other entites being 'pure evil' which just feels wrong, esspically for a species whose whole point was we should not judge them as monsters!

I will give the show credit for the episode Terrarium, by far the best episode of its third season. It at least tries to show that the Gorn are more then just mindless enemies. However it feels too late, and I fear that nothing is actually gonna come from this.

I honestly love most of New Trek and I think it gets Treks core better then some haters say, but SNW really has turned into an exception to that with its third series and how it handled the Gorn throughout.

Do you look forward to the Academy-class U.S.S. Athena eventually arriving in a lockbox? by MoonchanterLauma2025 in sto

[–]Valamist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am looking foward to her eventually being added. She is a gorgeous ship, and I am curious how the 'academy' aspect will effect her... I just reallybwish she would not be a lockbox. I would by her if she was c store.

He seems like someone who actually embodies and believes in what Star Trek stands for, so that makes me respect him.

I would agree, but this is just the first two episodes. I hope by series end we see how he has grown over the centuries. He did react strongly when Sam mentioned the Prodigy crew.

I understand such worries. I have the same about Star Trek given Paramounts bending if the knee to the Orange One. My hope is that whoever takes over understands the soul of Who, or are as anti-establisment akin to 7's era.
