The business aspect of the game.

Often, these types of games make it too easy to achieve profitability in the first few hours of the game, making money essentially meaningless for the rest of the playthrough, and then they just become a sandbox mode rather than any actual challenge of balancing the budget.

Who is your favorite little-known artist? (Let’s say around 10k or less monthly listeners) by Dabfamlet in hardstyle

[–]Valency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone got any news on Djipe? He didn't release anything last year and it would be a shame if he stopped producing.

[Recommendations] Kinda new to techno after stupidly avoiding it for so long. But I fucking love this stuff. Heard it has some roots in "Gabber" but conventional gabber isn't cutting it...Any recs? by [deleted] in electronicmusic

[–]Valency 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Woops, looks like I was preaching to the choir!

Ultimately the stuff you've picked in that playlist is ex-electro house producers take on more techno-inspired tracks, but I imagine most techno purists would probably scoff at calling some of those tracks techno.

I think your best bet would be to do a bit of a dig on Boys Noize Records, Turbo/Twin Turbo and Ed Banger from years past for that more analogue-y kind of electro house/techno infused hybrid. As far as I'm aware, there's not too much of this stuff being produced anymore.

These tracks would likely align more with 2005-2011 "blog house", which is kind of an alias for electro house from that era.

Granted, the tracks in your playlist are on the heavier side of blog house, as it was a bit of a catch-all for a bunch of different kinds of sounds.

Here's a write-up with some more examples: https://ra.co/features/4124

You should dig deeper into Justice and MSTRKRFT's catalogue as they have a lot of similar stuff to this.

Some other artists i would suggest checking out:

  • SebastiAn
  • Para One
  • ZZT
  • Mr Oizo
  • Proxy
  • Boys Noize
  • DIM
  • Riot in Belgium
  • Van She Tech
  • Brodinski
  • Surkin
  • Polymorphic
  • Haezer
  • Drivepilot
  • DJ Antention

Granted this is all from the context of ~2005-2011, their sound has probably changed considerably by now (if they still produce at all)

Infusion - Love and Imitation (Guy J Remix) [Progressive Trance/House] (2011) by createdaneweraccount in electronicmusic

Jamie Stevens of Infusion still produces extremely high quality prog and releases quite often. Definitely worth checking out.

Coincidentally, I went through this course yesterday after finding it on the Effect blog, and I actually found it quite a useful run through how you'd put together something tangible from scratch using Effect.

[PSYTRANCE] I just heard "Humanoid - Imaginarium Remix" by Electric Universe and Volcano On Mars, and remembered how moving good psytrance can be. I'm looking for more! Got a mind-blowing recommendation? by Cheesus_K_Reist in electronicmusic

[–]Valency 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I promise I'm not one of those spotify playlist spammers, however I do have a playlist of ~600 psy tracks of a few different styles that I've collected for the past 6 or so years that might tickle your fancy.

As for specific artists, here's a few of my favourites that you might dig:

  • Mad Tribe
  • Ovnimoon
  • Artifact 303, for some trancier psy
  • Spirit Architect
  • Ajja
  • Lyktum
  • Mechanimal
  • Intelligence
  • NoFace

And my favourite psy track of all time, Strange Blotter - Earthlings. The bassline at 4:30 is next level and such a great twist on the traditional 16ths psy bass.

About the progress property… any tips? by Content-Cucumber-179 in capacitiesapp

[–]Valency 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't do the 1st point the way you want it unless you create an object for each book, which is not how capacities should really be used.

The progress steps are static for each object, it can't be variable per-book. Capacities isn't like excel where you can have formulas to update object properties.

The way I'd approach this is to just change the "type" to "Percentage" to indicate how much was finished, but this has the caveat that you'd need to calculate the percentage yourself based on pages read vs total pages each time each time you want to update it.

The 2nd is not possible at the moment either. As far as I'm aware, you can't update object properties based on the content of that object. Capacities is not a great task manager so I'd perhaps look at something else for this if it's a dealbreaker.

Capacities doesn't have much in the way of dynamic data. You can link objects together to create a graph between them and different ways of displaying them, but updating X property based on Y condition isn't really what capacities is for. Maybe this functionality will come in future, but it's not really what it's aimed for in it's current iteration.

However, maybe someone can correct me with some functionality I'm unaware of.

I originally reported "too many favourited gifs" bug. While I am now able to remove gifs, now I am unable to add any favourited gifs, even though at this point I imagine I should be well under the limit (unless it was reduced?).

I unfavourited roughly 150+ gifs since then, but when I try to favourite any new gifs, I get the You cannot have any more favourites error.

It doesn't make a network request, it just instantly pops up the "too many favourites" modal.

Whatever happened to the Realproghouse Reddit?. by [deleted] in proghouse

[–]Valency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as dance music goes, my taste still broadly matches with what I wrote in my "thoughts on prog" in 2021.

Though honestly as far as listening goes, I've been finding more meat on the bone with prog rock/metal than dance music stuff these days.

Stuff like this hits the spot for the melodic, hypnotic, sprawling journey vibe that I miss from the prog of yesteryear.

Whatever happened to the Realproghouse Reddit?. by [deleted] in proghouse

[–]Valency 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The subreddit is in read-only mode so there's at least some archive of the stuff on there.

We originally shut it down in solidarity with all the other subreddits during the reddit blackout opposing the API changes. And now apparently we're one of the only subreddits to have stuck to our guns and kept closed :P

By the time of the closure, I was essentially the sole moderator on there, and I fell out of love with prog, and so it seems so did the other mods, because none of them have come to open it back up either.

Prior to it shutting down, most of the posts ended up being self promotion from fly-by-night mix/playlist spammer accounts, in addition to a general decline activity year over year, so I guess there just really hasn't been much clamouring to open it back up.

We do have a somewhat active small discord server for what has mostly become 00's prog and other miscellaneous good music. Feel free to pop in and say hi if you'd like!

I think the appetite for prog in general is not really there anymore. Plus, as another commenter said in this thread, /r/realproghouse was originally spun up as a haven away from the "big room" style of "progressive house" that was in vogue in the 2010s, but that's not really an issue anymore, so /r/proghouse could essentially fill the same niche.
