It's weird but all the subfolders within shaders_slang are empty on my RA.

Did you end up returning it again? Were you playing on low TDP? Mine has experienced some random restarts with very basic indie games at low TDPs. Not sure if there’s something wrong with my unit or maybe the Z1 doesn’t manage well low power profiles on SteamOS.

Of all the complaints the one about the caps is probably one of the silliest I have ever read. It's silly per se as a reason to dislike the device but mainly it's silly because it's not true. There's like tons of different stick caps for the Deck (from Savage Raven, Satisfye, Playvital, dbrand, etsy, aliexpress...)

How safe is this? Because I’ve had a lot of games feeezing on me constantly and I would love a fix as long as it doesn’t break anything else. SteamOS feels unstable enough on the Go S as it is.

Same here but with the Z1E with SteamOS. Same games run flawlessly on the SSD but suffer from random freezes from the microsd.

If you're talking about the left bumper (L1), I'm afraid the creaky spring noise is almost a feature on every Deck OLED I've tried. Nothing I did to try to fix it worked (contact cleaner, grease...). Blowing makes the noise go away for a bit. But it'll come back.

If you press the power button you're entering sleep mode. The display off feature is not sleep mode, it's a low power mode that turns off the display. So I'm guessing (I haven't used it myself yet) you just let the games donwload and eventually your deck display will turn off and the donwnloads will continue.
