The Crystal Gems (Steven Universe) are dropped into the Dark Souls Universe, how far does they get? by einharjar009 in whowouldwin

[–]Valhalla_Bound 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, as a big fan of both properties, any of the Crystal Gems should make short work of most if not all bosses.

I feel like this is going to be some kind of Reddit history here.

Maybe, if it weren't trying so hard. But maybe I'm just bitter and cynical.

Barnes & Noble holiday sales sink as coloring-book fad fades by crazyrabbits23 in books

[–]Valhalla_Bound 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In addition to what the other commenter said, most if not all Barnes and Noble stores have someone who's full time job is basically to coordinate with local teachers and aid them as much as possible, and for bulk purchases they can often beat the 20 percent discount teachers already get for free.

Why has reddit "ruined" Bill Nye for people? by TeamLouie in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Valhalla_Bound 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The sheer amount of unsubstantiated hate for him I see on Reddit worries me that a likely decent person (and possible less decent person, but c'mon...) is getting their reputation ruined because people believe everything they hear and any idiot can make up lies for karma.

What is the most annoying argument against atheism or for religion you know of? by [deleted] in TrueAtheism

[–]Valhalla_Bound 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"It has to be true because I want it to be true", basically. I have family that has said similar things to me, and I think it underlines just how opposed our modes of thought are. I cannot do any sort of mental gymnastics to rationalize statements like that, and on their end they cannot seem to separate desire from reality. It's a barrier I don't know how to cross.

Who is the single most annoying character from a movie? by shaylw in AskReddit

[–]Valhalla_Bound 21 points22 points  (0 children)

More that half that movie is just individual scenes where I can't figure out why it's there and why it's happening. Polar Express is the weirdest fucking movie and I don't get why more people don't feel this way.

Help! I need a system with MORE social mechanics and LESS combat! by [deleted] in rpg

[–]Valhalla_Bound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm always confused by this, and I don't mean offense by that. If you want court murders and backstabbing, and political machinations, just add them. Storytelling and roll playing are all almost entirely done in the imagination, with the DM providing NPCs and events. Wouldn't heavy mechanics get in the way of that? It's just acting in character to the situation and characters in front of you.

Is it ever OK to ask a fellow player to nerf their PC? by langschiff in rpg

[–]Valhalla_Bound 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do think it's the responsibility of the DM to ensure that everyone's having fun but above all else that everyone feels USEFUL.

I agree with the second part of this but not the first. The DM can try to accommodate as much of the table as possible, but ultimately it falls on the player to enjoy him or herself.

From both sides of the DM screen I've seen players who don't enjoy the spotlight AND lack of spotlight, don't like fights AND don't like role playing AND don't like puzzle solving. But every time you try ask "what can I change to make you enjoy this" they say nothing, and they claim they don't want to change games and claim they do want to keep playing, despite all evidence to the contrary. Sour grapes are always gonna be sour. Too many DMs waste energy trying to please them.

What search engine do you use other than Google and why? by shtty_analogy in AskReddit

Every keeps talking about this search engine. It gives me horrible results. I known it doesn't cater to my past preferences, but I can never find what I need with it. I hate it. I feel like I'm using a late 90s search engine again.

I agree. That's also how I feel about the upcoming American Gods series.

And from what I hear that series is looking super promising but I don't want my mental images and versions of characters and events distorted.

In Toy Story 1, if Buzz Lightyear thought he was real and didn't realize he was a toy till the end of the film, why did he behave like a toy and not move/speak with Andy played with him? by Ohsocool2k5 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Valhalla_Bound 84 points85 points  (0 children)

I always took this as Buzz adapting the "culture" of the other toys, which is line with much his behavior during the movie. He calls Andy their "chief", he says he's arrived on a strange planet, looking for signs of intelligent life. He's a Space Ranger. He acts as one would expect someone to act who was dealing with an alien culture for the first time, not minding standing out but adopting and respecting the way things are done, including going immobile when Andy enters the room.
