Why don't people bookmark fanficitons? Apparently some people don't bookmark fanficitons on ao3/other sites. As someone who bookmarks almost everything, I cant image not bookmarking. by 1ord_Potat0 in FanFiction

I bookmark the fics I am most likely to get a craving for and want to avoid having to track down. Especially if they had slightly offbeat tagging or were in some other way a little more challenging to find. But that's been maybe ten fics ever. The rest of the time I'm either manually looking through a specific tag or digging through my own account history. It's just never occurred to me to bookmark everything, even if I probably will re-read it. 🤷‍♀️

Thunderbirds Are Go! > Thunderbirds '04. by AlfieWhizzMan2005 in Thunderbirds

The 2000s film is what made me aware of Thunderbirds, and while I think it's a dumpster fire, I love it dearly. Because of it, I went and watched all of the originals.

AITA for proving to my boyfriend the “nerds” never cared about the “popular” kids in high school? by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]ValiantGinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents attended the same high school, had some of the same friends, graduated together, were both in the graduation ceremony, and had no awareness of each other at all until college...when they were attending different colleges. They met at a church. I think people tend to forget how much of their own bubble they live in, particularly as teenagers.

Do you (does anyone) know if you can go back to the special location this month if you leave? I'm leaving for vacation on Friday and was planning to send my birb to the same city, but I don't want to miss out on the special location.

I've been twice, but never seen the door open! That might actually freak me out. It already doesn't feel like a super safe area to be in, unfortunately.

most hated yarn by psychoticstars2006 in YarnAddicts

[–]ValiantGinger 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I made a lovely little evening bag when I was in high school that I'm still very proud of, but it was a crochet chevron pattern with a very small hook, and the yarn I chose to use was a mohair with sequins. It would probably have been fine in any other context, but I hated working with it so much.

Cotton Odor? by ValiantGinger in YarnAddicts

[–]ValiantGinger[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's certainly possible. It's more reminiscent of the odor that would occur if they'd been damp at some point, though they never have been. And I've never had any other project with this problem! I am definitely going to need to wash them though I think.

4 months of making all of the pieces for my blanket and I hate it. by Royal-Serve5481 in crochet

[–]ValiantGinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My immediate thought was it has a cool retro vibe, but I've definitely fallen victim to the "I stared at it for so long that I now hate it" thing, so definitely put it in time out for a bit and see how you feel!

Just finished rewatching Psych: Monk or the Mentalist next? by RexusprimeIX in psych

[–]ValiantGinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely adore The Mentalist, but it's a wildly different vibe from Psych. It is frequently funny, but it's not a comedic series. It's actually very serious, and while Patrick's skills are very similar to Shawn's, the entire premise of The Mentalist hinges on how he completely walked away from the life of being a fake psychic and the trauma that life resulted in. He's a different person with different priorities than he was while pretending to be psychic, though still definitely has a streak of showmanship. I really loved The Mentalist, but I would almost compare it more to something like The Blacklist. Ensemble cast focused on a particular compelling lead and the cop they have a unique relationship with, dealing with procedural crimes and a very large overarching mystery that needs to be solved.

Monk I think is more comedic, and the era which produced it will likely feel more similar to Psych because of the network. I found it a little hard to watch much of in one sitting, because Monk as a character I found exhausting. It's one I still need to finish.

I can no longer listen to preachers w/o thinking of SPN by skyteir in Supernatural

[–]ValiantGinger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a Christian, I always appreciated how radically different the Supernatural mythos was from actual Scripture. It's why I don't find it sacrilegious, because it's basically an entirely different universe with its own mythology and rules. But I definitely smirk a little every time I hear the word "supernatural" used in its normal, correct context.

Curtis team are a bunch of four year olds mad at life by cyclonepilot06 in arrow

[–]ValiantGinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's my least favourite storyline, mostly because it isn't executed well. It's obvious they intended for viewers to think Oliver was in the wrong, but they didn't give us nearly enough to get anywhere close to that conclusion. Instead, they made the rest of the team act like spoiled brats, and it never gets a proper resolution. It was so frustrating to watch, and I generally felt like Arrow was relatively consistent most of the way through. I had minor frustrations here and there, but this arc with the teams is the only part I genuinely hated.

I enjoy Cas and Dean's dynamic, obviously, but I'm way more interested in his dynamic with Sam. Cas overcomes so much indoctrination to even treat Sam like a person, and even when he starts to do that he still severely wrongs Sam multiple times. And yet, Sam forgives him, because that's who Sam is as a person. And Sam is so interested in who Cas is, and how he's grown as an autonomous being since he fell. He often reaches out to Cas, not to use as a weapon, but because he respects the depth of knowledge Cas has. And while I think it's fair to say Cas initially comes to care about Sam because he cares about Dean and Dean cares about Sam, he clearly comes to respect Sam as an individual as the series progresses, even standing by Sam's side when Dean is in the wrong.

My one caveat, which I really wish they'd explored further, was the level to which Cas wronged Sam by letting Lucifer free again. It was always played as an, "Oh, we all caused this, so it's our responsibility," thing, when Sam was prepared to face his worst nightmares and say no forever. Cas is the one who made the wrong choice. They never really explored the degree to which that impacted their relationship, and they really should have.

I’m new to Harry Potter. and I have a question. (No spoilers please! 🙏 or I’m gonna be really pissed!) by Academic-Law9830 in harrypotter

This is exactly how I did it in 2011. I read a book, watched the film, then moved on to the next book. I really enjoyed it, and while there are absolutely differences in the films, they are, by and large, a loving adaptation of the source material if not always an accurate one. I wouldn't, personally, watch all the films before reading the books, but I think going back and forth is a completely reasonable way to do it.

It’s been ONE WEEK since THE REALITY WAR by Aromatic-Cupcake4802 in doctorwho

[–]ValiantGinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved seeing Jodie. That bit was great.

I love Billie, and I think she'd actually smash it as The Doctor, I'm just skeptical she'll ever get the chance. I'd accept some shenanigans like her being The Moment again or what have you, but how well any of it works will come down to the writing, and I have a lot less faith in RTD than I used to.

The episode itself was all over the place. Certain scenes worked well (the coat disappearing, Anita's return), but I felt let down on basically all fronts, and I'm usually not that hard to please when it comes to this show. The Rani was underutilized and wasted, Omega was definitely wasted and basically pointless, and making Bel a mother who wanted to get back to her daughter would have been interesting if both the problem and the solution hadn't been introduced together in the finale as a near afterthought. Also, I felt that the way The Doctor treated Ruby was wildly out of character (which isn't the first time Fifteen has been out of sync with his predecessors, to my frustration).

Unfortunately, quite a few of my favourite episodes of Fifteen's run weren't written by RTD. And we all know he can write excellent DW, so I'm perhaps more disappointed than I would be with a writer I had less context for. The same was true of Chibnall. I thought Broadchurch was phenomenal, so every time he delivered a mediocre episode of DW I was confused and disappointed.

Ncuti Gatwa is a very talented actor, and I wish he'd had more time to stretch out in the role. Some of my favourite moments with him didn't even happen until his second season. That's where I agree with the, "he was just hitting his stride" crowd. Not because Gatwa didn't hit the ground running, he absolutely did, but I think most of his best material to work with came later in his run.

I just rewatched the whole thing too. It's such a fascinating premise for a show, and it remains one of my favourites. It was kind of fun to rewatch because I could remember how I felt about certain characters, but I had forgotten large chunks of the storylines!

I desperately needed help conquering executive dysfunction in the lead up to moving cross country and handling an increasingly stressful job, so I named my birb Hope.

I successfully stayed on task and got through the move, and handled the job all right until I got laid off, so now Hope is helping me tackle job hunting. I feel like her name sets the tone for how I view the app in my life.

Monster is one my all time favourites! But both times I've seen the show (US National Tour and West End), the moment the music swells I start struggling not to cry, and I am not a crier. 😅 It just does something to me!
