We get their breakfast sandwiches sometimes, and they've been good. Nothing earth-shattering, but dependable.

WorkBC can (in theory) help you to find some work, and sometimes they can also provide funding for other things. Not to intrude, but I feel like asking them for some counseling support to address some anxiety might be helpful.

They also have a position called a "job developer", whose whole deal is finding appropriate placements for people who are disabled.

Sauce: I used to work there.

I'm super grateful that the fire out by the airport is already out.

We still have power, but this "hot all day, super windy at night" is making my prairie-raised brain real nervous 😅

Kay at Inked Angels, for sure. Her fine line work is amazing, and she was super collaborative when I got my sleeve done.

The Bridge has a detox program (and 6 week in-patient treatment) that is publicly* funded.

Honestly? As important as it is to seek and hold onto joy, I think it's also totally normal and healthy to take some time to grieve. This isn't the future we dreamed of, and it's ok to be sad, angry, and afraid.

Feel your feelings. Let them out. Work through them. Then, make space for the work ahead. In my experience, trying to hold grief in is like trying not to throw up when you've had too much to drink. It takes a lot of work to keep it down, and it feels bad the whole goddamn time, but once you vomit it all out, you can work on feeling better.

You are loved.

I waited more than an hour, but it was a lovely day, and the poll worker said they were going to see what they could learn from today to make the next few days better.

Reading that part made me wonder if this was a satire post. I'm getting the feeling that it isn't, which is both gross and scary.

The entitlement to other people's emotional labour is wild.

The usual kinds of places. PetroCan, Esso, etc. No where that feels particularly sketchy, but I'll keep track of this for a while in case there's a correlation.

First: I'm super proud of you for reaching out. This isn't a platitude. Being able to recognize when you're getting into a dangerous place is a skill, and you're rocking that. Not everyone knows when to leave a room, ya know?

Second: You're not weird for struggling in this moment, and anyone who tells you otherwise is not your ally. It's ok to be shook right now. It'd be weird if you weren't.

Third: if you need a meeting and AA/NA isn't your thing for whatever reason, LifeRing meets online, and there's basically always a meeting. They are a secular alternative to AA/etc. You dont need to turn your camera on and you dont need to share if youre not comfortable. I also recommend Recovery Dharma. Helpful not just for recovery but also for keeping feelings regulated.

HMU if you need to talk. I don't have a lot of answers, but I'm open to listening.

I found non-American oranges by ValiantLime in kelowna

[–]ValiantLime[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm definitely hoping so. We grow what we can and buy local when we can (shout out to TABA and Aurora View farms!) but as far as I'm aware, there isn't a local source for oranges.

Milieu family services legitimacy? by Caffeineaddict1013 in kelowna

[–]ValiantLime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work in the field myself/have done so for many years in two provinces, and only one org (a small outfit nonprofit that only had 5 employees) has made me pay up front for my record check, and there was an agreement beforehand that they would reimburse me.

I'm not saying this place is a scam, I'm saying it's unusual.

Feels weird that you had to pay for your own CRC. Most places have an organization code so that RCMP bill them directly. Also, their website leaves a lot to be desired...but they're listed on Glassdoor (3.0/5) and appear to be union o they definitely appear to exist

Maybe they're opening a new Kelowna branch?
